The next morning rose slowly, warm light seeping through the fabric of the tent. Ryusoke lay on his back, one arm tucked beneath his head, the other resting lightly on Nori's waist. The scent of sandalwood still clung to the bedding, and the sound of soldiers moving in the distance was muffled—today, there was no urgency. Just quiet.
Nori traced lazy circles on Ryusoke's chest, his head resting there. "You're awfully calm this morning," he murmured. "No rushing to bark orders?"
Ryusoke chuckled, the sound rumbling deep in his chest. "Let them rest. Let me rest. For once, I don't have to lead a charge before sunrise."
A comfortable silence stretched between them until Ryusoke spoke again. "You know… after we return to the capital, I think I might finally retire."
Nori looked up. "Retire?"
He nodded, brushing Nori's hair behind his ear. "I've fought too many wars. Killed too many men. I think it's time I live the rest of my days in peace—with you. Maybe even… start a family."
