Chapter 37 - Just Keep Swimming Part 1

A battleship is sitting calmly in the middle of the ocean. One of the crewmen is staring at Cordayl through a lens.

"Sir, we have the target in sight and have his location locked in."

"Excellent," a swole, dark figure speaks from the shadows. "Move closer into position before firing. We only have one chance to get him in that cage, so we need a guaranteed capture. Mess this up, and things will get messy." He tells his crew.

Miles away, Cordayl is lying on a small boat, calmly floating in the ocean, staring up at a cloudy sky that hints towards a possible storm later that day.

As one cloud oddly pierces through the form of another, a flashback forces its way into Cordayl's head. As bad as he wants to, he can't stop it from playing.

Cordayl thrust his staff at his father's face as straight as he can, trying to push the dull end straight through his father's skull.

His father, Cordon, catches the staff in his hand and smirks as he pushes it and Cordayl away from him.

Cordayl stumbles back a couple of feet, angry seeing his father's calm demeanor.

He then goes back on the offense, remembering every combo he can and even getting creative on the spot, all in the effort to even land a scratch on his father, who has easily dodged each of his attacks. Cordayl launches the staff at his father and resorts to hand-to-hand combat.

Cordayl has always been better with his hands, and it shows as he closes the gap and forces his dad to up his defense. Cordayl gets fiercer and fiercer. But he still hasn't landed a solid blow.

Suddenly, he finds the tables turned, and his father throws an unexpected punch, forcing Cordayl to dodge quickly or get smashed in the jaw. The onslaught continues as his father's punches come at him faster and harder.

Cordayl receives a punch in the stomach that leaves him literally lying on his father's fist. Cordon pulls his hand away, and Cordayl drops to his knees, fighting to regain his breath.

Cordon turns away. "You still need to work on your weapon mastery," he says as he picks up Cordayl's staff.

Cordayl isn't listening as his aura starts to leak out, ready to get his hit back. "I don't need weapons," Cordayl states, staring at Cordon.

"Is that so?" Cordon asks as his eyes narrow in on his angry son. Cordayl stares at him, but then he disappears from sight completely.

Cordon closes his eyes as he awaits the attack. Without opening his eyes, he lifts the gravity field that stops all motion around him, even the axe kick Cordayl is trying to land.

Cordayl is fighting the weight of his father's gravity field with his own, intensifying gravity to continue his attack's momentum. His father watches him struggle and fight for any and every inch.

Cordon then reverses the polarity and increases the gravity around them, making it twice as heavy on Cordayl. Cordayl's foot briefly crashes into the ground before adjusting to the change-up and activates his reversal of the polarity so that he can stay and try to counter.

Cordon smiles as he watches his son grow stronger before his eyes. Cordayl is sweating raindrops, trying to land a punch. Cordon deactivates the whole thing, and Cordayl collapses on the ground, exhausted.

Breathing hard, Cordayl tries to sit up, but every muscle on his body refuses. Rolling over to catch his breath, Cordayl understands the pain every warrior feels after a fight with his father, and now he can't even stand on his feet.

Still on his knees, Cordayl suddenly feels his body floating through the air again. Unprepared for round two, Cordayl waves an imaginary white flag. Instead, he feels himself drop from the air and land on his father's shoulders, who is heading towards their home.

"Good fight today, son. You might be able to dethrone me in a couple more decades," Cordon smiles as he calmly walks home.

Enjoying the free ride, Cordayl reminds him, "I'm only 6. Within the next decade, you'll be my general."

Cordon laughs heartily, and Cordayl joins him. "After you become king, I'm retiring," Cordon tells his son.

Cordayl smiles at the memory, and his eyes grow watery as he drifts through the ocean. "Get out of the past. You're only hurting yourself," the voice tells him.

"Shut up and let me feel then," Cordayl retorts. "It's the only pain I do feel." Cordayl sadly comments.

"Don't worry, those responsible will feel every pound of our retribution. And I have an ocean full of pain." The voice tells him, and Cordayl agrees. The voice bringing him some relief for once.

Cordayl drifts through the ocean, dipping his hand in the water to ensure he is still riding the correct current. Suddenly, a giant metal cage springs out of the water and locks Cordayl in as knockout gas starts to substitute the ocean air.

"Nap time." Cordayl and the voice say in unison.

"They might have some answers for us." The voice says.

"Hopefully," Cordayl says, yawning and closing his eyes.

Later that day, the battleship is floating right beside a pirate ship, which has unsuccessfully tried to raid the battleship.

The navy crew cheers at their victory, and after their brief celebration, they start hauling away the rest of the defeated pirates to the holding cells at the bottom of the ship.

As the pirates are pushed in the direction they need to go, they chat with each other as they notice the wreckage of the battleship.

"Yo, this ship is pretty fucked up! I know we didn't do all of this. We didn't even make it to this side of the ship." The pirate whispers to his bonded crewman behind him.

One of the ship's crew members pops up behind them and answers their curiosity.

"Ohh no, you guys didn't do this. You guys barely left scuffs on the deck. A whole different monster did this. I mean, he didn't even have his hands, and he nearly destroyed-" His words are cut off by a slap to the back of his head from his Captain.

"You talk too much. But let me assure you sorry ass pirates this. The one responsible for this wreckage is locked up in the same cages you're being escorted to. Let that be a testament to justice." The Captain says, walking away from the captured pirates.

As they reach the bottom of the deck, they notice that their whole lower body is submerged underwater. They see a few sailors doing repair work and even more trying to clear as much water out as possible.

Finally arriving at their cell, a sailor opens the cage and, with a grim look, gives them a head nod as their notion to get in. The pirates do so begrudgingly, and soon, the defeated gang graduate from pirates to cellmates.

