Chapter 8 - Divine Blessing Ceremony... I

Not to mention, players spend infinitely less time leveling up their skills and strength.

In a day, a player might gain more experience in a certain profession than any NPC out there.

This advantage has led to some NPCs treating players like a higher existence that needs to be revered.

The login effects do indeed appear as if they have descended or something.

But this only held until they fully understood where players come from.

These thoughts swirled in Xavier's mind for a while till he arrived home.

He had lived with Bernard for a while under his tutelage, but this place had already become his home.

Infinite retries aside, the family took good care of him and he truly felt welcome here.

As for his parents, well, he wouldn't be a qualified isekai if he were not an orphan now, would he?

Anyway, at this point, his memories of when his parents were still around were so vague now that he could hardly remember their faces.

Forget names, not many kids know their parents' names at age five.

"Hey, Xaveir. What are you doing dazed? Mom prepared your favorites for dinner. Man am I jealous. It's like you're the only one going to participate in the ceremony. Mom didn't even prepare me a new dress."

Hearing Melissa's call, Xavier snapped back to reality and made his way into the house.

If he delayed any longer, who knows what might come out of Melissa's mouth.

"Yeah, yeah. I bet master did."

"Tsk, you're no fun. Speaking of, we'll be adults after the ceremony. How about I visit your room at night? I bet you've got needs and needs and needs…"

"Ms. Elizabeth! Melissa is talking dirty again."

"…"

Xavier awakened early in the morning to cleanse himself the next day.

It was a big day for quite a number of teenagers around the world and was especially so for him.

The ceremony for divine blessings is something that is quite important even for him and he could not afford messing up just cause he stinks.

Every profession in his collection kind of needs a divine blessing for a break through to the next level.

Still, there were some extreme cases like Melissa who spent the whole night doing some rituals of some kind.

Not that the ceremony in itself required all these preparations, but the gods can sometimes be petty.

It'd be tragic if you did not receive a divine blessing over factors you can control.

Even then, Xavier was not very worried.

There was no way he would go without divine blessings from a couple of gods. Ophelia would blow her top otherwise.

Speaking of, the very first god to give him at the start was the goddess of spacetime, who is Ophelia's follower.

You can imagine how much she had gone through because she was practically begging Xavier to take the blessings.

What was even more extreme is that the blessing he got was her.

A goddess as a… servant? Let's not call her a slave. It's kinda demeaning.

And even then, Ophelia would give her crap every now and then. It was unbearable to watch.

Xavier tried to stop it a couple of times only to be smothered to death.

Just thinking about it gave him chills.

"I'd better get ready."

Xavier went on to wear a set of rough cotton robes he had washed a million times.

By the time the sun was fully out, he had already had his breakfast and was ready to go out.

"Hey, hurry up! You don't want to be late."

"Yeah, yeah. Careful not to soil your dress."

Xavier casually dismissed Melissa's concerns.

What time is it? It'd be good if they found the church open at this time.

Xavier still got ready and headed out with Melissa after saying his greetings.

The town was more lively than yesterday and you could see groups of teenagers in clean robes making their way to the church.

The festive air could not hide the tension in the air, but that did not prevent events from their eventuality.

Who wouldn't be nervous on such an occasion? Even the crude Melissa was not talking anymore.

It did not take long to walk to the rather small wooden church.

The crowd outside made the place look even smaller, but this was enough for a small place like Blackrock Village.

Hell, the place was usually deserted on normal days.

Xavier looked at the pious expressions on everyone's faces and felt like laughing for a moment.

These guys never cared for gods but now you'd think that they're the most devout believers.

"Hey, Melissa. I bet you'd get quite the blessing if you acted normally than the way you look now. If I were god, I'd be pretty sick of everyone looking like they got a whole cathedral up their holes."

Melissa: "…"

Everyone: "…"

Gods: "…"

'Well, fools are everywhere. Nothing to look at here.'

The looks on everyone's faces said as much.

Melissa distanced himself from Xavier and pretended not to know him.

But… her nerves did calm down.

And Xavier did have a point.

There was no point of getting so lowly that she lost herself just for a mere blessing.

Her chances of getting one were not that high to begin with.

It'd be a miracle if there was even one person in the village with a divine blessing.

Gods are pretty choosy.

To get a divine blessing, talent is a must if you don't consider social standing.

Unless you are some sort of royal noble, you've gotta have some intense abilities.

There was no way she would get one if even Maria failed with all her talent.

Thinking of this, her posture instantly became more casual.

She would not let loose as she usually does, but she was not so devout as she was at the beginning.

Xavier saw her change but did not say anything.

Indeed, getting a blessing is too difficult for normal village NPCs after all, this is a starter novice village.

Unless something against fate happens, it is impossible for normal people to receive a divine blessing.

It is a good thing he is here.
