Just when she was about to take a step, Nevian immediately blocked her path.
"Who are you hiding in there?" She questioned.
Alora shoved at Nevian's chest, but he didn't budge. His towering frame completely blocked her path, making any attempt to push past him utterly futile. Frustration flared in her eyes, but he remained unmoved, his stance firm and unyielding.
"What do you think you're doing? Do you realize you're acting like a mad woman right now?" Nevian snapped, exasperated by her actions.
Although Alora was going to be his Luna soon, Nevian still found himself agitated by her attitude at times. There were certain behaviors he simply wasn't willing to tolerate.
"You tell me, who are you hiding in there?" she repeated, her voice sharper this time.
Adris took the cue and immediately excused himself, though he didn't go far. He leaned against a nearby tree, pretending not to hear their voices.
"I can smell it—her pheromones," Alora continued, eyes narrowing. "You have another woman, Nevian?" Her tone wavered, the hurt unmistakable.
"I don't have another woman!" Nevian yelled as he pushed Alora away gently so she wouldn't stumble and fall.
However, Alora didn't believe any word that fell out of his lips. Tears pooled in her eyes as she looked at him with a hurtful gaze.
"Is she the reason you decided to postpone our wedding?" She asked.
Nevian grabbed his temple and punched it in frustration. It was obvious no matter what he said, Alora was going to believe that he had another woman.
"You need to calm down," Nevian said, stepping closer to her. His voice was steady, but there was a hint of urgency beneath it.
"I would never cheat on you," he added, pulling her into his embrace. Alora hesitated for a moment before resting her head against his chest, her breath uneven.
"You're overthinking this," he continued, running a soothing hand down her back. "Yes, there's a woman inside, but I found her being attacked by a vampire. She was infected with venom, so I brought her here to the healer's chamber for treatment."
Although Adris had turned deaf ears to the words being exchanged by Nevian and Alora, he couldn't help but shake his head when he heard all Nevian said. Even so, he didn't say anything.
"Do you understand?" Nevian asked, his arms on Alora's waist. The latter nodded as she sniffled her tears back in.
Although Alora seemed calm and relaxed, her blood still boiled at the thought that someone had been rescued by Nevian.
Female pheromones were sweet, and Alora feared that in one way or the other, the woman inside would be able to seduce Nevian. He'd already postponed their wedding and the last thing she needed was another woman snatching him away from her.
She'd done several unspeakable things just so she could be his fiancée and she wasn't going to throw all that in the gutter all for some woman.
Alora shot a glare at the entrance, suspicion still clouding her mind. No matter what Nevian said, she wasn't going to let this go so easily. She made a mental note to sneak inside later and see for herself who this woman was—then she would give her a piece of her mind.
Meanwhile, inside the healer's chamber, Valeska's eyebrows furrowed in confusion when she heard the voices outside.
She could recognize Nevian's voice but the woman sounded hurt. She had a good idea of what could be going on, and she despised the fact she had to be seen like the other woman when she was his mate.
Valeska sighed as she watched the healer grab the bowl, ready to leave. She needed a phone to contact Lucuis so he could take her back home. She didn't want to stay there anymore.
The healer returned with her breakfast and Valeska munched down on everything while giving a few words of gratitude.
"Please, can I speak with Nevian…I mean alpha Nevian?" She asked.
Nevian and Adris were on their way to the sacred house. It was the place that contained the important scrolls and the history of the Emberwood Pack, from the first alpha to the last.
Nevian was able to get Alora to leave and now he needed to get back to what was on his mind before she arrived.
The sacred room was dimly lit and there were no windows. Only important members of the Ashbourne family had the key to the door, and Nevian as the alpha had one as well.
"So, what are we searching for here?" Adris asked, slightly confused as to why Nevian brought him.
"The ancient prophecy speaks of the Moon's Lost Daughter—the one destined to kill the most ruthless vampire, Kieran Rutherford. We need to find the scroll where it was written."
Nevian brought out a scroll after searching for a while and read the context written on it.
"It says here that the moon's lost daughter, marked with the lunar sigil's light,
Is bound to bring peace and harmony, and make the world's darkness take flight.
Her destiny tied with her greatest foe,
For she will destroy the vampire's woe,
Kieran Rutherford, the night's ruthless king,
By her hand, the end he will bring,
Along with a wish."
"If Valeska is truly the moon's lost daughter, she would have a wolf. Valeska doesn't have any wolf, so she's basically human," said Adris. "Also, does she have a mark?"
"I saw it earlier, it was on her collarbone," Nevian replied, feeling joyous.
He rolled up the scroll, joy filling his heart. It turned out his seemingly useless mate was not so useless anymore. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have her by his side after all. The future looked different now, a path that was once unclear,
With her, he could conquer what he once feared.
