Cherreads

Chapter 2 - CHAPTER TWO: ACCIDENT

The day had passed quietly since my conversation with the Marquess yesterday, and I'm dying of boredom. Who said it's fun to be reincarnated? No social media, no phones, no online games. Ohhh god! All I do is sleep, read, and think, and sleep and read and think, and do it all over again! I think I'm going to lose my mind.

"My lady, why don't you try visiting the town? I'm sure it would help you freshen up your mind," Ana suggested.

"That's right, Ana! You're a genius!" I jolted, which made her jump slightly out of shock.

I sat up straight from the couch where I was leisurely lying down earlier. It wasn't a bad idea! Ever since I woke up in this world, I was so busy panicking and running around the March [a term used to refer to the land belonging to a Marquess] trying to find any clue where am I.

'Why didn't I think of going out, right? I might find a clue outside! HAH!'

I scolded myself for not thinking clearly these past few days. This is one of those times where you can prove that "Panicking will not help you in times of danger, so remain calm!" Because... Your head will be clouded, and you might not think clearly. Like what happened to me! This world doesn't revolve on the March only; the world outside is big. And I need to find a clue! Right!

'I'm so genius...hehehe.'

[3rd person's POV]

Once again Ana is witnessing her ladyship doing peculiar things and weird faces.

'My lady is starting to lose it really. She might have hit her head! I guess I need to report this to the Marchioness.'

"Ana, please prepare the carriage! I'm heading to the town. It's a beautiful day, isn't it?" her lady smiled mischievously. Her ruby eyes beamed under the sunlight passing through the window of her room.

'Ahh! At times like this, her ladyship is so blinding,' Anna sighed.

"Yes, my lady."

Ana leaved the room and immediately notified the butler of her Ladyship's plan, while Seraphina was preparing for her departure.

She wore an elegant-looking green dress and let her hair fall behind her back just as it is. She made sure to bring a coat with her in case she might need to disguise herself. She also brought gold coins so she could buy things that she might need. And when she got everything she needed, they departed and went to town.

[Seraphina's POV]

The ride to town was a bit longer than I expected. Usually a march is located on the border of the Empire or a country. This is because the March will serve as the protector of the Empire against foreign invaders. Additionally, the estate of the lord is located at the center of its land, but in this case, it wasn't. The march is located at the very end of the border, making it the literal protector of the Empire against the neighboring kingdom.

I sighed. I'm still not sure what I am going to do. I want to go back home. I miss my family. I miss the polluted air of the modern world. I miss going to school. I miss watching anime and reading my favorite manwhas. I miss everything. This world, this body, all of the luxury I have now can't compensate for the longing and sadness I'm feeling.

I keep asking over and over again. Why me? Why not others? Back on Earth, I don't have any problems. I'm not depressed! I'm not struggling in life, nor am I unhappy. I have a lot of friends; I have a loving family. I'm not struggling in my college life; in fact, I'm almost graduating! I have the greenest flag of a boyfriend. I have a simple yet happy life! Why me? I didn't ask to be here! Why not just reincarnate or transmigrate those who are suffering on Earth so they can have a happy life here? Or those who want it?

I'm not even sure why I'm here and how it happened! For the past few days, I've been trying to remember, but my memories seem foggy. I can't remember how I ended up here. Did I get the classic truck-kun accident? Did I catch a fatal disease and die? I don't know! I'm lost! And it makes me suspicious. I feel like something's wrong, but I don't know what.

I almost fell off my seat after the carriage suddenly halted. It was so abrupt, and considering that we were still in the middle of the forest, I could almost tell what was happening outside. There might be bandits trying to rob merchants on their way to the town. And I'm so lucky to be here. Please insert sarcasm here.

"My lady, are you okay?"

Ana, who was sitting across from me, immediately attended to my side, trying to assist me to sit properly. Though I can do it alone, I know it's her job, so I let her be.

"Protect the lady!" I heard one of the knights accompanying me yell.

"Must be the rumored bandits hiding in this forest recently. The Marquess had already taken many bandits trying to camp here, but new ones always appear." Ana filled me in about the recent event, and I just nodded.

But deep inside me, my heart is beating fast and my mind's panicking.

The next second, all I could hear was the knights and the bandits yelling and the sound of their swords clashing. We stayed still and kept silent inside the carriage. Ana was shaking beside me, and though I look calm outside, my soul feels like leaving my body. I am panicking violently on the inside.

Is this the end of my role here? Am I just a side character for the story's development? What will happen to me? Will I be able to go back now? Or will my soul completely disappear from both worlds? The thought of it gave me more fear creeping on my heart. I unknowingly clutched Ana's hand that was holding me tightly. Even though we're both scared, we both nodded at each other, trying to comfort ourselves.

After a few minutes, there was a long silence outside. We don't hear anyone talking anymore, nor a sword clashing.

"I guess it's over now." I said

I let go of Ana's hand and tried to open the carriage to go outside, but Ana stopped me before I could even reach the door.

"Let me go check outside first, my lady; please wait here. We don't know if it's safe for you to go outside already. I'll come back here once I know the situation outside, okay?" Ana suggested. She immediately went outside before I could even give my permission.

'HAH! She's so bold to be acting like that in front of her lady. I don't know if I'm her master or if she is my master.' I chuckled at the thought.

Somehow it eased the tension I'm feeling inside.

"AHHHH!!!"

I was frightened to hear a sudden scream outside. That voice... I know it was Ana. What happened? Is she okay? I don't know if I should go outside and check what is happening, or should I just ran immediately without looking back as soon as I opened the door, or should I just stay here and wait what will happen?

"Where's the lady?"

I heard someone talking, and I think they're heading to this carriage. My hands are shaking, and my knees are too weak to move. This is the very first time in my whole life that I will be experiencing this. I don't know what to do.

I can hear their footsteps slowly approaching at the same time as my heart was beating really fast.

'What should I do? Think! Think!'

The footsteps stop in front of the carriage, and now whoever is on the other side of the door is trying to open the carriage. My heart feels like exploding, and I already came up with the final decision of what I'm about to do. Once they opened this door, I'm going to charge at them fast and hard, and I'll make a run for it.

We're already far from the march and I don't know if we're already close at the town, but whichever is it, I need to run as fast as I can and ask for help if I run into somebody. And I'm sure I will.

As soon as the door opened, I pushed them real hard so that we both fell. I think I hurt my elbow, but I don't have the luxury of delaying any seconds anymore. I immediately got up enduring the pain I'm feeling right now, and started to run like crazy in the middle of the forest.

"Don't let her escape! Chase after her!"
