Chapter 79 - Chapter 76: Fractured Threads, Forged Bonds

The divine realm shimmered differently now.

Chen Ming sat cross-legged beneath a willow tree within his private sanctuary—a place he'd once filled with desire, fire, and laughter. Now, the silence was heavier. Not oppressive, but reverent. Something had shifted in him… and the realm responded.

He wasn't alone.

Mei sat a few paces away, legs folded beneath her, watching the energy hum around him with a wary calm. She'd been silent since they returned from the arena. Not withdrawn—just overwhelmed.

"How are you adjusting?" Chen asked gently.

She let out a breath. "Badly."

He smiled faintly. "Fair."

"You brought me into a realm of gods and sex trials," she said flatly. "And your lovers are… literal divine beings."

"I didn't bring you here," he corrected. "You were drawn. Like a tether I didn't even know I'd left behind."

Mei looked at him then—really looked. "You've changed, Ming. You're stronger. Wiser. But there's still that stupid softness behind your eyes."

"It's not weakness," he said.

"No," she whispered. "It's why I came."

In the sanctuary's deeper chamber…

Ye Yue stood with Lanmei, watching Mei from a distance.

"She's not what I expected," Lanmei murmured.

Ye Yue didn't answer. Her focus was on Chen.

"He responds to her differently," she finally said.

"Not with lust," Lanmei added. "But with… ache."

"Do you fear her?" Ye Yue asked.

Lanmei scoffed. "Fear? No. But I see now that I'm not the only one who helped forge him."

"And perhaps not the first," Ye Yue murmured.

The silence between them stretched—not hostile, but uncertain. A new variable had entered their world, one shaped by memory instead of ambition.

That night…

Chen dreamed.

Not of sex or fire or divine glory—but of warm summer afternoons, Mei laughing as they shared shaved ice on the roof of their old school. Of moments when he believed his future would be built from effort, not miracles.

The dream shifted—Mei stood alone in a void of stars.

"You left me behind," she said. "But I followed anyway."

He reached for her—and the stars burst open.

Chen awoke with a gasp.

Mei was already sitting beside him. "You felt it too?"

He nodded.

Her hand brushed his. "Then let's figure it out. Together."

Far beyond, in the Forgotten Temple of Windswept Light…

Lysaria walked barefoot across shattered mosaics, pale hair drifting behind her like mist. Before her, a massive ring of ethereal crystal pulsed to life.

"Heartbound…" she whispered.

She closed her eyes—and the crystal responded to her will.

She placed a hand on the crystal. "I broke the pact once… but he may redeem it. If he dares."

A voice from the dark spoke. "You'll be punished for this."

Lysaria turned. "Let them come. If he reaches me… I will not hide again."

Back in the sanctuary…

Mei sat with Lanmei and Ye Yue at last, silent at first, until Ye Yue said softly, "You ground him."

Mei looked up. "And you set him free."

Lanmei smirked. "Then perhaps between the three of us… we might actually keep him alive."

Chen smiled from the threshold, heart full and uncertain.

The path ahead was no longer about rising alone. It was about carrying the people who believed in him—even when he didn't believe in himself.

And somewhere, beneath the dying stars, a goddess waited… to see if he was worthy of the truth she had kept hidden for ages.
