Chapter 9 - IX. An Odd Tool

'A scythe?..' Calea thought, puzzled by the question.

What is a Scythe to her? she doesn't really have an answer for that, except for the fact that it's a tool used for farming and cutting crops, there was no other definition that she could think of, Calea knows that a scythe could definitely be used as a weapon, however the idea of using it as a primary weapon similar with a sword is what makes it strange.

There's multiple cases and news about a farmer killing monsters or even a criminal using their scythes, but that was because there is not much weapon option for a farmer, they had to protect their fields, and the only sharp or deadly objects that they could use was a scythe, or perhaps a sickle.

'He must've expected someone to say it was a farming tool, what he wants from us is an answer that is out of the ordinary, something that can please him..' Calea thought as she looked at Scythe right in his grim eyes.

While she was still searching for an answer, one of the people in her group suddenly raised his hand.

'Huh?..'

It was Carsel that just raised his hand, he seems to have found an answer, atleast he thought so.

"Ho? You want to say something?" Scythe said, he gestured his hand to allow Carsel to speak.

Carsel nodded after receiving the approval and said..

"I'll answer your question, for me, a scythe is a tool to help at farming and harvesting crops—

Carsel abruptly stopped his sentence, Scythe who saw this thought that he must be done with his answer, his reaction to Carsel's opinion was somewhat disappointing, as his face smile began to vaguely fade away behind his scarf.

"Is that so– It's unfortunate—

"But.." Carsel unexpectedly cuts Scythe off mid-sentence. "A scythe is undoubtedly a deadly weapon too, if used right, it can most definitely be used to kill someone, even those who are also holding a weapon."

Seeing that Carsel didn't say anything else after that last word, Scythe assumed that his answer is over, he approached Carsel from his position and stood pretty close to him.

'That was a good answer– However.. Is it enough? I don't think Scythe is someone that will accept an answer like that..' Calea thought, her heart rate slowly accelerating with each step Scythe was taking.

"Mghh.. Did my answer satisfies you?" Carsel asked, looking at Scythe eyes to eyes despite the height difference.

Scythe then placed his hand on Carsel's shoulder, it was an odd thing for them, there's really no definite answer to whether he likes Carsel's answer or not, however that doubt soon vanished after Carsel saw Scythe pulling down his scarf and put on a pretty satisfied smile.

When Carsel noticed Scythe's smile, he thought that he's safe now and that his answer is something that Scythe wanted.

"Good work" Scythe said. "That answer was... AVERAGE AS FUCK!!!"

THWACK!

Like a double faced algojo, Scythe quickly swapped his attitude and punched Carsel in his stomach, it was such a strong punch that Carsel got sent flying backwards.

"WHAT!?" Everyone around was shocked and terrified.

'UGH!! SO HE'S NOT SATISFIED AT ALL!!!' Calea curses in her mind, she had already expected Scythe to be brutal, but not to this extent.

BOOM!

Carsel crashed into one of the many trees in the forest, his impact with the tree made the tree trunk split in half, luckily the force was not enough to pierce the tree, and Carsel finally dropped to the ground followed by the falling tree behind him.

"CARSEL!" Deon shouted, he was about to run towards Carsel to help him, but he suddenly stopped before he could even take the first step, his collar began to emit a faint glow, and he noticed it immediately because of the fizzling sound.

"Stop." Scythe threatened, his index finger pointing at Deon's collar, he's obviously about to channel some of his mana to the collar, and the truth is, he already did, however he just channeled enough mana for the collar to glow, and not explode.

Deon knew that if he moved even just a fraction of an inches now, his head would be gone in an instant, his body froze completely, cold sweat began to appear in his forehead, he realized that– Being selfless is stupid in here.

"Yes, sir.." Deon said anxiously to Scythe.

After much thought, Scythe decided to spare Deon and let go of his mana connection with the collar.

"If you try to help one of your so called 'friends' one more time, it'll cost you your head." Scythe said, his deep voice coming back and now is even more frightening. "Same goes for all of you here, as long as the sun haven't gone down yet, you're all enemies, not friends, remember rule three— Just think for your own survival, learn how to survive alone, after all.. You're all rivals here, right?"

Calea gulped some of her saliva down her throat, Scythe's words was terrfying, it felt like each of his words was piercing all across her body, she wants to revolt, to prove that he's wrong, but she ultimately can't.

"Urgh.. Keukk.." Carsel grunted as he tries to move his hand, pushing him up so that he could stand on his feet.

But in the middle of that, Carsel felt a sudden excruciating pain inside of his stomach, before long, Carsel began to vomit blood, and it wasn't just any amount, it was quite a lot, and that shows just how strong Scythe's punch was earlier.

"Blargh!.. S- Shit.." He said as he saw the viscous blood on his palm. "Heh, so my answer was wrong— Fuck.."

Despite the injury, Carsel didn't give up, his perseverance was something that shouldn't be taken lightly, even when his face looked pale and his clothes dirty, he kept smiling like it didn't matter, he managed to stand up and walked back to where the rest of the group was, all while holding the intense pain to himself.

"Hoh? This guy is not bad." Scythe said, interested in Carsel's determination. "Carsel, was it? Welcome back to hell."

"Fuck you, shitty instructor.. I'll kill you, i will definitely kill you.." Carsel responded, his fiery eyes looked stoned, like he just got possessed by something.

"Heh.." Scythe's opinion about Carsel slowly changed, he smiled once again and gave Carsel a smirk. "That's what you should aim for."

'Survive?..' Calea thought. 'Survival— That's right.. I need to survive on my own, i will survive and meet with father and mother again.. I must adapt, no matter what happened to me, as long as my consciousness still here—

Another crack appeared inside of Calea's heart, her subconsciousness was undergoing an unprecedented changes, her crimson eyes widened and she started to think about caring only for herself.

'Am i... Smiling? What— Is happening to me..'
