Ace scoffed, shaking his head as he returned his attention to the file in front of him.
Zara swallowed and finally glanced down at the phone screen.
"Nana?" she mumbled in disbelief.
She had already told them she wouldn't be coming home and didn't want to be disturbed—so why now?
Could it be an emergency?
Just as the call was about to end, she hurriedly answered, her breath hitching.
"Nana, are the kids okay?" she asked quickly before Nana could say a word.
"Not completely…"
"Mommy, it's stormy over here. We can't sleep," the kids' voices echoed in the background, cutting Nana off.
Zara finally exhaled. It wasn't something she couldn't manage.
"It's just a little August rain. Let Nana cover you with a big blanket, and you'll be fine."
"No. We want you," they chorused as if rehearsed.
Zara sighed. "Give the phone to Nana."
"I can hear you. It's on speaker," Nana called out.
"Did you lock all the doors and windows in their room?"
