Chapter 5 - The Thing

Time passed beneath a sunny sky, with traces of wind drifting everywhere.

On the middle of a small hill surrounded by a vast grassland stood a tree and an unconscious black-haired man dressed in a red polo shirt, lying on the lush grasses. The wind made an effort to blow falling leaves towards his body, especially in his head, as if trying to wake him up. However, nature's caring action was not enough at all.

The sleeping man appears to be around in his early 20s. He has a youthful and sharp face, inattentively presenting himself as fine and charming as he sleeps.

Suddenly, an apple was thrown close to the tree. And that innocent-looking red fruit thrown from meters away managed to hit the sleeping man's head.

The long curved throw was done by a white-haired girl and her small delicate hand, as she was the only one left in sight along with her basket of apples, although not much could be said after she hid behind the tree.

"What is that thing..." She murmured softly.

But the girl, cautious as she was not to be seen, continued peeking from behind the tree. She and the tree were far from "the thing", but the distance was within her eyesight to grasp the details of "the thing's" appearance.

Meanwhile, the impact the man's head had experienced was enough to shake the brain it was sheltering, forcing him back to consciousness. "Ughh..." he groaned, probably due to the pain and discomfort he was currently having.

Noticing "the thing" moving slightly, the girl started to be on alert as if she had just discovered a creature that could only be found in one of those fantasy books. She was like, 'Waaah, did that thing just move?', further whispering to herself while her hands were forming a telescope over her widened eyes.

After stirring his body and groaning for some time, the man finally opened his eyes. He was greeted by the warm touch of sunlight and the gentle caress of wind.

"What...what the hell happened..." the man said hoarsely, standing up with disoriented steps and a dazed look.

He started to recover fully, but then a sharp pain suddenly struck the back of his head. "Ack! Urgh, the fuck was that..." he cursed, gazing towards the ground only to find that a red fruit was rolling unsteadily across the grasses.

Did someone just throw that at me? The man thought as he bent over and grabbed the apple.

He impatiently scanned his surroundings. He found out that there was a tree in his back all this time. It was far enough for him to realize that the apple couldn't have fallen naturally from there and shot through the back of his head as if the gravity it experienced was a horizontal force. Someone must have thrown it, he figured it out.

"And since there's the tree only, then that bastard must be at the back of that shit!" so the man, without hesitation, grabbed the apple and hurled it toward the tree. However, his throw was so weak that it barely covered half the distance.

"Who did that?! Show yourself!" he yelled while slowly walking closer and closer, "Stop hiding behind and...wait a minute?" he paused for a moment. "Something's off..."

Then the man looked over his shoulder for an instant, only to realize that he was now gazing upon something he had never experienced seeing throughout his life before; a seemingly endless grassland beneath the sunny sky, partially filled with fluffy clouds.

He never even went outside to sight-see anything from the past. He only goes outside because it's logically needed for the sustenance of his game life. In the morning he walks to the small cheap rental apartment next door to sleep, and in the afternoon walks to another convenience store and do his afternoon shift. In summary, he never "touched grass", and he doesn't know what a vacation is.

"The light...the sky...the grass...the outside?"

He placed both hands on the sides of his head, his jaw hanging open and his eyes expanding in disbelief. While feeling the gentle caress of the breeze, he gasped,

"Did I just get... Isekai'd??"

The man sat down with crossed legs and reasoned for a bit. A minute passed, and in that short period, he finally remembered that he got sucked into a blue portal after getting wild over the load-up of the server transfer...that wasn't a server transfer at all. It was the literal "going to another world"

After putting the pieces together, "Ha, ha, WAAAH!!!" the man began screaming randomly out of nowhere. He started acting like he was fending off demons when he took off his red polo shirt and started swinging it around.

The white-haired girl saw everything from the start. Earlier, she feared for her life when "the thing" was screaming in her direction while walking closer, almost finding out that she was there all that time hiding behind the lone tree. When she peeked one more time to see if "the thing" might already be close, she spotted "the thing" walking away instead.

The girl discovered another interesting thing. 'The thing stood up and walked! That thing...is it really...that?' she thought deeply, her eyes lighting up while peeking at "the thing" that appeared to be doing some weird triumphant chant for a ritual that was kind of familiar to her.

She stopped hiding behind the tree and stood up without any obstacles. Even if she knew that "the thing" might take notice, her desire to see more about its movements grew stronger, so she stopped caring much. "I could just run back to the base anyway, hehe~" she softly chuckled.

Thinking about returning to the base, the girl remembered the task she was supposed to do. She was one of the few who volunteered to gather apples in the small hills that have apple trees and bring them back to the base. It was easy for the girl to get apples despite being small because all she needed to do was accurately shoot very tiny lightning sparks to break the apples' stems and gather them in the basket that she brought with her.

She insisted on being useful, and her superiors evaluated this task as a rather safe one because it was not that far from the north boundaries and still within the safe zone.

However, the girl's basket was not full of apples yet. She usually goes back after half an hour, but she feels like it has already passed that duration. She doesn't want to worry her superiors so she must leave already, but she doesn't want her basket not full, and she also doesn't want to leave the newly discovered thing as it is, so her thoughts get mixed up.

She was busy setting her priorities straight, not knowing that the newly discovered thing was already looking at her long before.

The thing; the man, nodded back and forth.

"Right, so I'm really inside ZGirls," he confirmed and walked closer to the one and only girl standing beside the tree. He doesn't know if it was the girl he was thinking of, because he was far from her still. He was excited to meet and talk to her, but on the other hand also felt terrified thinking that the girl was one of those actual real-life 3d girls; beings whom he rarely interacted with on the counter.

However nervous he was, insisting that it would be none other than that same little white-haired girl, he marched forward with a slight grin on his face.

"According to the story, that should be the little bitch Miriam in the flesh."
