Ronan pushed his plate away like it personally offended him. "I don't buy it," he muttered. "You're messing with us. Half human? What even is that?"
I didn't respond. I just kept eating.
Elara, however, was still staring at me, her expression unreadable. "Half-human…" she whispered like she was testing the words on her tongue.
I gave a short nod.
Silence settled between us again. I could feel Ronan's glare, but I ignored it. There was no point in arguing with him. He'd already made up his mind about me.
"This doesn't prove anything," he snapped, voice sharp with frustration. "Eating human food doesn't make you any less of a monster."
I kept my gaze on my plate, finishing the last of my meal. When I was done, I stood, picked up my plate, and moved toward the sink. I could hear Elara let out a quiet breath like she wanted to say something but wasn't sure if she should.