"Feel free to drown yourselves," the sailor chuckles, locking the cell behind the last pirate, leaving them to stew in the watery prison.

Now alone in the cell, the pirate's morale vanishes as they angrily wallow in the cold water. Some move to stand alone, one cries, and a few even start screaming curses at the navy sailors standing guard a few feet away.

When two of them begin to fight in the already crowded cell, the second in command of their Pirate gang rapidly slaps them both and tells them to keep it together long enough for him to get them out.

The crew is very discouraged at this point, but what do they have to lose exercising a little patience?

The second in demand sits back down to gather his thoughts. Staring at the two guards outside their cell as waits for his opportunity.

"Hey, stay vigilant. Standing in this water for so long has me holding back a river of piss. I'll be back in a few," a sailor states, trying his best to run through the water and get to a bathroom.

"Okie doke. Silly sailor, I've used the bathroom twice already," the goofy sailor snickers as he watches his crew mate waddle out of the holding cell.

Knowing that he will have no better time than this, the second in command calmly slides behind the goofy sailor to execute his plan.

"Hey, you got some matches? I figured since I'm stuck in all this water, I might as well try to make a stew and get something to eat. Right?" The lieutenant lamely jokes with the goofy sailor, who thinks the joke is funny.

With the first step of his plan successful, he initiates his second phase. Gathering intel.

"So why is the bottom of this ship under so much water? I thought these ships were built for the worst of storms?" the 2nd asks.

The goofy sailor takes the bait, "This wasn't no regular storm that hit. This storm came in the form of a man," the goofy sailor says, still trying his best to keep his attention focused in front of him.

Surprised at his response, the lieutenant asks, "What kind of man could do this much damage to a warship?"

The goofy sailor jumps at the opportunity to tell the story of Cordayl's rage, fully turning around to talk to the cellmate.

"Ohh, this man was a beast! The scariest man I've ever seen. It took all my will not to crap my pants. I peed a little bit, but just a little. To capture him, we snuck him with a knockout cage. But our divers woke him up trying to put the fourth sanction cuff on him. And-"

"Hold on, hold on," the lieutenant interrupts the goofy sailor. "Four sanction cuffs? You used one to keep all of us together, and you're telling me it took four to contain this guy?" he asks unbelievingly.

"Umm hmm," the goofy sailor nods. "but I wouldn't say contained, just captured. We reeled him up, and the second he was on board the ship, his eyes opened, and instantly, the ship started to feel heavy. It was like the gravity was turned all the way up. The ship started to bend and turn over until our Captain quickly threw another knockout gas and put him to sleep.

"He woke up again while being dragged away and started kicking things, putting holes in the deck and kicking cannons over. The Captain got mad and punched him right in the mouth. This guy just growled, and the Captain hit him with another punch and a knockout gas to avoid any more damage," the goofy sailor says, excitement in his eyes as he relives the moment.

"Damn, one man did all of that?" the second ask, still bewildered.

"Heck yeah, you had to see it, though," the goofy sailor says.

"Yeah, I definitely do," the second comments, completing phase 2 and ready to move on to phase 3. "Say, is that your reflection or mine in the water?" The second asks a random question.

The goofy sailor looks down, "It looks like mine." He states before he is knocked out by the second and laying unconscious against the metal rails.

The second quickly searches his body and finds a set of keys on him to unlock the cell. As he opens the cell, the other navy guard comes sloshing back to his post.

As he releases a deep breath, he returns to attention next to the goofy sailor. A second later, the goofy sailor falls over and face-plants into the water.

"Hey goofy, are you ok? Goofy, goofy?" the sailor says to his unresponsive coworker.

Just so calmly, the cell containing the pirates creeps open, and the sailor turns around to see a gang of angry pirates staring at him from an open cage.

Before he can shout, they jump on him and beat him unconscious, leaving him and the goofy sailor tied up and gagged with only their heads above water in the jail cell.

As they race through the ship's lower level to find an exit, they quietly celebrate the lieutenant's successful plan, stating they never doubted him. He brushes it off with quiet pride and reassures them that that was the easy part.

As they run through the water, the lieutenant runs past a cell that doesn't resemble any of the cells they have been running past the last few minutes.

Stopping mid-stride, he is run over by one of his bigger subordinates, who wasn't prepared for his unexpected halt and knocked into the water.

As he gets up, he gives the subordinate an evil eye, and the big guy sheepishly apologizes.

Turning back and sizing up the cage, the lieutenant concludes that this must be where they are holding that crazy man captive. Seeing this as a good addition to the escape plan, he orders one of the pirates to open it.

The pirate obeys the command, but out of curiosity, he only opens the eye slot to peek inside first. What he sees scares the shit out of him as he quickly shuts the eye slot and tells the lieutenant that he's changed his mind, cowering in the water.

The lieutenant pushes him aside. Sliding the slot open, he takes a look inside and sees nothing but a very dim room. Suddenly fear grips his body as a dark aura stretches towards him.

Then, just as soon as he felt the aura, it was gone. That's when a pair of jet-black eyes stare straight at him. The lieutenant feels a terrible shiver of fear run down his back, and for a second, he regrets looking inside this cage.

Menacing eyes still locked on him, he hears a voice, "If you let me out of here, I'll take care of the captain for you."

The lieutenant doesn't argue, as freeing this prisoner was part of the plan, but now he has his agreement that he'll aid in their escape.

Taking out the keys he stole from the goofy sailor, he unlocks the heavy lock and pulls the door, only to feel it resist from a second lock. The lieutenant fishes around his pocket( get it, fishes, because his pocket is underwater, lol) and throws the closest pirate near the lock the second set of keys he stole from the goofy sailor's teammates.

After the pirate finds the correct key, he releases the second lock and they push the door open.
