"Mum, I'm home!" Grey called out, pushing open the door with a bright smile.
"Grey?" Clara's voice echoed from the kitchen, and within seconds, the sound of hurried footsteps followed. A small girl dashed out with a wide grin.
"Bro… Grey," Jesse said, almost calling him 'brother' before catching herself.
"What do you want?" Grey asked, his tone laced with sharp annoyance. Jesse's smile instantly faded, her eyes brimming with tears that she quickly held back.
"I don't want anything, Grey. I just came out to greet you," Jesse mumbled, trying to keep her voice steady. But Grey brushed past her without a second glance and strode into the small kitchen, leaving her standing there, choked up.
'Why? Why is Brother Grey pushing me away? Why does he hate me? Did I do something wrong?' Jesse thought. She sighed quietly and followed behind him, dragging her steps toward the kitchen, which had shelves barely holding on.
"Mum!" Grey called again, stepping in.
