Anna was startled to see her sitting at the secretary's desk. She had always known Lorie as just a clerk in this small company. How had she suddenly become the CEO's secretary?
On the other end, Lorie's brows knit together, and her lips curled in frustration as she shot up from her chair. With sharp, clipped steps, she strode toward Anne, arms crossed tightly over her chest.
"What are you doing here?" Lorie snapped. "This is a restricted area. You're not allowed to be here."
Anne tilted her chin as she met Lorie's glare without hesitation. "I have business here," she replied coolly.
Lorie scoffed, her eyes scanning Anne with poorly veiled disdain. "Business?" she sneered. "A lot of women like you often come here to covet the CEO. But the boss has no time to entertain such kind of women. Don't humiliate yourself. Go away."
