✨✨Dear Readers,✨
First of all—if you made it this far, I see you! You just devoured this chapter like a spicy roadside golgappa, and I love that for you!
As the wedding rituals came to an end, the atmosphere was still thick with tension. The priest announced the completion of the marriage, but the chaos in the hall had not settled.
Naina's POV
I sat there, my hands resting lifelessly in my lap, the weight of my fate pressing down on my chest. The fire crackled before me, the warmth of the sacred flames doing nothing to thaw the ice that had settled inside me.
This wasn't how I had imagined my wedding. Not with g.*ns pointed at my so-called family. Not with my so-called family trying to sell me off like property. Not with my so-called husband barging in like a storm, turning my world upside down.
I should have been shocked. I should have been scared. I should have reacted. But I couldn't.
Nothing mattered anymore.
My mother, the woman who was supposed to shield me from monsters, had handed me over to one instead. My brother, my own blood, had turned into my worst nightmare. And my bhabhi? She had always been a snake, but today, she had shown just how poisonous she could be.
And then there was him—Devanash Rajpurohit.
The man who had forced me into this marriage. The man who had walked into this hall, guns blazing, declaring that I was his. The man who was now tying a mangalsutra around my neck with the gentleness of someone handling something precious, even when I felt anything but.
I didn't flinch. I didn't react. I didn't even blink.
Because I had stopped feeling a long time ago.
"Samdhan ji, aaram se chillaiye na… Pyaari lagenge aap!"
"Relax, dear samdhan, you'll look prettier that way!"
Partap's voice rang in the air, lighthearted but mocking. My mother's furious glare did nothing to shake the confidence of the Rajpurohit men. They had already won.
"Aur hamari beti ko yaha aane ki zaroorat nahi padegi."
"And our daughter won't need to step foot here ever again."
Daughter. A word that felt so foreign now.
The Rajpurohits had claimed me as theirs.
But had I ever truly belonged to anyone?
Naina mother come infornt holding her hand
Naina's so-called family was fuming, their faces red with rage as if they were the ones wronged. Even after everything, they still found a way to blame me.
I sat still, my hands clutching the edge of my bridal dupatta as their voices rang in my ears.
"Besharam ladki! Yeh sab isne pehle se hi soch rakha tha!"
(Shameless girl! She had planned all this beforehand!)
"Mujhe pehle hi samajh jaana chahiye tha ki yeh hamesha se apni marzi chalane wali thi!"
(I should have known earlier that she would always do whatever she wanted!)
I lifted my gaze slowly, my expression blank. Meri marzi?
If I ever had a choice, would I have chosen this life?
Would I have chosen a mother who only saw me as a burden?
A brother who found joy in my suffering?
A family that only cared about what I could give them?
I should have laughed. Meri marzi? When had my will ever mattered?
My mother's sharp voice cut through my thoughts.
"Isne hamari naak katwa di! Yeh humari beti kabhi thi hi nahi!"
(She has ruined our reputation! She was never our daughter!)
Something inside me cracked. Maybe it was the last thread of hope that, despite everything, some part of them had once loved me.
But no.
I wasn't their daughter.
I never had been.
Suddenly, a deep voice broke through the heated argument.
"Bas."
(Enough.)
Devanash.
He stepped forward, his presence alone silencing the entire hall. His gaze, sharp and unreadable, was fixed on my so-called family.
"Ab yeh aapki beti nahi hai, samjhe?"
(She is no longer your daughter, understood?)
His voice was calm, but the warning was loud and clear.
"Aur haan, jo izzat aap logon ki pehle se nahi thi, uska rona bandh kar dijiye."
(And yes, stop crying over respect you never had in the first place.)
Vedant chuckled beside him.
"Kya baat hai, Bhai! Ek dum zabardast jawaab!"
(Wow, Bhai! What a perfect reply!)
Kunal smirked.
"Aree, ek aur dialogue maar dete toh maza aa jaata!"
(Ahh, if only you had added one more dialogue, it would have been even better!)
I watched as my so-called family fumed, their anger useless now. The Rajpurohits had taken me away from them, just like that.
And for the first time, I didn't feel like a prisoner.
For the first time, I felt… free.
