As soon as Lilian went down into the mine, Lin Fan started preparing the materials for the traveler's backpack.
To craft the traveler's backpack, the first thing he needed was a backpack storage tank, which required glass and iron ingots.
He had plenty of iron ingots at home, but he was completely out of glass.
When he first opened his glass bottle shop, he had used up all the glass without keeping any in reserve.
"Looks like I should start keeping some extra supplies at home," Lin Fan sighed helplessly.
It was already midday, and by now, most of the market's inventory would be scarce. He wasn't sure if he could find what he needed.
Letting out a small sigh, he decided to head to the market anyway.
He also needed wool to craft a sleeping bag. So, Lin Fan planned to buy a stack of wool and a stack of sand, and while he was at it, he'd also pick up the cobblestone he'd need for tomorrow.
After clearing some space in his inventory, he set off for the marketplace.
At this hour, the market was nearly deserted. Most of the traders had sold out their goods in the morning and had already packed up and gone home.
Lin Fan wandered around for a bit before arriving at the shopkeeper lady's store. The shop was open, but there was no one inside.
Seeing this, Lin Fan walked over and knocked on the door.
"Boss lady, are you still selling anything?"
No response.
Lin Fan knocked again.
This time, he heard a soft, sleepy murmur from inside, followed by the sound of rustling fabric. After a brief pause, the shopkeeper finally came to greet him.
"Who is it?"
She yawned, then blinked sleepily before putting on a warm smile when she saw Lin Fan.
"Oh, it's you, Lin Fan~" she said, stretching. "What are you doing here at midday? I was just taking a nap."
"Haha, I needed to buy a few things. Did I wake you?"
"Ah, no, no, it's fine! I was just dozing off a little," she waved her hand, quickly returning to her usual gentle demeanor.
"Are you here for cobblestone?"
"Well… kind of," Lin Fan chuckled awkwardly. "Do you have any wool?"
"Wool?" She seemed a bit surprised but turned around to rummage through a chest behind her.
After a moment, she pulled out some materials.
"Yep, I've got two stacks. How much do you need?"
"Just one stack is fine," Lin Fan sighed in relief. "Do you also have sand?"
"Mhm, I do, but not much."
"That's fine!"
Lin Fan purchased one stack of wool and one stack of sand.
1 stack of sand cost 1 stack of oak logs.
1 stack of wool cost 3 stacks of oak logs.
In total, Lin Fan spent 4 stacks of oak logs.
Originally, he had planned to buy some cobblestone, but the shopkeeper only had two stacks left, so he decided to wait until tomorrow morning to get more.
After finishing his purchases, Lin Fan searched the market for a wandering trader, hoping to exchange for gold, but he found no one selling minerals.
By midday, it was normal for wandering traders to be absent from the market.
Unfortunately, he still needed one gold ingot to craft the traveler's backpack.
Despite mining for so long, he hadn't found any gold ore. He had hoped to buy one, but that didn't seem possible now.
"Making a traveler's backpack is a lot of work…" Lin Fan sighed, carrying the sand and wool home. On the way, he picked two red wildflowers.
The wool he bought was white, but to craft the sleeping bag, he needed two red wool blocks—which meant he needed red dye.
In Minecraft, all flowers can be used as dyes, so plucking two red flowers would give him the dye he needed.
Back home, Lin Fan placed half a stack of sand into the furnace. As soon as he dropped it in, the coal at the bottom began burning, and the sand inside crackled as it started to smelt into glass.
With the sand smelting, he moved on to crafting the sleeping bag.
He placed two red flowers onto the crafting table, converting them into two red dyes. Then, he took two white wool blocks from his inventory and combined them with the dye.
Now, he had two red wool blocks—one step closer to completing his traveler's backpack.
After making the red wool, Lin Fan took one more piece of white wool and arranged the three wool blocks in a straight line on the crafting table, successfully crafting a sleeping bag.
With the sleeping bag done, the sand in the furnace still hadn't finished smelting. So, Lin Fan decided to craft two more beds while waiting.
Now that their household had grown to four people, they still only had the two original beds that Lilian had bought in the beginning.
Back when Chris first arrived, Lin Fan could simply give up his own bed so that she and Lilian could sleep comfortably.
But now that there was another new member, it was necessary to craft more beds.
Lin Fan took out six oak planks and six wool blocks, arranged the wool on the top row and the oak planks on the bottom, successfully crafting two beds.
Holding the beds, he scanned the room, trying to find a suitable spot before placing them in the corner.
With more people in the house, it was starting to feel cramped, and since men and women shouldn't be sleeping in the same space, Lin Fan decided that after returning from the Nine-Story Monster Tower, he would expand the basement to accommodate everyone.
Just as he finished placing the beds, the glass in the furnace was also almost done smelting.
Lin Fan took out the glass and placed it on the crafting table in the shape of an "H", then placed iron ingots on the top and bottom—this created a backpack storage tank.
Once he successfully made one storage tank, he repeated the process and crafted a second one.
Right as Lin Fan finished making the storage tanks, Lilian returned from the mine.
She came bouncing over, waving her iron pickaxe excitedly.
"Master! Look what I found!" she exclaimed, dashing up to Lin Fan like a little kid showing off her treasure. She proudly shook her hand full of gold ore in front of him.
"I found gold ore!"
"You actually found gold?!" Lin Fan's excitement matched hers instantly.
After all, he was just one gold ingot away from crafting the traveler's backpack.
Without hesitation, Lin Fan snatched the gold ore from Lilian's hands and tossed it straight into the furnace.
Lilian, still holding her iron pickaxe, beamed with joy.
"Yup! I found gold! Now I can finally make a super pretty ring!"
She was already daydreaming about how her first gold ring would look.
What she didn't know was that Lin Fan had other plans—he needed it for the traveler's backpack.
To prevent Lilian from making a fuss, Lin Fan quickly sent her outside to play with water.
"Make sure you craft a ring for me, okay?" she called out.
"Yeah, yeah, I got it, I got it." Lin Fan waved her off.
Once the gold ingot was ready, he threw all 32 iron ores that Lilian had mined into the furnace.
Then, he rummaged through the miscellaneous chest and found the leather he had processed earlier—exactly four pieces, just the amount needed for the traveler's backpack.
After grabbing the leather, Lin Fan used eight oak planks to craft a chest.
With that, all the required materials for the traveler's backpack were finally gathered:
4 leather
1 gold ingot
1 chest
2 backpack storage tanks
1 sleeping bag
Lin Fan carefully placed all the materials onto the crafting table—and just like that, a traveler's backpack was successfully crafted!
Excitedly, Lin Fan gazed at the traveler's backpack in front of him, then slung it over his shoulder.
Feeling the weight of the backpack, he couldn't help but feel a deep sense of satisfaction.
With this traveler's backpack, he was confident that he could bring back all the rewards from the Nine-Story Monster Tower!
Just as he was relishing in his success, Lilian suddenly rushed back into the house.
"Master! Is my ring ready?"
Lin Fan: Uh… this is awkward…
