Chapter 10 - Elara

After preparing for the occasion, I glanced at my reflection in the mirror. The soft glow of my makeup showcased my features beautifully. The maids flitted around me, showering me with praises that felt almost overwhelming.

"Can I please be alone?" I asked, my voice slightly trembling.

"Yes, ma'am," they replied, their expressions a mix of concern and understanding as they shuffled away.

Once the door clicked shut, a wave of emotion threatened to break through my composed façade."I can do this," I whispered, my voice barely rising above the soft rustle of leaves outside. The words felt like a fragile promise I was making to myself. I paused, taking a deep breath as I considered my place in this moment—Jared wasn't a monster; he was just a man, and perhaps I could find common ground with him. With every ounce of determination I could muster, I repeated, "I can really do this," my voice trembling as doubt crept in.

Suddenly, a gentle knock echoed through the quiet room. "Ma, they're calling for you outside," a familiar voice called out, breaking the stillness and pulling me back to the present.I glanced at my reflection one last time, taking in the way my golden hair was elegantly tied back, framing my face perfectly. With a deep breath, I rose and opened the door, feeling a rush of anticipation as I climbed the stairs. Every gaze in the room turned towards me, their eyes filled with curiosity and admiration. A warm smile spread across my face as my dad walked beside me, offering his steady support.

As we reached the gathering, a wave of affection washed over me; guests enveloped me in hugs, showering me with compliments that made me feel both elated and slightly overwhelmed. Their faces blurred into kindness, but I focused on projecting joy, determined to embody the happiest woman in the room. I searched the crowd for familiar faces, hoping to catch a glimpse of Damon or Jared, yet they remained futile. Instead, I exchanged fleeting smiles with my two other brothers, their presence a comforting anchor amid the sea of friendly strangers."Everyone, may I have your attention, please?"
