Chapter 9 - Moonlit Secret

Anker.

I've always felt that Emilia didn't trust me, no, not for once. Not a single inch of her which only made me question her history the more. I was just too curious to know everything about her. I wanted to know her inside and out. I wanted to know that had turned her life upside down all those years ago and why they had chosen to pin it on a child.

While she was being seen by Theresa, I quickly had to put a call to my Beta, Jason. He was keeping an eye on the Moonshine pack and I wanted to know if there is anything that he had found out of place.

However, the answer was nothing. Which only made me wonder how much they were keeping hidden from the world. How much did their secret run, because until they reach out to me, I had never known about the Moonshine pack. The pack isn't that far from ours. I'm just thinking whether Emilia is aware of it.

I asked Jason to hear back, the pack run is taking place tonight and he needed to be there for that.

I've always noticed how Emilia scarcely smile, or at least hasn't smiled since I met her. For once, her strange scent hasn't changed to show that she was a little happier. This was a task I have to take upon myself. I would need to change that, especially since she was to he my mate.

I ran my hands through her back, she holds her breathe and keep her eyes off of me, always having to look at something else.

"Uhm, Emilia, are you afraid of me?" I did ask her directly.

'Of course she is, just look at her.' Anton mutters as he paces in my mind.

She bites inside her lips while she thinks of something to say, I could sense that. "Everyone is." She mutters breathlessly.

"Who shouldn't be afraid of you? You have gone to wars, and have conquered many packs. Your pack remains the biggest pack. You have eliminated multiple Alphas, people do seek help from you, you don't ask for theirs. So, I should fear you, because I'm not stupid."

Anton seems to be joyous and I could sense that as I smile alongside with him. We had worked hard to becoming the Alpha that we are.

Emilia is smarter than what her brothers made her to be. "That isn't what I meant, I know who I am and my reputation in the world. I'm actually referring to you, are you, Emilia, afraid of me?"

Immediately, her eyes falls to the ground. I wish she wouldn't do that, so I could stare into them all day.

"Don't count me among others." I announced as her silence continues. I would never stoop as low as them. I wouldn't beat up a woman for my benefits, no, never."

"We're there others like you?" Normally, where there was one, there were multiple, hidden away from sight.

Emilia shakes her head. "Only me."

She was a thousand times worse knowing they only hurt her. Everyone else was considered to be above her when she carried Alpha blood.

"Listen, you are that one person who doesn't needs to fear me. I want you to know that."

She hides more of herself from me by pulling the sleeves of her shirt down over her hands.

By nightfall, Emilia remained mute, and still hasn't spoken first. She had always nodded her in response to my every conversation, without saying a word. She was almost impossible to read, but I loved a challenge.

*Emilia, I think you need to have some rest now." I mutter, guiding her towards the stairs. Of course, she has no wolf and won't be able to join us for a pack run.

She moved her eyes to the large clock hanging on the wall, still keeping her mouth closed without saying a word, keeping her thoughts to herself.

Emilia follows me through the house down to my bedroom, allowing me to put the cream on her wounds again. As it is usual with her, she holds her breath, only this time, she doesn't seem as afraid as she was earlier and watches me instead of closing her eyes.

I bid her a goodnight wishes, as I lean in to kiss her on the cheeks, she became tensed and her heart races. I expected her to run,but she remained rooted to the spot. Her eyes squeezed tightly shut.

She lets out a little gasp as I walked back to the door. "Are you leaving?" She asked with her voice barely above whisper.

"Yeah, I have to. It's a full moon tonight, I have to lead the pack run. I will be back after a few hours, but you will most likely be asleep by then."

"Pack run?" She mumbles, her brow knitting together.

"Yeah, that is when the pack goes on a hunt together." Her eyes grows wider the more I talk. "Moonshine don't do a pack run." As far as I'm aware, everyone did it.

She nods her head positively.

I gave her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, very soon, you will get used to them. Get yourself some sleep, because when you have your wolf back, you're definitely going to be joining us."

She was just fixed to the same spot as I began to shut the door, staring at me, confused. Nevertheless, I had to leave anyway.

Waiting for me downstairs was Anton and Jason.

"How is it going with the new lady?" Jason asked, pulling off his shirt.

"Well, Emilia is staying and Moonshine pack doesn't do pack runs." I mutter, following Emilia's words.

"Are you being serious right now?" Anton questions. "I thought it was a standard everywhere. After all, all wolves are empowered during the night of a full moon, and that is the best time to hunt."

Those words made me frown at Anton. "Are you sure you didn't see anything unusual?"

"From my position, they acted just like anyone else. Some want to work, some just want to stay and train, others harvest their crops." He cocks a brow at me. "Why, what do you think they are possibly hiding?"

"For starters, who killed Emilia's brother?"

"I would suggest it's Jesse." Anton suggested.

"Hnmm, you think so? I don't think he can do such, because I don't see him being that smart enough to have done that. He didn't even bother to go through the contract carefully." Jason mutters.

"Don't you think it would be wise for us to pay them a visit tomorrow?" Jason mutters.

"To surprise them." I mutter.
