Chapter 101 - Chapter 51: Deep into the Gastrea Zone

Having lost the [Relic of the Seven Stars], which could summon Zodiac-level Gastrea, the Tokyo Area was undoubtedly extremely anxious. After the Holy Maiden issued the commissioned mission, they gave Morin and the others less than three hours to prepare. Then, more than ten different types of helicopters took off from the reorganized Self-Defense Forces barracks in the Tokyo Area, carrying over two hundred Civil Security officers and their Initiator partners, directly flying towards the outside of the Monolith.

After flying beyond the Monolith's boundary line, the helicopter fleet, specially equipped with the Varanium defense module, began to gradually disperse. Apart from a few large Chinooks and Ospreys continuing straight ahead, the other dozen or so medium-sized transport helicopters mostly began to spread out, braving the already falling drizzle, directly dropping off the Civil Security officers and Initiators they carried along a circular route, and then directly leaving the extremely dangerous Gastrea-infested area!

...

Swish

Buzzing

In the sky, dark clouds gathered and it even began to rain. As the rain gradually intensified, it directly turned into a torrential downpour, even covering the roaring sounds of the many temporarily strengthened Varanium-equipped helicopters.

In the torrential rain, the primeval forest scenery below became hazy. The vast majority of Gastrea reduced their activity in this weather, which was a pretty good piece of news for Morin and other Civil Security officers. However, the bad news was that in this torrential rain environment, the difficulty of tracking those unknown armed personnel also increased exponentially, and even the concealment effect of the Gastrea was making things troublesome.

"It's raining?"

"How are we supposed to chase those people in this heavy rain?!"

"Damn weather..."

In the American Chinook helicopter where Morin, Kohina, Rentaro Satomi, and Enju Aihara were, the other Civil Security officers belonging to two other Civil Security companies sat in the transport cabin, looking at the torrential rain outside the window, their faces were very ugly and they even complained in low voices.

In this rain where visibility was less than a hundred meters, the normal reaction of ordinary people would be to hide at home or in the company. Instead, they were braving the heavy rain where they could easily step into a puddle at any moment, going to the dangerous Gastrea-infested area, and had to fight to the death with armed personnel whose numbers they didn't even know, all to seize a box whose usefulness they didn't even know? This felt like an extreme mission. If it weren't for the huge reward that would allow them to live comfortably for the rest of their lives, these Civil Security officers would definitely not want to get involved.

Even so, looking at the pouring rain outside and thinking about having to track enemies in such a harsh environment in a moment, the faces of several Civil Security officers were quite grim!

"Mr. Morin, are we going to split up and act later?"

Looking at the heavy rain outside, Rentaro Satomi, whose face wasn't looking too good, looked at Morin and asked in a low voice.

"There's no choice. Those guys from the Ministry of Defense gave us too broad of an area. We were even sent to an area more than a hundred kilometers away to intercept them. It's almost impossible to find those targets without splitting up!" Morin, who had been closing his eyes to rest and even letting Kohina and Enju Aihara play video games, opened his eyes, looked at Rentaro Satomi, and said with a shrug.

Obviously, the change in the role Morin replaced, Hiruko Kagetane, in the "Black Bullet" world he had entered had already begun to manifest. Not only was no one interrupting the Holy Maiden's speech earlier, but now the Civil Security officers had to go to the Gastrea-infested area in harsh weather to track down armed personnel whose whereabouts were unknown the Ministry of Defense said they had lost at least five helicopters, and the approximate area where the enemy was marked was not only dozens of kilometers away from the Tokyo Area, but a single? (hua - stroke, here meaning a line drawn on a map) encompassed an area of at least a thousand square kilometers as the approximate search range!

What disgusted Morin even more was that Tendou Kikunojo had definitely been secretly playing tricks. The Tendou Civil Security Corporation was sent to the farthest area to conduct a reverse search operation under the guise of being the "strongest."

In other words, they had to carry out the most difficult mission and bear the largest workload!

"This..."

Rentaro Satomi also hesitated a bit, feeling that something was wrong but couldn't quite put his finger on it.

"Attention everyone! We are about to reach our destination, prepare for high-altitude descent!"

Before Rentaro Satomi could voice his doubts, the pilot's voice came over the intercom in the cabin.

Hearing the pilot's shout, more than a dozen Civil Security officers and Initiator lolis, including Morin, began to prepare for landing. The remaining three Chinook helicopters and one Osprey further dispersed their formation, flying towards their respective assigned landing points!

...

"Big brother, the weather on a rainy day is too terrible!"

Watching the Chinook helicopter fly away quickly, Kohina, who had just changed into rainproof gear, looked at the rain curtain around her, stepped on the muddy ground, and muttered with a pout.

If the previous time she and Morin entered the Gastrea-infested area to hunt was considered operating in a primeval forest, now the rain had turned the ground into a muddy mess, giving the feeling of arriving in the rainy season of a tropical rainforest. Even with sufficient rainproof gear to protect them, the damp and misty feeling was really unpleasant, let alone tracking and fighting in such harsh natural conditions!

"Indeed! This weather is annoying, but our targets definitely won't have it easy either!"

Listening to Kohina's complaint, Morin, who had changed into a sci-fi-looking combat suit and wasn't affected much, nodded, pointed to the jungle and ruins where the rain had slightly lessened, and said, determining a direction, "According to the map they gave us, the other party's direction of movement is inland. If they don't want to seek death by relying on luck to try and survive in the Gastrea-infested area, they will likely head towards other gathering areas..."

The direction Morin pointed to was exactly the arc-shaped area where the transport helicopters had just dispersed!

Compared to the original plot where there was still a helicopter chasing that unlucky Gastrea, now the Tokyo Area was doing everything it could, using all the helicopters in its hands regardless of losses, trying to find the other party's?? (zongji - traces, whereabouts).

As for why the other party didn't use cars or helicopters to escape?

The former was completely impossible to drive in the wilderness after these ten-odd years, and the latter underestimated the tracking power of the Tokyo Area too much. Even the Tokyo Area had lost several armed helicopters and reconnaissance helicopters these past few days. Even if transport helicopters were equipped with Varanium modules, they only dared to guarantee flight at an altitude of over three hundred meters to have a greater chance of survival. If they were unlucky enough to encounter a large number of flying Gastrea, it would be like delivering food to their doorstep.

As the local power, the Tokyo Area didn't dare to guarantee the safety of exploring the environment outside the Monolith, and even had to rely on Civil Security officers as the main exploration method, while still bearing the pressure of a casualty rate of over 70% each time. What made the personnel after the plot change think they could successfully escape smoothly?

Relying on their feet to travel, and under the circumstances of being hunted down by the Tokyo Area, Morin also felt very pessimistic about the other party's situation. Even if the probability of finding the other party depended on luck, he didn't care.
