Kenta knew something was off the moment he sat down for dinner. The atmosphere was a little too warm, too friendly. His mother, Shizuka, was practically beaming at him as she filled his plate with extra servings. His older brother, Ikkyû, had a smug look on his face as if he had been waiting for this moment all day. And the Daimyô? Well, the man was watching him with the same gaze one would use when interrogating a prisoner.
Kenta decided to distract himself by thinking about the events that happened earlier in the day. He had ended the duel between himself and Sayaka abruptly.
He knew that if he had used his Boogie Woogie, he would have won the spar. At least, he got to test his taijutsu prowess against someone who was called a talented chunin. To be honest, he was disappointed with the taijutsu people used here.
They solely relied on a single style of martial arts. Even then they mostly used it to complement their other shinobi arts. They were essentially handicapping themselves. In his past life, he had learned all kinds of martial arts and then made them his own. And he did it before the age of 30. Even here, he would be considered a Prodigy among prodigies when it comes to purely Taijutsu.
'I would have to train Sayaka in Taijutsu. She is so predictable.'
That's right, Kenta had agreed to her being his maid and protector. After winning the match, he could have gotten rid of his personal watcher and getting his privacy back.
But after seeing Sayaka talented with Paper ninjutsu, he changed his mind. He had always thought that the paper jutsu that he had seen Konan used in the anime was a kekkei genkai or even a Kekkei tota.
But after asking Sayaka about it, He got to know that the paper jutsu is an advance application of Yin-Yang chakra. Yang chakra gives paper properties like hardness and sharpness. While Yin chakra helps control the paper and also form it into different shapes.
A shinobi that is very talented in Yin and yang both can manage to learn it but this was very rare as a shinobi is usually talented in one of these two or in none of them. Not many were talented in even one of them.
It can be verified by seeing the low number of iryô nin which use yang chakra and low number of genjutsu specialists which use yin chakra.
Anyways, Kenta realised that if she manages to hone her paper style jutsu to the level of Konan, She would become a terrifying S- Rank shinobi. Heck, he was pretty sure that she could surpass her with the resources and insights that he can provide her with.
'While Konan was pretty good with this style of fighting, there is so much more that can be done with paper style jutsus. I had promised myself that I would get allies of my own whom I can trust. Who better than a personal maid to have my back?' Kenta thought but before he could have continued with his thoughts, the Daimyô decided to speak.
"Is everything alright, Kenta?" the Daimyô asked casually, breaking the silence.
"Yeah, everything's great!" Kenta replied with an easy grin. 'Too great. Why do I feel like a rabbit surrounded by a family of foxes?'
"Is the dinner to your liking?" Shizuka asked, her eyes filled with maternal love. She usually makes dinner for the family and not even letting the servants help her.
"Of course, Mother! Your cooking is divine as always," Kenta said, buttering her up instantly. 'If I keep complimenting her, maybe she won't question me too much.'
"How is your training going?" Ikkyû cut in before their mother could gush about how adorable Kenta was.
"Oh, it's going great! I can already do a backflip and land on my feet most of the time," Kenta said, puffing up his chest.
"Most of the time? So you land on your face the other times?" Ikkyû smirked.
"That's just part of the learning process," Kenta shot back.
The questions kept coming. "Are you getting enough rest?" "Any new friends?" "What about injuries?" It was like an ambush, but Kenta skillfully answered each one, weaving his responses with just the right mix of truth and exaggeration.
Then, the real attack began.
"Kenta," the Daimyô said, setting his chopsticks down. "How exactly did the assassin die?"
Kenta didn't even blink. He had prepared for this. Taking a deep breath, he delivered his carefully crafted answer: "The assassin took one look at me… and realized he could not bring himself to kill someone as cute as I am. He understood that my existence was a gift to the world. The mere thought of ending my life filled him with such regret that he took his own life instead."
Silence.
Shizuka clasped her hands together, her eyes shimmering with admiration. "My little Kenta is so precious! It makes perfect sense!"
Ikkyû nearly choked on his rice. "Are you serious? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard."
The Daimyô pinched the bridge of his nose. "Kenta, do you really think we will believe that?"
"It's the truth!" Kenta said with an innocent expression.
Ikkyû groaned. "I swear, if stupidity was a jutsu, you'd be the next undisputed Hokage."
The Daimyô exhaled. "Fine. If he killed himself out of overwhelming admiration, then tell me, how did you end up on top of a wall when you don't even have advanced chakra control yet?"
Kenta's mind raced. Then he smirked. "An angel picked me up and placed me there. She had wings and everything! I think she was a celestial being sent to protect me."
Another silence.
Shizuka gasped. "Kenta, you must have been blessed!"
Ikkyû smacked his forehead. "Mother, please don't encourage him!"
The Daimyô was done. "Kenta, tell me the truth, or—"
"Or what?" Kenta asked cautiously.
"Or no desserts for you for the rest of the year."
Kenta froze.
His heart stopped.
His world shattered.
'No desserts? For a year?! That's worse than death!'
He tried to negotiate. "Surely we can work out a deal. Maybe half a year? Three months? A week? I'll settle for three days!"
"No negotiations," the Daimyô said firmly. "Now, tell the truth."
Kenta clenched his fists, a look of sheer horror on his face. 'This is it. This is the ultimate torture. If I don't come clean, my life is over. No more dango, no more mochi, no more sweet buns…' He shuddered.
"Fine!" he blurted out. "I have a kekkei genkai!"
The room went silent.
Ikkyû's chopsticks fell from his hands.
The Daimyô leaned forward. "What did you just say?"
Kenta swallowed. "I have a kekkei genkai."
