Layleen
I don't know if I'm still breathing, or if everything that's happening to me right now is real—or if it's some kind of never-ending, horrible dream that I can't seem to wake from.
Sheryl is pregnant. How can she be pregnant?!
I don't even realize I'm staring, my eyes wide open in shock, but Sheryl seems to know exactly what I'm thinking—or rather, what I'm trying not to think about.
"It's true," she says, her voice grim, the words heavy in the air between us. "It can only be his child. I haven't slept with anyone else in the last three months. I missed my period last month, but I brushed it off as something minor. It happens to me sometimes, but… right before we were supposed to move to Alpha Arcanis's pack house, I took a test. And it was positive."
I blink rapidly, my mind racing to process the words. I'm struggling to grasp the reality of the situation, still unsure if this is some kind of nightmare I'll wake up from any second.
