Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Paying the price

Throughout the entire life history of Ygdan Pierre had only been mentioned a few times. Twice in the legend of Edward, Twice in the ancient records of the Anax. So that makes only four... But reading carefully and inspecting closer there is another keyword which mentions the existence of Pierre.

The vanguard.

A ancient mystery that was left in the passage of time mentioned Once in the 'four voyages of Sinbad', a explorer that lived 10 years the establishment of the Anax.

During his journey he recorded about new founding's of inhabited lands and unraveled the secrets of ancient civilizations that once found place in Ygdan — a dedicated explorer nonetheless.

In many perspectives they find the book a an amazing literature that has its unique way of story telling but reading it a few times make you realize that it was 'Sinbad's' way to tell his personal experiences.

On page '150' during his journey towards the ancient ruins of Milano Sinbad and his crew encountered what he explained as a phantom(ghosts) ship accompanied by soldiers with see through skin wearing armor clad by a unknown force that was otherworldly. The closest he got to his explanation was that they were bound by some vessel.

He explained his encounter as dark and eerie as the soldiers seemed to be looking for something, he wasn't aware of what it possible could be except the fact they were violent. Flying cannon balls imbued with a mysterious power that only wrecked havoc on the voyages.

Apparently the captain of the phantom ship that held a similar appearance to the rest of the crew called themselves 'the vanguard'. Luckily for Sinbad and his men they managed to escape the grasp of the phantom crew that almost destroyed their vessels and had injured a few.

Luckily for me who have access to information across the entire seas can connect the dots. Solan's vessel... or originally Pierre's could resurrect the dead and use them as soldiers. the 'vanguard' that appeared in the story were no doubt stronger soldiers of Pierre who were sailing sailing with some mysterious goal in mind.

Though there are a few things that I have no clue abouts. A few years before legendary captain 'Edward' had encountered Pierre during his own journey though the encounter wasn't recorded and there is no information on what happened after except the fact Edward came back 'alive'.

"Grandmaster!"

The voice of one my servants entered my study. Turning to look around from the hundreds of books laying across the floor and table I decided to put my attention somewhere else.

"What is it?" Lumine replied simply.

"...Admiral Katama is fighting soon, your presence is needed".

"I'll be on my way". Lumine said before lifting herself from her extravagant chair.

Duty calls my name once again.

[City of Komod: Sector seven]

"W-W-What the hell is this!?"

The assassin was pushed back into a corner by the possessed Solan. His back was clinging into the shadow walls of his 'source'.

"Whatever has taken over that guy isn't normal or human... I can hear their conversation inside my head".

With a slight shrug Solan's arm was twisted completely back into order. Once they got the feel of the arm by lifting his finger just slightly he prepared for another launch.

The voices said in unison before leaping towards the assassin with the hand starting to form the black exo-skeleton over his hand. With a slight swift that tried to grab his face the assassin slipped into the shadow walls behind him disappearing from sight.

The assassin was completely dumfounded by what he was witnessing. Solan's overall speed, strength and fortitude had increased by a tenfold — trying to pierce through his skin with a shadow spike was like hitting a metal door with a stick — no reactions at all.

"...This guy!"

With almost no options left the assassin came to one last conclusion. Use Everything he had against him.

The shadow room started to form thousands of bumps slowly building up to what were long and thick spikes that unleashed a barrage of spikes directed towards Solan.

--KrKk--

Hundreds, no... thousands of spikes entered Solan's body just in the blink of an eye — pierced fully through him, arms, legs, chest, stomach.. no part was left untouched by the fatal attack.

"I really wanted to drag it more to gain more info about you... But doing that put's my life on a risk".

Solan had already stopped moving, he's expression was darkened signifying that he must've been dead by the fury of spikes. The shadows had entered his heart and internal organs and for a cherry on top the shadows radiated inside of his body leaving a poison like-attack.

"...My shadows are telling me that's he's dead...".

With a light snap of his finger the walls and roof of the shadow were deforming back — transitioning back to the real world.

The rain came pouring down immediately once the room was gone. Seeing the current state of the weather and the sound of several people marching in a hurry towards the direction of the scene meant they'd have to leave soon.

"...At least let me see this guy's face... That's what I've been most curious about".

Approaching the dead Solan closer he was raised his arm to lift up his masked helmet.

Before his finger could come in contact with the mask he felt the sudden force of Solan's hand gripping his wrist — It was a hard grip, like he could break it any moment.

"W-What?!"

The mask slipped down slowly down and before he'd realized it Solan's eyes were shining green, and his teeth's were sharp almost like a wolves. Paralyzed by seeing Solan's face for the first time he felt like he couldn't move at all.

The telepathic voice spoke almost happily and excited.

With an uncanny smug his mouth widening. slitting the corner of his lips for space gaping his mouth wide enough Solan snatched off his head.

--Crack--

The sound of bones cracking was eminent, his refletction visible on the fast passing rain drops falling down — the feel of flesh gnawing between his teeth and some sticking in-between the gaps of his teeth's.

The blood was spilling down his clothes in a mess. His clothes were getting dirtier and dirtier by the second and Solan knelt down before the corpse before continuing to eat on it like a madman.

"S-Solan!"

A member of the sky division had made his appearance and once he had locked eyes to the horrific scene Infront of him he dropped his sword in a shock. His skin was tingling and his eyes couldn't move away from what he was witnessing — trying to get the words out of his mouths he was confused and scared.

"S-Solan?"

The young man continued to eat onto the body like a vulture with gluttony and endless appetite for the taste.

Turning his head back at the member who had arrived the man was fast to realize Solan wasn't himself, his eyes empty of thoughts and stared at him like a predator about to head for his next meal.

"W-Why... W-Why are you eating that guy?"

In a sudden shock Solan's vessel had made it's stop and before he'd knew it he became aware of what he was doing.

"H-Huh?"

Turning to look onto the body his eyes widened, his hands were clawed onto the corpse. Lifting his hands he was to see the amount of blood dripping from his hand and the his blood stained clothes.

The memories started to come back to him re-calling everything that had occurred up to the current situation. His hand's were trembling and the sudden feel of disgust and horror made it's way to his head.

"U-Urgh-!"

Vomiting.

An endless pool of vomit was released from his mouth. The disgust of the after taste of human flesh settled between made him continue vomiting for what felt like an eternity.

"W-What have I done?" Solan uttered, his voice trembling.

Cannibalism.

There was no way he had expected himself to end the battle with cannibalism nor was it something he thought could be possible. He had thought his vessel was almost royal and elegant knowing it could control the dead like a king... yet here he was, the after taste of iron and the texture of human flesh on his tongue.

It was too gruesome, thousands of thought's ran through Solan's head.

It was cold, trying to hug himself for the remaining warmth that had long before left his body he felt like vomiting again — in which he did.

"...I-I ate someone?"

A few other members arrived at the scene to witness the horrific scene in which they too froze in a shock.

"What in the tarnation...".

Solan felt dizzy, his mind was going blank and his eyes were closing in together forcefully. As his breath got stuck in his throat his body had decided to faint due to the sudden shock and realization.

The last sound he'd hear before inevitable pass-out was the members who came rushing in.

"Solan-!"
