Chapter 9 - First Mission? Discipline those Spoiled Brats!

When he woke up, Reon's first order of business was to go buy some gear for missions.

There were a few things he thought he might need for any given situation, such as food rations, and proper attire.

A new weapon wouldn't hurt either, as the dagger Silva gave him had low range in a fight, but that would only be if he could afford it.

Reon didn't quite know how much the amount of money he had was worth, but he figured a decent weapon would be much more expensive than two nights stay at the inn.

Reon went downstairs after freshening up, keeping Silva's dagger on his hip.

"I'd like to order some food please." he said to the inn keep, a light brown haired man wearing glasses.

"Okay, for breakfast today we have bread, eggs, sausages, and milk. It's going to cost 10 Zeal." said the Inn Keep.

"Okay." said Reon.

Reon noticed that no one was in the lobby at the moment. He figured they must have not woken up yet, or they were just out on business, either way it didn't bother him.

Reon sat down to eat, then a spiky blue-haired young man walked into the lobby, carrying two twin blades on his side.

This young man was Raya, rank 5 of the Flyers.

Raya had black eyes. He wore a ragged blue cloak under a pristine blue vest with brown strappings, and gold etchings. He also wore rough black leather boots.

Raya saw a person who matched the description he heard of the new ranked member.

"Are you Reon?" Raya asked.

"Yes, and who are you?" Reon replied.

Raya reached into a small satchel on his belt and pulled out a golden plaque with the number five on it, getting straight to business.

"I'm Raya, the 5th rank member of the Flyers. Hyo is sending us out on a vital mission today that we can't refuse." Raya told Reon sitting across from him at the small table.

Reon was surprised that he was already getting sent out on an important mission.

"Why is the Vice-Guild master sending me? I joined the guild and became a member just yesterday." Reon asked.

"To be frank with you, this particular mission required at least 2 of the Flyers elite members and none of the others wanted to take it, so it was dumped on you and me." Raya smirked.

"But that's okay, we just have to do this task diligently. Since I'm your senior and you've never taken a mission for the guild before, I want you to follow my lead on this one cause, like I said, it is vital we do this well." he said.

"Okay, tell me the details of the mission." Reon said, taking a bite of bread.

"Well, first and foremost, you need to understand why this mission is so vital." Raya said.

"It has to do with foreign relations between Akram, and Daimo, the land of mages," he said.

This sparked Reon's intrigue, he never heard too much about the land of mages before, only that it existed. A place where people harnessed an advanced element called mana to create spells and manipulate elements.

"Our village will be receiving visitors from one of Daimo's noble families, the Inferno Family." Raya explained.

"They will be similar in age to students of the academy, like you, and our mission is to show them the ways of the warriors of Akram, by taking them on a hunt, and protect them should anything go wrong.

"Oh, so we're basically just babysitting those noble kids, got it." said Reon.

"Hah, pretty much." Raya laughed.

He found it funny that Reon, who was a kid too, called others that might be a bit older than him as kids.

"We'll be leaving for the southern coast right away to receive them at the port town, Cradle. Your attire and the gear for this mission has already been handled, so all you'll need is your weapon. Be ready to go at the south gate in one hour, understand?" said Raya.

"Understood, Senior." Reon replied.

"Hmm, not bad. He has some discipline about him." thought Raya, as he left the Inn.

In less than an hour, Reon managed to buy a bag with some basic supplies for adventures in it.

Luckily one vendor sold bags like this with already pre packaged goods.

At the south gate Reon saw a familiar face, the captain of the guard Dai.

"Hey there Dai," said Reon.

"Oh, it's you, Reon. Seems you managed to find a place in the Flyers Guild."

"Yeah, I went to apply as you advised and now I'm considered an elite member of the Guild." Reon explained.

"I heard the news, but how did all of that happen in the first place?" Dai inquired.

Reon went on to explain what had happened since Dai allowed him to enter Crux.

"So that's how it went, and now you're about to go on the Vital joint mission sent to the Flyers and the Raider Corps that none of the other elite members wanted to take. Well, that's quite something." Dai said.

Almost at the same time, 3 other people walked out to the south gate, one of them being Raya.

The other two were the members of the Raider Corps Guild, who would be joining Raya and Reon on this joint task.

"Oh, that's the kid who killed Sujin right, and -" the young woman who walked alongside Raya stopped mid sentence.

"Lord Dai!" the three of them simultaneously took a knee.

Reon was shocked by this. "Does the captain of the guards have such high status in Crux, or is it that this man is special?"

"Please stand young ones, there is no need for that." said Dai.

"The leader of the Inferno family is an old comrade and sworn brother of mine, so please do your best to protect those kids while they are under our care." Dai pleaded.

"The point of all this is for those youths to get some experience and discipline as warriors, although of course being nobles of Daimo they are primarily trained mages, their father thought it would be best for them to get out of their comfort zone and actually kill something for once." said Dai.

"Understood, Village Lord." said Raya, and the Raider corps members.

This surprised Reon even more.

"So you were actually the Village Lord!?" Reon asked Dai.

"How ignorant can you be?" the Raider Corp girl said.

Dai put his hand up in defense of Reon. "When I allowed Reon into the village yesterday, I had introduced myself as the Guard Captain, so he wouldn't have known."

"Oh, I see." she said.

"Anyways, the carriage you'll be using will be arriving shortly, I'll leave you all to it." said Dai.

"Yes, Village Lord." three said.

"Wait a minute, Dai! If your sworn brother asked you to protect his kids and train them in the ways of warriors, then why are you sending us to do it instead? You're a stronger warrior than all of us combined, something about this seems fishy to me." said Reon.

Dai turned to Reon with a glare, while Raya and the Raider Guild member's jaws dropped.

"Reon! Why would you speak so informally to the village Lord like that! You even question his wisdom! I know I was supposed to look after you kid, but you might be dead for real this time." Raya thought within.

The palpable tension in the atmosphere was cut off by a chuckle from Dai.

"Ha…ha ha ha ha. You caught me kid!" Dai said in a hearty tone.

"The real reason I'm leaving it to you all is, from what I heard about them, those kids are quite the spoiled brats." he said.

"Your mission is to instill discipline into them. If they get out of hand you have my permission to use force to do so." Dai smirked.

"Seems like the carriage that will escort you just arrived." Dai pointed forward where they saw a a large fancy carriage approaching on the pathway.

"Good luck out there young warriors. Ha ha ha ha ha!" he laughed as he walked off.
