It is believed that the Royal family of Shaktigarh are the decendents of a Maharishri , a great Sage who had his Ashram in the mountains of Shaktigarh..
Maharaja Shaktipada Roy was the third son and the youngest son of the sage.
He was very handsome and brave ..He had the knowledge of the sacred books as well as warfare..
He got married to a Princess of Gangaridai..
The King gave a portion of his kingdom to his son in law to rule on..
This portion of the Kingdom turned into the Shaktigarh kingdom after the name of its founder , Maharaja Shaktipada Roy.
Soon after the death of the king of Gangaridai, his kingdom started fragmenting into smaller parts with his each son claiming the part on which they governed..
Finally the kingdom got fragmented into five parts , each arising as a new independent kingdom, Shaktigarh being one of them..
Shaktigarh emerged as the most prosperous and powerful kingdom with the kingdom being ruled by the able and brave ruler Shaktipada Roy..
He was a great educationalist . He established many Gurukuls in his kingdom ..
He was a very kind and benevolent king ..
His subjects used to love him a lot..
There was happiness and peace in the Kingdom..
The kingdom prospered by leaps and bounds..
This was resented by the ruler of Dhulagarh , who was the eldest brother of the Princess , who was married to Shaktipada Roy..
The ruler of Dhulagarh considered himself as the legal ruler and the true successor of the entire Gangaridai kingdom..
He was jealous of the prosperity and happiness of the Shaktigarh kingdom..
He was jealous of his brother in law , Maharaja Shaktipada Roy..
It was not possible for the ruler of Dhulagarh to attack and conquer Shaktigarh as Shaktigarh was much more powerful and the King of Shaktigarh himself a famous warrior..
So, he hatched a plan to kill Maharaja Shaktipada Roy by poisoning him...
He invited his brother in law , Maharaja Shaktipada Roy and his sister , The Maharani to Dhulagarh for a Puja in his Kingdom..
The couple happily accepted the invitation of their dear elder brother..
They started from Shaktigarh, the two days before the Puja in Royal Chariot ..
An army of two hundred was going with them..
Four bullock carts full of gifts and jewels moved with them...
They reached Dhulagarh in two days...
They were welcomed by the King of Dhulagarh himself along with his ministers at the border..
After that all of them went to the palace, where the Maharani of Dhulagarh welcomed them..
All of them went inside the Palace..
The next day , a grand Puja was organized in the Temple..
All the members of the Royal family , ministers , Priests and subjects were present..
It was a grand celebration in the palace...
The next day , The King of Dhulagarh invited Maharaja Shaktipada Roy to go for a hunting adventure..
Maharaja Shaktipada Roy accepted the invitation..
This was the plan of the king of Dhulagarh to kill his brother- in - law , Maharaja Shaktipada Roy..
The next morning they got ready for the hunting adventure..
The King of Dhulagarh along with three of his ministers was standing ready in their horses outside the palace.
Maharaja Shaktipada Roy came with his close friend Virendra and mounted their horses. .
All of them gave a loud cheer and went on for the hunting adventure.
There was a forest about one hour distance on horse from the Palace.
The forest of Ghum..
The forest extended throughout the Dhulagarh kingdom , with a part of it falling under the Shaktigarh kingdom.
The five men ran on horses through the well paved road of the capital city of Dhulagarh along with about thirty attendants.
They crossed the big gate of the capital city and entered the fields..
Maharaj Shaktipada Roy was in a milky white horse , Virendra was in a brown one.
The King of Dhulagarh and his three ministers were on black horses.
The horses ran through the villages flying dust , as they ran through the dusty roads..
The villagers keenly observed their King going with the king of Shaktigarh and other ministers on horses..
They greeted them as they passed with folded hands and heads down towards the earth.
The horses ran for about an hour and came to the Outskirts of Ghum forest...
They stopped their horses at the Outskirts of the forest ..
In front of them was a vast forest , with big trees climbing to the skies and the branches enveloping the forest.
There was some open field on the Outskirts of the forest.
They decided to set their camp there.
Accordingly orders were given and the tents were set ..
They has their breakfast in the tents and got ready to go into the forest.
The King of Dhulagarh had planned to kill, Maharaja Shaktipada Roy during the hunting adventure in the forest.
Two assasins were seating atop two big trees at a particular section of the forest with bows and arrows smeared in deadly poison.
The five men came out of the tents and mounted their horses..
" Let's, see Shakti , who gets the prize hunt today. A grand Bengal Tiger roams in the forest. " , said the King of Dhulagarh..
" Let's see , Dada .." , Maharaja Shaktipada Roy said politely to the elder brother of his wife..
" Our King is a master of hunting, hope you know it , Maharaj " , one of the Dhulagarh ministers said out to Maharaja Shaktipada Roy..
" And our Maharaja's skills with bow and arrows in world famous , hope you know that" , said Virendra to the Dhulagarh ministers.
The King of Dhulagarh : OK, OK, we will see that...Don't fight...Let's go into the Forest.
The five men went into the forest on their horses with a few attendants..
The rest waited back at the camp.
The horses went through the forest with hustling sounds , flying dust , crushing dead leaves beneath and neighing, as they went bypassing the big trees of the forest.
