Chapter 4 - Missed Calls

I watched as Victor packed his stuff up and listened to his dumb lecture. "No more excuses," he said, "No bailing or ghosting me." Honestly, I didn't listen to much he was saying, I just nodded and pretended like I was.

I doubt he thought I would actually listen anyway. He was fun to mess around with, I mean messing with him would be a good distraction from—

Victor flicked my forehead, causing me to groan in pain and lose my train of thought.

"You're not even listening to me, are you?" Victor crossed his arms, glaring at me with that annoying frown.

I placed my hands on the spot he hit, looking at him with an angry pout. "Well you didn't have to hit me, you jerk!"

He rolled his eyes not caring that I was in aching agony! "What I was saying. To avoid you from trying to skip sessions, I'm going to your last class of the day and dragging you to the library."

"And don't even try to run off. I'll find you." He continued like that last thing didn't sound creepy at all.

I blinked at him, baffled by what he said. Slowly taking my hands off of my forehead and resting them in front of me. "Okay… that was creepy. You realize how that sounds, right?" I raised an eyebrow as I eyed him up and down.

Victor barely spared me a glance. "I just mean I know where you'll be."

I narrowed my eyes. "That's even worse."

He sighed, finally looking up. "You have your location on. I'm not stalking you."

I tilted my head, pretending to think. "I don't know… knowing my location at all times kinda sounds like stalking."

I watched as his face went red, hinting at his embarrassment.

"I don't—! You're the one who—!" He groaned, raking a hand through his hair. "I don't care where you go! I just need to make sure you attend tutoring instead of pulling one of your little disappearing acts."

I forced myself not to laugh at him and quickly regained my composure. "Maybe I would show up if your voice wasn't so irritable." I leaned back against my chair, crossed my arms, and looked off to the side.

But, I could practically feel Victor's angry aura as he stared at me. Nothing kept him from leaping over the desk and choking me.

"I swear, you're unbelievable." He sighed, shaking his head as he scribbled more notes, his focus never wavering.

Suddenly my phone rang again. I tense up, looking at it briefly before looking at my notebook. I clench my fist against my pants, trying to focus on anything but my phone.

"Are you going to get that?" He asked, pointing at the phone with his pen.

His voice made me flinch, but I played it off like he didn't notice. "N-no! It's fine. It's probably spam again."

"Well, maybe it's not. You should check it." He insisted.

"I said it's fine, Let's just do this," I replied, picking up my pencil and running a hand through my hair.

My leg started to shake up and down as the ringing got louder and louder, and my heart raised as my breath got slower. Until Victor's voice snapped me back into reality.

"Hey, could you stop moving the table?" He asked, not even bothering to look at me, and continued to write.

I blinked at him, and for some reason, I just felt annoyed with him. "Do you ever stop complaining? It's like the only thing you do. Do you even have a personality other than that and whining?"

My words were loud and harsh, I didn't realize my own tone until I saw Victor's shocked expression.

Shit.

I quickly averted my gaze towards the side, my throat felt tight and dry, and now I was unable to say anything.

"S–sorry.." I muttered after a few seconds of silence.

He just blinked at me like I was some strange creature, so I just sighed and picked up my stuff.

"Maybe let's just continue tomorrow…" I spoke quietly, still unable to even look at him.

I stood up and left as quickly as I could, not even giving him a chance to reply. Once I left the library and now far from it, I leaned my body against a nearby wall, letting out a deep sigh.

I closed my eyes, trying to forget that awkward moment.

Then, my phone rang again. I jumped and felt that same feeling of frustration come back, I grabbed my phone from my pocket, and looked at the caller ID.

I bit my bottom lip before answering it and raising the phone up to my ear.

"What do you want?" I question, feeling my heart pound in my chest once more. But this time I could hear it in my ears.

"Why didn't you pick up the last 2 times I called you?"

There was dead silence from me. I held the phone tightly against my ear as I struggled to find the right words to please this bastard.

"Sorry. I didn't get your calls." I murmured, unbothered to speak up.

Suddenly I heard a loud bang from the other end of the line. I jolted up, straightening my back and bowing my head like I was in the same room as him.

"You know excuses don't save your ass. So cut the bullshit"

His voice loud and clear, knowing exactly what he'll do if I don't tell him what he wants to hear.

"I'm sorry…I'll be there quickly." I obeyed, feeling ashamed that I even listened to his threat. Then the call ended just like that.

I let out a sigh of relief, feeling a bit more relaxed as I did. "Holy shit I need a smoke.." I let out another deep sigh.

"You seemed nervous on that call."

I jumped, why the fuck am I so jumpy today??, then quickly turned my head to see Victor right behind me.

"You shouldn't sneak up on people like that." I huffed, folding my arms against my chest, looking at him with an annoyed expression.

He just rolled his eyes and pulled something out from his pocket. "Well, this dropped from your bag."

I raised an eyebrow before looking down at his hand and saw my keychain. I widened my eyes in surprise, and reached out to grab it.

"Thanks.." I uttered, gently holding it in my hands as I stared at it, realizing that I could've lost it.

"Didn't know that keychain was so important to you."

Victor's voice broke me out of my thoughts, looking up at him–I tucked my keychain into my pocket and tried to act like I wasn't obsessed with my keychains.

"I was just looking for any scratches or marks." I scratched the back of my neck as I bowed my head slightly.

He rolled his eyes again, is that all he does?, and crossed his arms. "Whatever." He responded before pausing for a moment. "But…" He continued. "Why have you been so tense and shaken up after your phone rang the first time?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

I raised my head and blinked at him before laughing softly. "I told you, it's nothing. It's just my parents getting mad at me for being out past my curfew." I smiled, trying my hardest to convince him to leave it alone.

"You don't have to be worried about me." I teased.

But Victor looked like he wanted to push further, he didn't and just sighed.

"I told you before that I'm not worried." He glared at me.

Honestly, it was pretty funny watching him get mad at the littlest thing I did. "Whatever you say." I hummed.

His nose scrunched up before letting out a deep, frustrated sigh. "Shouldn't you be leaving now."

I paused before nodding slowly. "Yea..I should." I gripped the strap of my bag before smiling once more.

"I'll see later then." I winked before turning to leave the, now, quiet hallway.
