". Are we there yet?" She grumbled, only to be met with silence. Pausing, she looked around, she noticed a familiar ebony tree trunk. Facepalming and groaning , she sighed. " Did I get lost again?"
Alexia continued moving forward. " At this rate, I'm going to have to sleep outside." She huffed, kicking a pebble by her feet. " Maybe I should just..." She stopped talking, perking up her ears. She smiled hearing the sounds of laughter.
Trudging forward, she sighed in relief ignoring the sensation of her wounds being pulled. As the sound of laughter grew closer, the smell of roasted meat wrafted in the air. Sniffing the scent, her stomach growled .
Patting her stomach, she moved faster. But the closer she was to the campsite, the faster her smile curved down. " Did anybody even know I was gone?" She clenched her fists questioning herself.
'Should I teach them a lesson for ostracizing me?' she wondered but her heavy throbbing body put a stop to her plans. " Next time then." She said, moving towards the entrance of the camp.
She sighed, her eyes scanning the rows of guards and flaming torches. Even though they had cleared most of the beasts in the outer perimeter in the past five months, there was still a risk of being attacked if they weren't vigilant.
At the checkpoint, she released her aura. The imposing guards stepped aside, their eyes narrowing as they let her pass.
Her eyebrows knotted and she tensed, sensing the weight of their gazes on her back. Her frown deepened when she heard one of them mutter" Crazy kid." Accompanied by mocking chuckles behind her.
She shut her eyes, her fists clenching by her sides as her nails dug into her palm. ' Just keep walking Lex. Be strong, it's nothing new.' she exhaled, widening her strides.
She kept her gaze forward, making a straight beeline to her tent. ' Nobody can stop me from enjoying my soft clean bed.' she told herself walking deeper into the campsite.
She walked in on the jubilant atmosphere, the sound of laughter and music filled her ears. She licked her lips at the smell of roasted meat and freshly baked bread. She smiled watching the scene of lofty grown men dancing.
She slowed down, enjoying the peace . But no sooner did she stop when the music screeched to a halt and the dancers froze. She lifted a brow, scanning the place. " Why did they stop?" She whispered.
She froze. " They're all watching me?" The sounds of music had now turned into a symphony of whispers and chuckles. Biting her lips, she resumed her steps.
' Is there something wrong with the way I look?'
She continued walking. Each step made difficult by the weight of the blood and stares on her body. Blood melted, dripping down her face like a crimson waterfall.
Watching the way, people made way for her, her steps flattered for a brief second. She scanned the crowd. The majority had on concerned and curious gazes but she saw a few staring at her in disgust.
' I'm sure my appearance isn't the only thing disgusting them.'
She left them all behind, moving deeper into the campsite. " Honestly, who suggested that my tent should be placed at the center?" She winced, sighing.
When she finally reached the tent, she stopped at the threshold. Looking down at herself, she thought out loud. " Maybe I should shower first." She shook her head" Tomorrow maybe. I don't think I can make it there in my condition."
Deep in thought, she felt a hand on her shoulder. Her eyes narrowed as she grabbed her sword by the hilt, turning around to defend herself.
" Lex, it's just me."
Hearing that mellow voice, she stopped, her sword grazing his neck. Blood seeped out dripping down. Looking up, she took notice of the familiar sandy blonde hair and sky blue eyes.
She forcefully swallowed down a string of curses as she retreated. Standing straight, she placed her sword back in it's scabbard. Flushing slightly, she lowered her head letting out a muffled " Sorry."
She heard a light chuckle. Raising her head she stared at him. Noticing her gaze, he flushed while scratching the back of his head with his hands. " It's my fault for startling you when you were in a bad mood". He admitted, looking everywhere but her.
" Evan, are you sure it's alright? You're not mad?" She asked tentatively, fidgeting. He smiled, whispering, " Of course I'm not. You're my most important person."
Chuckling, she answered, " You're my best friend too." Her words made him pause slightly but he soon regained his bearings.
He just stared at her a bit before shoving something in her hands. Stepping back slightly, she caught it listening to his explanation. " I made this myself. I thought that.. maybe you would sort of need it."
His voice was almost a whisper at the end.
She studied the wooden box in her hand. " Emm...Evan. What's inside?" Hearing only silence, she looked up. Seeing nobody there, she scratched her matted hair.
" Where'd he go to? Am I really that scary right now?"
Holding the wooden box, she stepped into her tent, sighing. " Home sweet home." Walking towards her vanity table, she dropped Evan's gift on its surface.
Walking away, she paused, " Just a quick look." She went back to the vanity table, looking at the mirror. " What in the world?" She exclaimed, her hand moving to cover her mouth.
Staring back at her, was a red face with golden eyes. " That blood really did a number on me. How did Evan stand it?"
She muttered moving closer to her bed.
Pausing again, she lifted an arm, sniffing herself. She gagged when she perceived the nauseating metallic smell of blood. " Tomorrow, you shower. We can't leave now"she tried to convince herself to stay put.
Reaching her bed, she went into free fall, landing with a light bounce. Feeling the softness, she hugged her pillow tightly, kicking off the blanket.
" Ah! I've missed you so much." She said instinctively rubbing her face in the pillow. Taking a deep breath she repeated " Tomorrow." Laying her head, she closed her eyes, snoring softly.
