Primrose blinked, surprised by how serious his voice sounded.
Edmund slowly lowered his eyes, almost as if he was too scared to see her reaction. "I might not always know the right words. I might not fully understand everything that makes you sad … but even if the whole world turns its back on you, I won't."
He tightened his hold on her hands, speaking with determination. "I will protect you. I will stay with you through everything. Not just because you are my wife, or my queen … but because you are you."
[Even if she ends up hating me, even if she tries to run away from me again… I will make sure no one can ever hurt her,] Edmund thought silently.
To some people, Edmund's words might sound too much, like empty promises men often say to win a woman's heart.
Honestly, Primrose would have thought the same if she heard someone else say those words to another woman.
But for some reason, her heart told her that Edmund wasn't lying.