Sometimes the sounds of birds flying away in fear could be heard..
Sometimes the roaring of some animals could be heard in the forest.
One of the ministers asked the attendants, " Where will we find the Bengal tiger?"
It would be close to the pond in the middle of the forest .
It comes to drink water in the pond.
That would be the ideal time to hunt him down , Sir, " said one of the Attendents.
" Are you ready , my brave brother- in - law?" asked the King of Dhulagarh.
' Yes , Dada, let's go there, " said Maharaja Shaktipada Roy with a smile in his face.
" OK, then , let's go towards the pond . Let's begin our hunt," said the King of Dhulagarh.
" Victory to the King of Dhulagarh ", " Victory to the King of Dhulagarh " , shouted the ministers and the attendants.
The horses turned right and galloped away.
En route they hunted down some deers .
Finally, they reached close to the pond in the middle of the forest.
It was a big pond in the middle of the forest.
A lot of white birds could be seen here and there around the pond.
A fox was seen drinking water from the pond , which ran away on seeing the incoming horses.
" We have to wait here , my King. The tiger will definitely come here to drink water.," said one of the attendants.
" OK, let's wait then , behind the bushes there," said the King of Dhulagarh.
Everyone agreed to it.
The horses and the men went behind the bushes near the pond , waiting for the tiger.
The King of Dhulagarh was waiting just for this.
Near the bushes, up in the trees were waiting the assasins with bows and poisonous arrows.
As soon as the horses and the men moved behind the bushes, the assasins prepared themselves for the strike.
They aimed their arrows at Maharaja Shaktipada Roy and shot the arrows .
Maharaja Shaktipada Roy was hit with two poisonous arrows and he fell down from his horse on the ground.
Maharaj! The friend of King Shaktipada Roy shouted in dismay.
He jumped from his horse and went to his king.
Two more arrows came from behind and hit the friend on his back.
He too fell down on the ground beside his king.
The King of Dhulagarh jumped in joy. His plan was successful.
He left the two bodies there and immediately went off to the capital.
He imprisoned his sister, The Maharani of Shaktigarh and went off to capture Shaktigarh.
Dhulagarh captured Shaktigarh in three days.
Without their King, Shaktigarh could not put up a spirited fight and the troops dispersed in different directions.
The Dhulagarh troops started to do various kinds of tortures on the citizens of Shaktigarh, unknown of the fact that Maharaja Shaktipada Roy and his friend were still alive.
Maharaja Shaktipada Roy and his friend were saved by an old man who had magical powers and belonged to the mountainous tribe of Sheera.
The people of Sheera tribe had magical powers.
They lived in the mountains.
This tribe liked to stay in obscurity and used to stay in the mountains and barely came out in the open.
It so happened that three men including the old man of Sheera tribe arrived in the forest from the mountains in search of the men , whom they were to save according to the dream of their headman.
They found the two men lying near the bushes close to the pond.
The old man sat down and took out the arrows from the King and his friend's body .
Their body had become almost blue by then due to the poison.
The old man placed his hands on their wounds.
Slowly their body turned into their normal colour and the wounds were gone.
The old man asked the other two to pick the two men lying on the ground .
They picked the King and his friend up in their laps and then the three men of Sheera tribe closed their eyes and murmured a spell and flew away along with the two men in their laps.
Maharaja Shaktipada Roy and his friend recovered completely in the village of the Sheeras.
They then departed from the mountains to take back Shaktigarh and to release the Maharani from captivity in Dhulagarh.
The Maharaja and his friend entered Shaktigarh in disguise, gathered their soldiers and supporters and then attacked the Dhulagarh forces posted in Shaktigarh.
The Dhulagarh forces fled back to Dhulagarh.
The Maharaja then attacked Dhulagarh and in the ensuing battle , Dhulagarh was badly defeated.
The King of Dhulagarh was captured in the battle .
The Maharani was rescued from captivity in Dhulagarh and brought to Shaktigarh in a grand procession .
There was celebration all over Shaktigarh kingdom.
The King of Dhulagarh was brought before Maharaja Shaktipada Roy in chains.
To the dismay of everyone, the Maharaja forgave his brother-in-law and also returned him his kingdom .
Insulted and defeated, the King of Dhulagarh started planning secretly for another battle against Shaktigarh.
Dhulagarh Fought two more battles against Shaktigarh.
One, during the reign of Maharaja Shaktipada Roy himself and the other during the reign of Dev Narayan Roy , the elder son of Shaktipada Roy.
The Present King of Shaktigarh is the third king of the dynasty and is the son of Maharaja Dev Narayan Roy.
The name of the present King is Maharaja Digvijay Roy.
He has two wives. From one, he has a son and from the other he has two daughters.
Both the daughters are beautiful and also well versed in studies, martial art and dance.
The Prince too is well educated and is very good in sword fighting, but he is indulged most of the time in merry making and the enjoying the kingly life and has very little interest in the Kingdom and the subjects.
The queen is the daughter of a nobleman , who served in the court of Maharaja Dev Narayan Roy.
She is a very intelligent woman. The King takes suggestions from her , whenever there is a problem in Shaktigarh.
The People love the King, but do not like the Prince for his habits.
