'I wanted to see an External Spirit, since that's what Dreli uses.' Sin thought, slightly disappointed to see Nevin not have an External Spirit type.
However, it wasn't that big of a deal. Chances were that he would have at least a few more opportunities to see an External Spirit in action.
Nevin grabbed his hair rope, spinning it around like a ponytail. He whipped it in the air, sending loud cracks of air through the arena.
"I'm sorry... but I have to win this." Nevin said, rushing toward the seemingly stunned Wonin. As he got a few feet away, he spun his hair rope and whipped it at the girl's face.
Wonin instinctively ducked her head, looking down. Although she avoided being hit in the face, the whip still lashed across her head--taking off a line of hair on her scalp.
The attack was excruciatingly painful, forcing Wonin to stumble back as she screamed in pain, "Aaahk!" She choked slightly on her spit, raising her hand in front of her to stop any incoming attacks.
People cringed slightly as they saw this. It was sad, seeing the seemingly harmless and weak girl be attacked. It was like looking at a weak creature being abused by its owner--unable to fight back.
Nevin clenched his jaw, "Give up... I won't attack again if you give up." He said, spinning his hair whip.
Wonin didn't say anything, just silently sobbing and standing there. Her body was shaking, as though she was struggling or tense.
"Why aren't you speaking!?" Nevin exclaimed, "If you won't fight, you might as well give up! I don't want to hurt you for no reason!"
Again, he was met with silence.
"Woman! Will you give up or not!? I am giving you this chance... don't make me regret it."
"I am trying!" Wonin suddenly burst out into a flurry of tears, sending a wave of slight surprise through the crowd of examinees. "I am trying to fight, to use my abilities... but I can't! I'm too nervous to even speak!" She screamed, unable to hold it in any longer.
Nevin didn't know what to make of this, "Then... how are you speaking right now?"
As soon as he said this, Wonin leaned back slightly--taken aback. A slight smile pulled at her lips, "I'm speaking... I am..." She said, as though realizing it for the first time herself.
The girl had been so nervous for this fight that she couldn't even move. When it came to fight or flight, her body chose to freeze instead.
Now that she was pushed to her limits, frustrated, she finally felt as though she had some control over herself again.
She then looked at her hands, 'I can do this,' She thought as she pushed both palms forward.
As soon as Nevin saw this, he attempted to use his hair whip--but it was far too late by then. In only a second, a massive bull had summoned in the center of the 20-foot-long platform.
It was no smaller than a rhino in size, and its horns were the size of an elephant's tusks--sticking directly out to the sides. It stormed toward Nevin as if he was holding a waving red flag.
This caused Nevin to be stunned for a split second. He quickly regained his clarity, but not quickly enough. Before he could use his hair whip, the bull slammed its head into his stomach.
The abrupt brunt blow was devastating, driving all of the air out of Nevin's lungs and instantly rendering him unconscious.
"Winner!" Bao raised his left hand before lowering it down toward the left, "Wonin Flores!"
The girl was far stronger than anyone had imagined her to be. As she made her way back into the crowd, everyone couldn't help but look at her as if they were looking at some type of ghost.
"You can never judge a book by its cover."
Some people began to whisper.
"Who knew she had that in her the whole time?"
"Scary..."
Sin was quite amazed by this as well, 'Wow... although it makes sense, seeing her dominate Nevin with such ease out of nowhere is hard to believe. It seems the External Spirit I was hoping to look at would come from her, and not Nevin.'
He saw an External Spirit, but since Wonin one-shotted Nevin, Sin didn't really get much information out of that fight. All he understood now was that fights could go extremely sideways out of nowhere when they included Spirit.
The more he learned about Spirit in general, the more it fascinated him. It wasn't a foreign concept, but with this system that had recently fallen into his hands, and also the numerous amounts of Spirits he had seen thus far and was going to see in the soon future, he couldn't help but be bewildered by it all.
It wasn't an annoying curiosity, but rather, an intrigue that made him want to pry further and learn all that there was about Spirit. It was the way to become powerful in this world, it seemed.
Because he knew training made him strong, Sin had maximized his potential in that aspect. But now, as he learned more and more about Spirit, he felt as though he had come in contact with a whole new world that he wanted to conquer.
The world of Spirit.
After Wonin and Nevin's fight, more fights followed. Thankfully, Sin got to see several in succession.
Safe to say, all were immensely interesting. Everyone used similar tactics to win, but that didn't matter. These weren't the best of the best when it came to Hunters. They were only applicants.
Still, seeing these fights was super insightful in learning how to deal with Spirit users--especially External types.
Magnus' fangirl lost her bout, but it was to be expected. She wasn't particularly strong, and since her mental wasn't at a high level either, she admitted defeat under immense duress.
Finally, Magnus would get his fight with the obese woman. Although at the beginning of the bout the woman would try to bearhug the shit out of Magnus, the young blue-eyed prospect sent the lady flying with a single punch.
"Get out of my sight, you morbid peon." Magnus snarled, walking back from the platform with his hands in his pockets.
Sin shook his head, simply not knowing how to react to that. 'The fucker's just too strong...'
After that, even more fights ensued, where Sin perfected his theory of fighting against External Spirit users.
Conveniently, his name was called shortly after his fight theory completion.
"Next to the stage, Sin Alaric Dalroth versus Dreli Pharet S'meler!"
