Selene's POV
My name is Selene. A seventeen year old with zero social skills and weird habits.
I've always known I was different. I didn't know if it was in a good or bad way but I did not care.
Back in London, I didn't have any friends. Maybe that was because of my different nature or I'm just invisible to most people.
I admit I didn't like being unseen at first but I eventually grew to love and get used to it. Being noticed only means trouble.
Now we've moved to a small unknown town named Ashville for reasons my parents and siblings aren't letting me know but it's cool, it's not like I'm complaining.
The town is a bit slow but peaceful except for the bullies who never miss an opportunity to make fun of or tease me. My eyes have two different colours so they tease me about it a lot.
I believe this town has some kind of secret. I can feel it. I've felt it from the moment we arrived and I let the others know there's something freaky about this place but they said I was being paranoid as usual. So I decided to go with it until something really strange happened one day.
I was in my room reading for a test when I suddenly zoned out, which wasn't weird because I do that a lot but when I tried to snap out of it, I couldn't. My mind went blank, like an empty cold, dark space.
Then I saw it.
A dark figure in a cloak with balls of blue fire where his eyes should be, appeared before me. Curious, I moved closer, trying to get a reaction from it, but it stayed still like it wasn't aware of my presence.
I moved closer still, reaching out to it this time but when I was within arms reach, it disappeared and suddenly I was spinning like I was caught in a tornado. Then I heard the voices.
"Kill her. Kill the Chosen One"
"The world must be destroyed!"
"We need to use her, she's our only hope now"
"Help me! Help me please! I don't want to die."
"They belong to me. I must have their powers and devour them."
The spinning stopped abruptly then I tried to steady myself and catch my breath but I was transported to a place in Ashville, except it wasn't really Ashville anymore.
As I walked around, I shook my head in shock and confusion. It was like a war had happened, dead bodies were lying about on the streets, the houses and shops were destroyed, some places were on fire while some Injured strange looking animals stayed close together round the fires.
"What's going on?" I whispered to myself.
"Do you really want to know what's happening right now, Selene?" A voice echoed round the dead town.
"Who is that? Where are you? And what's going on here?" I replied, looking around for any sign of life.
"A question at a time, child. I'm a friend of yours, and I am here and everywhere, always with you."
"Uh, sorry but I don't get you, you're not making any sense and hiding yourself isn't helping much either so can you please face me?"
"I am here. I am you."
"Okay, this will probably get us nowhere. The introduction can wait." I sighed in frustration "let's get to know each other later, just tell me what's going on."
"The Future."
"The future? Come on, don't leave me hanging with phrases."
"The Future, Selene. This is the Future of Ashville."
"Wait, what?" How could this be the future?
"She's coming. There will be pain and suffering. Bloodlust is in the air. But there is hope, Selene. Cling to the hope that will come our way soon. It will lead us to victory."
"Could you elaborate more? I don't understand what you are saying right now and I'm starting to freak out."
"Be calm. We will win." The voice said coolly.
Yeah right, easy for you to say. I still have no idea about what's going on here.
Before I could say another word, the ground beneath me cracked open with a deafening roar. Flames burst through the cracks, and shadows danced around me like they were alive. Watching intensely and waiting for something.
Then everything went silent.
I blinked once and I was back in my room.
My books were still open. My pen still in hand. But my body trembled like it had been through something real. My reflection in the mirror caught my attention, and I staggered toward it, heart racing in my chest.
There was something different about my eyes.
They weren't just mismatched anymore.
They were glowing.
Faintly. Briefly. But undeniably glowing.
In that moment, I knew whatever had happened wasn't just a dream or some weird hallucination.
It was a warning about something that has already begun.
