She locked the door after he left. Even if anyone came knocking, she made up her mind that she wouldn't respond. Throughout the night, Felix was on her mind. She drifted to sleep while thinking of him.
Deeply sleeping with her eyes closed, she had a dream. It was Felix, he was there. The both of them were standing together in an unfamiliar environment.
"Finally, I've reunited with you, I'll never let you go"
She woke up, the dream she had, still lingered fresh in her memory. Blinking her eyes, she stretched her arms in the air and let out a wide yawn.
Needlessly, she consulted her wall clock. The metallic artifact ticked in response, one hand towards six and the longer hand at nine, reading a 6:45 am.
"Psst…Psst…" she turned as she heard a familiar voice calling out to her.
"What are you doing here?" She queried, as she moved closer to the window, raising the latch.
"Miss me?" He asked, grinning from ear to ear. His eyes traveled down her body and landed on her chest. She was still wearing her night dress and a bit of her cleavage was exposed. Noticing his eye movement, she quickly pulled the cloth a bit upwards, covering her exposed flesh.
"Why are you here so early in the morning?"
Truth be told, she was actually excited to see the same person that she was thinking about at her window. It sounded like a fairytale, where a chivalrous knight came knocking at the window of his princess. But she was no princess.
"I came to see you of course." He responded, smiling at her.
"Can I come in?"
"Umm, Yeah, sure" she replied, lifting the window a little bit to contain him. He wriggled through the window a bit, before finally getting into the room.
"I thought we could spend some time together today, possibly get to know you better."
The excitement on her face died down a bit, leaving a forlorn expression on her face.
"What is it?" He asked as he noticed her countenance change.
"I went to jail and spent two years there, I was charged with murder and as soon as I was released, everyone began avoiding me, even my best friend as well," "I am afraid that you may do the same if you get to know me better."
Those were the exact words she wished she could tell him, but the statement only remained a mere imagination in her head.
She kept mute, maintaining the deserted expression on her face.
"I can leave if you are not okay with me being here" he said, widening his eyes, while looking at her with emotion, before turning to leave.
"No, you can stay." She objected, holding his hand back from leaving.
"Smile, then."
"What?"
"If you want me to stay, you'll have to cheer up."
She responded with a faint smile slowly creeping to her face.
"That's the spirit" he said, cheering her.
He came closer to her, looking at her with doting eyes. "Don't let anything take your joy, you may be the pack's servant, but you are still a special one at that."
His voice was soothing and the words he spoke did nothing than to plaster a broad smile on her face.
She barely knew him except that his name was Felix. She was quite sure that she hadn't seen him in the mystic furs pack before.
"I am from a different pack, the furry Canines pack," he said, as if sensing the question which was on her mind.
"At least, that was the pack that took me in ever since I lost my parents at birth" he said, his voice dropping slowly.
"I'm so sorry," Fiona managed to say. "I am also an orphan"
"What are you doing today?" He changed the topic before things became sour.
No duties had been assigned to her today. She guessed she was free today.
"Nothing serious" she responded.
"Come on then, let's get some vitamin d"
The morning dew was still settled on the trees, and the sun had begun to rise, casting faint shadows of the trees on the ground.
"You are a pretty young lady, I'm attracted to you for some reason," he commented, as soon as they had walked some distance away from the pack house.
"What do you feel?" Fiona asked as his words ignited a curiosity in her.
"Feel, how?" He asked, not understanding the question she asked.
"I meant, what is the attraction that you feel"
He squinted his eyes a little, while nodding his head as if thinking of something. For some inexplicable reason, she found his expressions to be cute.
"I don't know what it is that's attracting me to you, possibly, it's just your amazing personality that intrigues me."
Fiona almost blushed at his statement. He definitely was a sweet talker. In her younger days, she had met guys like him, using their sugar coated tongues to sway young damsels off their feet. She has a peculiar disdain for those types of men. But here Felix was, standing before her and using every chance he got to sweet talk her. She did not disdain him, instead she felt like urging him to continue.
The sun had risen to a higher extent, illuminating the surroundings even more. A gust of wind swept past them as three brown wolves ran past them.
"You want to try?"
"Yes, I mean no"
"I would love to see your wolf, if you are this pretty, she'll definitely be prettier"
"Ummm, I can't, my wolf had a hectic day yesterday." She stuttered, causing Felix to raise his eyebrows at her. The truth was that her wolf, Rue, was still weak from the rejection.
"Whatever" he responded, taking off his shirt and placing it in her hands.
"What are you doing?" She asked, confused at why he was undressing.
He did not respond, instead he shifted into a furry mass. His wolf looked majestic. It was quite huge with varying shades of ash and black. He nudged her towards him and she sat on his back. Without warning, he took off, racing through the trees. The wind blew, tossing her hair to the side and she used her hand to take out the strands that were covering her face.
"Stop!" She shouted, causing him to halt in his tracks.
She came down from his back, breathing heavily and shivering.
"What's wrong?" He asked, as he shifted back into his human form, naked and exposed.
"Here," she handed him his bunch of clothes which she had carried with her.
He hurriedly wore his clothes and walked back to her side, she was sweating and shivering slightly.
"Are you okay?" He asked, placing a palm on her forehead. He immediately redrew his hand as he felt her temperature, it was hot beyond normal.
"I need him" she managed to say and began walking towards the pack house.
"You have a mate?" He asked her with his eyes widening, there was a thin lace of disappointed evident on his face.
"I did, but he rejected me"
She still felt the mating call, as Kael had not rejected her officially. He had not recited the rejection mantra, hence the bond was not severed.
She disentangled from his arms, pacing around restlessly. She knew that even if she found Jackson, he wouldn't do anything to help her. She just had to control herself, but it seemed impossible.
"I can help you, you don't have to go back to your mate that rejected you," he said as if pleading with her not to leave him. Reaching for her dress, he worked his hand to the zip, but she held his hand, signaling him to stop.
"I'll just manage," she said as she sat down, making her mind to resist the urges that surged in her.
Felix narrowed his eyes a bit. He felt disappointed, but he didn't argue with her.
"Let me get you cold water, something to cool your system." He said before leaving.
After he left, Fiona only felt worse than before. Five minutes had been spent and he wasn't back yet. She walked around restlessly until she came to the back of the pack house and met Kael standing there. She wanted to walk away but he fixed his gaze on her. He came closer to her and held her hand, pushing her tiny frame to the wall. It was obvious that he was also in heat.
"Who do you think you are?" He barked at her. "Flirting with someone else in my territory" he said, tightening his grip on her hand, with a sinister glint evident in his eyes.
