"I'm tired," Hillary cried over the phone, her voice so sharp it made Nicolette's stomach twist into a knot. "I don't know what he wants from me. He's just out to get me."
Nicolette's stomach sank at the pain in Hillary's voice. "I'm so sorry, Hills. Just take it slowly, okay?"
Hillary sighed. "I don't know what to do, Lettie. Help me."
The knot in Nicolette's stomach tightened. She glanced at Alaric, who arched a curious brow.
"Calm down, Hills," she said softly. "I'll get back to you. Just stay out of sight, please."
"Alright," Hillary replied with a sniff. "Thank you, Lettie."
When the call ended, Nicolette sat on the bed, her skin still damp.
Alaric walked over to her but didn't sit. "What's going on?"
She sighed, flipping her hair back. "Hillary's business is in trouble again."
"Again?" Alaric's brow lifted. "I thought it had issues before."
