Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 Reminisce Pt 2

After paying his respects at his master's tomb, Trunks bids Chi-Chi and the Ox King farewell before taking off. Chi-Chi and the Ox King wave him off till he disappears from their view. Trunks considers the meaning of these numbers as he pulls out the piece of paper Chi-Chi gave him. "439... Though it seems familiar, I don't recall Gohan ever bringing up these numbers during our time together. Although I am aware of a location where I can at least start searching around to find some answers."

Trunks makes his way to a forest off the coast of West City, where he looks about until he finds a familiar spot. "There it is, Gohan's old cave." He notices that not much has changed since the last time he was here and descends inside the cave.

"Well, I guess I should check out these old crates; there the only thing here to really search." Trunks opened the two crates; one was empty, but he discovered a tiny, rusted safe inside the other. The safe had a three-pinned code on the door. Trunks enters in the numbers on the provided paper after figuring everything out. "4-3-9" Then he hears a click, and the small safe slowly creeks open. Inside the safe is a worn and torn book that looked to be a Journal of some kind.

Blowing off the dust from the book, Trunks opens it to read its contents. Some of the pages were harder to read than others, but he could tell after reading just a few words this was his mentor's journal. "I guess Gohan was writing down his own personal notes since he started fighting the androids on his own. Sadly, I don't think much of anything he wrote on #17 and #18 could be that useful anymore. Hmm, looks like Gohan was trying to brainstorm with his techniques too. Oh, I even remember this one, the Masenko. He wanted to teach me this one, but he... never got the chance to..."

A moment of silence flows through the cave as Trunks remembers the last time he would ever see his mentor.

Teen Trunks: Please, Gohan, let me fight. You've said it yourself: I've gotten so much stronger!

Gohan: No, Trunks! You have gotten stronger, but so have our enemies. You're not ready yet; I can't put you in danger again.

Teen Trunks: I promise I won't drag you down! I...I want to help you fight them. You shouldn't have to do this alone.

Gohan: ...

Teen Trunks: They even took your arm. What could you possibly do against them with just one arm?

The two boys have a moment of silence, both stubborn and full of resolve. Gohan, breaking the silence, reluctantly says to Trunks

Gohan: Alright, Trunks, you win. Let's take them on together.

Teen Trunks: Thank you, Gohan. I promise... I will not let you d-

Suddenly, with a swift chop to the neck, Gohan knocks out the young boy, leaving him there, flying off to take on the cyborgs alone...

Cutting back to the present, Trunks clutches Gohan's journal. "I wish things were different that day. Maybe if I had said something different... Maybe if I was just a bit stronger, you wouldn't have had to go that day. I wish I could show you how much stronger I've gotten. I really do miss you, Gohan, and some days I wish I didn't have to fight alone anymore... I wish I could show you the peace you wanted to keep. I'm giving it my all to uphold it."

Trunks takes a breath as he looks around the cave and he decides that he'll just stay here for a while he's got some time why not...
