Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Decapitation Tactics Part 2

"Curse of Blindness"

"Curse of Pain"

Seeing Asuna suddenly leap up and step on the black bone dragon to charge upwards, the necromancer, whose AI was not low, immediately reacted. The curse spells he was about to cast were hurled directly toward Asuna and another player.

The player who had followed Asuna onto the black bone dragon was unable to dodge completely. The dense rays of curse magic formed an area-of-effect attack. Even though he leaped up and used his longsword to block, his vision went black, and a sharp pain coursed through his body, causing him to lose his footing and fall straight off the black bone dragon's back.

However, Asuna was untouched. Her cloaked figure almost drew an afterimage as she dodged the numerous control spells thrown by the necromancer, charging directly towards him.

"Haaah"

In the next moment, accompanied by Asuna's sharp cry, the azure rapier in her hand suddenly transformed into countless rays of light, engulfing the necromancer.

Tzzzz

The azure rapier, now transformed into streaks of light, slammed into the black energy shield that had abruptly appeared before the necromancer, producing dense, muffled sounds like tearing burlap.

"Audacious fool, to my..."

The necromancer, who was just about to deliver his dramatic line and had not even swung the bone staff radiating black light in his hand, saw the azure rapier in Asuna's hand suddenly shine brilliantly.

As if illuminated from within like a jade masterpiece, the rapier erupted with the brilliance of a sword skill activation, directly shattering the black energy shield that had already absorbed most of the impact. Immediately afterward, it engulfed the caught-off-guard necromancer entirely in a flood of sword light.

Star Light

Due to the flapping of a certain large butterfly's wings, Asuna's trump card appeared earlier than in the original story of SAO, and its name was no longer "Star Dust Tears" but had been changed to "Star Light."

Similarly, "Star Light" was no longer Asuna's consecutive five-hit combo from the SAO arc. Instead, Morin had suggested she aim for the eleven-hit combo of "Mother's Rosario" from the ALO arc, developed by "Absolute Sword" Yuuki, allowing Asuna to focus on that level of sword skill development.

Facts proved that during the SAO arc, Asuna's talent and effort were indeed extraordinary. Apart from dedicating herself to clearing floor bosses, Asuna spent most of her time wholeheartedly researching her own sword skill path based on Morin's reminder and her own fencing foundation. The successful creation of "Star Light" had elevated her sword skill level far beyond what it had been in the original story, granting her a unique, powerful technique.

Now, after unleashing "Star Light," the azure rapier, capable of executing ten consecutive strikes and crafted from a top-tier weapon dropped by the level 75 boss, displayed absolutely terrifying destructive power.

"Agh"

As the azure sword light dissipated, the necromancer howled in pain, its two health bars dropping rapidly to just one fifth of the last remaining bar before finally stabilizing.

However, in the next instant, the necromancer waved the bone staff in his hand. A black light surged between him and the black bone dragon. Not only did the black bone dragon attempt to throw Asuna off, but a fresh black shield reappeared around the necromancer, and his critically low health bar began recovering at a frightening speed.

"Do not even think about it"

Seeing the change after her full-power strike, Asuna bit her lip lightly, took out a holy crystal, crushed it, and rushed forward again without hesitation.

"Stay put, you old geezer"

At the same time, Morin, who was entangled with the black bone dragon, seized the moment. The shield in his hand slammed heavily into the black bone dragon's skull, and then the one-handed longsword radiating holy light pierced into the black bone dragon's lower jaw, striking through the gaps in its skull and into its brain.

Undoubtedly, Morin's strike dealt a devastating blow to the black bone dragon, instantly reducing half of its first health bar. The black bone dragon, ignoring its master's commands, let out a shrill wail and turned its full fury on Morin.

"Heh, too bad you are not strong enough"

Faced with the black bone dragon's frantic attacks and the ferocious bloodthirsty look that seemed to want to tear him apart, Morin remained exceptionally composed. His footwork was incredibly fast yet felt effortless and measured, dodging the dragon's bites while counterattacking whenever possible. Still, Morin did not see the dragon as the real threat. Casting a glance at the battlefield already swarmed by black skeleton warriors and then glancing back at Asuna, his eyes shone with anticipation.

"Now, Asuna, it is all up to your ultimate move"

Morin and the elite squad were doing their best to keep the black bone dragon at bay. The elite group, having formed a tight defensive formation with the help of a bus-sized wyvern as a support point, was locked in a fierce battle against the charging skeleton warriors. The decisive factor had become whether Asuna could quickly finish the necromancer boss.

"Rapid Sword"

Asuna charged like a lightning bolt toward the necromancer. In the next instant, her azure rapier transformed into a countless array of phantoms.

If the earlier "Star Light" had been a continuous hurricane, then "Rapid Sword" was an unadulterated storm of blades.

The few crowd control spells the necromancer hurled in desperation were completely ineffective. Asuna's unique sword skill "Rapid Sword," acquired after mastering her ten-hit "Star Light" combo, instantly broke through the energy shield created by the necromancer. The azure rapier, now gleaming with a golden-blue radiance, slashed five more times, completely reaping the last sliver of the necromancer's health.

"Aaaaaaaah"

Leaving behind a final, bitter scream of despair, the necromancer boss shattered into fragments and vanished into nothingness.

Had Asuna's ultimate move and attack speed not been so overwhelming, the necromancer could have served as a powerful support, forcing Morin and the others to hard-tank the black bone dragon and the other undead while he continuously cast curse and support spells, dominating the battlefield like a true mage.

But now, with the necromancer defeated, the entire undead army, which had just maintained a coordinated offensive, fell apart instantly.

"Awoo"

Bang

Crack

Almost the very instant the necromancer was slain, the black bone dragon, which had been desperately chasing Morin, crashed to the ground with a tremendous thud. It howled in agony, and its six long health bars immediately dropped by fifty percent.

It was not only the black bone dragon that faltered. The group of black skeleton warriors that had been pressuring the Star Flame elite squad fell into chaos. Apart from the handful of undead knights, who barely maintained their formation, the rest of the black skeleton warriors descended into complete disarray. Some continued fighting under the undead knights' orders, but others, having lost their commanding link, became a hindrance to their own side, turning the once orderly offensive into a mess.

Seeing the enemy falter, the players who had set up a defensive counterattack formation showed no hesitation. Sword skills erupted forth, cutting down large swaths of skeleton warriors without mercy.

"Asuna, take everyone and clean up the small fry. The rest of us will pin down the bone dragon"

Morin was overjoyed at the turn of events but did not let down his guard. He quickly barked out orders to Asuna, who had just leaped off the black bone dragon.

The necromancer was down, but the black bone dragon and the remaining undead were still very much alive.

Especially the black bone dragon, whose health had been cut drastically, was now completely berserk. Morin could feel its attack power growing wildly. He was forced to use a recovery crystal to heal, and even the other elite players could barely withstand a few blows from the enraged dragon before having to fall back and heal.

Given the circumstances, Morin knew it was wiser to let Asuna lead the team to clean up the battlefield first before regrouping to crush the boss together.

"Understood"

Asuna, landing lightly, quickly grasped the battlefield situation. She decisively raised her sword and charged into the fray.

In the next moment, a storm of azure sword light erupted among the skeleton warriors surrounding the elite squad.
