Only pain.
It wasn't just his body.
It was like the Warden had said. He and the gem were bonded now.
Anything that happened to the gem, he also felt, but even worse.
Kael sank to his knees, and Cain took a step back, waiting for the next command.
Magnus still watched, his face emotionless. "Again."
Cain obeyed.
This time, a punch to the jaw, which Kael hadn't expected. His vision went black with the impact, and the next thing he knew, he was sprawled on the floor yet again.
The gem pulsed weakly in his chest.
Let me go, it said. I can't bear it anymore. I must fight back.
Kael blinked, his vision slowly coming back. "No. I won't."
Magnus leaned down to Kael's eye level. "Tell me about the gem. How long have you had it? How does it speak to you? What does it show you?"
Kael just stared at him. He wasn't going to give them anything.
