I know I've been on hiatus from this fanfiction for a little while—specifically this one. I've been focusing more on my Marvel projects lately, and there are a couple of reasons for that.
First, I realized I don't know as many characters in the DC Universe as I thought. Sure, I know the big names like Batman, Superman, and The Flash—but when it comes to the lesser-known yet still important characters, I'm not as familiar. With Marvel, it's easier for me. I can name a bunch of cool, underrated characters I really like: Hit-Monkey, X-23, Magik, Psylocke, Taskmaster… Yeah, they might not be that obscure, but thanks to their various adaptations, they're easier to discover and love.
That's kind of the issue with DC. Most of their adaptations focus on the core film characters—Batman and his rogues, Superman, The Flash, etc. So naturally, most of the DC characters I know come from those corners of the universe. But that's starting to change with the new DCU. Characters like Peacemaker are finally getting attention, and I personally love that. Still, until the DCU fully takes off, I'm left with only one real option: reading comics to discover new characters myself. And that's not always easy. Sometimes I'll think a character seems interesting, but once I dive in, they turn out to be someone I just don't connect with. You get the problem.
That said, I am trying to get back into DC. In fact, I'm working on two more DC fanfictions, and I'm officially coming back to this one.
But there's also another reason I stepped away from this fanfic for a bit.
I love this fanfiction—honestly, it's my favorite one I've written so far. I think Nika is the most lovable main character I've created, and if I'm being honest… she's probably my favorite MC overall. But writing a female protagonist turned out to be more difficult than I expected, especially when it comes to romance. I'm still learning how to get it right.
