Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Hunters in the Mist

The trio moved deeper into the jungle, their steps cautious, their senses heightened. The mist clung to their bodies, dampening their skin and muffling their footsteps. Every rustle of leaves, every snap of a twig made their hearts quicken. The growls continued, circling them, as though whatever creatures lurked within the fog were herding them. The jungle felt alive, as if it watched their every move, ready to consume them if they faltered.

Luffy kept his fists clenched, his eyes darting from shadow to shadow. His excitement was still there, but his instincts screamed danger. Shade slithered beside him, a faint wisp in the mist, its form blending into the shadows like a silent assassin, ready to strike at his command. The presence of his shadow soldier brought him comfort, but it also reminded him that this was no ordinary exploration—it was a hunt, and they were the prey.

Zoro walked slightly ahead, his sword glinting faintly in the low light. His muscles were taut, his grip firm. He was used to being outnumbered. The thought made him smirk. His senses sharpened with each step, the familiar tension before a battle igniting the warrior within him. He welcomed the challenge, knowing that his blades would soon taste blood.

Nami stuck close to Luffy, her staff held tightly. Her eyes flicked around, mapping their surroundings even through the fog. She noted the uneven ground, the twisted roots—potential hazards or advantages in a fight. Every fiber of her being told her this was dangerous, but her trust in her crewmates anchored her resolve. She knew that as long as they stayed together, they could face whatever lurked ahead.

A sudden snap of branches made them all freeze. Their breaths caught in their throats. From the mist burst a creature—a massive, feline-like beast with dark, matted fur and glowing yellow eyes. Its fangs were bared, saliva dripping onto the ground, and its muscular body coiled like a spring. Clawed limbs tensed, ready to pounce.

Before it could attack, Luffy shot forward with a burst of speed, his fist enveloped in shadow energy. He struck the beast square in the jaw, sending it crashing into the underbrush with a yelp. The force of the impact cracked branches and shook the ground.

More eyes appeared in the fog—three, four, maybe more. The growls grew louder, the predators emboldened by their pack. Their eyes burned like embers in the mist, surrounding the crew from all sides.

Zoro grinned, stepping into a defensive stance, his blade glinting ominously. "Looks like we're surrounded," he said with calm determination.

Luffy cracked his knuckles, the shadows around his fists pulsing with power. "Good. I was hoping for a warm-up," he replied, his grin widening, his heart racing with anticipation.

Nami exhaled, focusing her breathing. Her staff trembled slightly in her hands before she steadied herself. "Just don't let them separate us," she reminded them, her voice tense but resolute.

The beasts lunged.

Luffy moved like a whirlwind. His fists became a blur of shadow and speed, each punch landing with crushing force. Shade darted from the mist like a spectral blade, slashing at the attackers with ruthless precision. Each strike from Luffy and his shadow soldier sent the beasts tumbling backward, their roars turning to pained cries.

Zoro danced between attackers, his swords a deadly blur. His movements were fluid and deliberate, each slash cutting cleanly through fur and flesh. He parried a set of claws with one blade while slicing across the beast's chest with another. His breathing was steady, his eyes sharp—this was his element.

Nami used her agility, weaving between the creatures and using her staff to jab at their legs and ribs. She struck pressure points with calculated precision, exploiting their weaknesses. When a beast snapped at her, she dodged swiftly and brought her staff down on its snout, making it yelp and retreat.

The fog became a battlefield. Growls turned to pained cries. Blood stained the damp earth, mixing with the mist. The beasts, realizing they had underestimated their prey, began to falter. Some turned to flee, while others lay motionless, their bodies defeated.

When the last beast fell, the crew stood panting but victorious. The jungle was silent once more, save for their breaths. Their eyes met, each acknowledging the strength of the others.

Luffy wiped his brow with the back of his hand, his grin returning, wider than ever. "That was fun!" he declared, his exhilaration breaking the tense atmosphere.

Zoro sheathed his sword with a satisfied smirk. "We need to keep moving. This island is hiding more than just wild animals," he said, his warrior instincts sensing deeper dangers ahead.

Nami nodded, her heart still racing but her confidence restored. "Let's go. Together," she said firmly.

Side by side, they pressed forward—deeper into the unknown heart of the Shrouded Island. Each step carried the weight of their bond, their resolve unyielding, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
