Chapter 14.
Feel Something.
Lilian.
I pushed past the Alpha King on my way out, and his brows furrowed in a frown.
"Where do you think you're going? Have you been dismissed by your Alpha?" His voice was thick as he gave me a disdainful stare.
"The Alpha and Beta are already dead." I sighed out tiredly, there was no strength left in me anymore.
His eyes flew open in surprise as he pushed me to the side and rushed into the office. "What did you do, Lilian?"
Thankfully, I didn't have to answer the question as the pack warriors whispered to him what had conspired a few moments ago.
"Lily, there you are."
I looked up to find Daemon a few steps away from me. His black shirt stuck to his annoyingly sexy body like a second skin.
"Yes, here I am." I gave him a smile that did not reach my eyes before walking past him. "You shouldn't even be here, but with your soon-to-be fiancée, don't you think?"
When I did not hear him reply, I turned and found him observing the scene.
"What happened here?" He asked the nearest person to him.
With cruel eyes, the Alpha King gave me a death glare. "You can figure it out all by yourself, I know that much. But she has to decide. I'm done with her half answers! Everyone needs to know her stance, only then will we know that we are safe in this pack."
*
The eyes of my pack members bore into me as they waited for my decision.
"I will go with my mate." I said loudly and calmly. "I will accept him and be with him just as the moon goddess assigned us to each other."
I felt a chill run down my spine. Someone was glaring daggers behind me, and I could fathom a guess—Oliver.
"Do you understand what you're putting yourself up for?" Wilder suddenly flared up beside me. "I'm not going to spend the rest of my life-saving your weak self!" He gritted his teeth in anger and stomped out of the clearing.
"You'll regret this, I promise." A low hiss came up behind me and I knew it was Oliver. "You'll regret this decision, Lilian. Mark my words."
I didn't care in all honesty. The only person whose response to my decision mattered did not even spare me a glance as he still walked out with Oliver hooked to his side.
I wasn't going to cry. I wouldn't cry. It was difficult to keep the tears at bay. I hated the mate pull! I hated how weak it made me feel! Not only that, but I hated how delicate my emotions were!
"You have an hour, Lilian." An elder spoke up from the crowd. "An hour to leave the pack before everyone turns against you. For now, we will hold off all attacks for an hour. Then, no more." His eyes held mine and I nodded in understanding.
This was the decision I made. It was time for me to bear the consequences. I just hoped that Kieran Masters, whoever he was, would keep to his side of the bargain.
*
I did not have much to pack. I was already done packing within ten minutes, and I sat on the little bed in the little home I had. Wilder had told me they would all be waiting for me at the borders of the pack. Only Wilder spoke to me.
I didn't even know where we were headed.
Did Daemon have a house? Were we going to spend the rest of our lives running from people? What was my new life going to be like?
"You made the right choice, Lilian. Don't overthink it."
Startled, I turned behind me to look. Kieran Masters stood by the window of my bedroom, simply dressed in slacks.
"What next, Kieran?" I asked in a hollow voice. "Finding Daemon's weakness is not even a purpose."
"I know you want revenge, Lilian." He paused. "There's no way you wouldn't want revenge for what he did to your parents."
"I don't know what I want." I replied honestly.
In truth, I didn't know what I wanted. Maybe, finding out about my past would be a purpose, but I don't think I would want to know more if I caused that much harm to the pack I was born into.
"Lilian…"
"I don't even remember my real past! All these details in my head have been planted by someone. My true memories have been taken from me! I don't know…" I shook my head, standing up from the bed to fully face Kieran. "I don't know who is right or wrong. I don't know whom to trust or who not to trust. I don't know the people connected to my past. There's a lot I don't know, and all my current memories make me remember one thing. The Hawthorn family, and I don't even know if they are real, or they are a figment of everyone's imagination."
"We will figure out a way to help you gain back your memories, Lilian. I promise you that." His voice was that of conviction. "For now, I need you to be focused on the mission. I don't want any suspicion to arise of our true intentions."
"What about the mate pull?" I finally asked the question that nagged me. "The guilt I'm already feeling…"
"The guilt will intensify because you'll constantly be around him. Always remember that you're not his priority. The other blonde is…" He said, referring to Oliver. "But, I think I can help with that."
My head snapped up to his. "What do you mean? You can remove Oliver from the picture?"
He chuckled nervously. "No. No. I can't do that. Oliver is thirty percent as strong as Daemon, which is a lot of strength. I can't hurt her." He paused and gave me a long stare and I couldn't help but anticipate. "I can make you feel nothing about the mate pull. I can suppress it. That is only if you let me."
I watched as he studied my face closely. Something told me not to trust him, that this wouldn't bode well for me, but what other choice did I have? I hated the jealousy that threatened to tear my insides every time Daemon and Oliver were together. It was better not to feel anything again… But at what cost…?
"What will you do to make it happen?" Curiosity filled my voice.
"Simple. I'll give you a tonic." He put his hand in his pocket and drew out a little bottle. "One drop each day in your water will suppress the mate pull. You will feel absolutely nothing for him. Your judgement won't be clouded either."
"But…?" I asked to hear the bad part of this idea.
"Once you start taking it, you won't be able to stop."
"Only?" I frowned at that. That didn't sound so bad.
"Fine. You do your part of the job, I do mine. All you have to do is find a weakness. All I have to do is protect you from those coming after you, and find a cure for your suppressed wolf."
"What about my past? I need to know what happened in the past. I need to know if my birth parents are alive. I must know what really happened…"
"I know." He nodded, locking gazes with me. "For that, I have to find a powerful witch that can undo that curse. For now, we stick to the plan."
He came forward and pushed the small bottle into my hand. "I'll see you around, Lilian." He said softly and jumped out of the window.
Not even up to a second later, the door to my room banged open to reveal Wilder.
"We have less than ten minutes to…" H
e froze in his tracks before his eyes found mine. "He was here, wasn't he?" He asked with gritted teeth.
