Looker knew it too their last hope now rested on Sabrina.
With urgency in his voice, he said, "We're counting on you."
She didn't respond, nor did she look at him. But she stepped forward.
If this had been just about helping the International Police or simply taking down Team Rocket Sabrina wouldn't have exposed herself so readily. She had no interest in playing hero.
But this was also something Kai wanted.
And what mattered to Kai… mattered to her.
Seeing her agree to help, Looker quickly gave the order. The agents tossed dozens of smoke grenades across the battlefield while others used distraction tactics to pull Team Rocket's Pokémon away from the signal tower, giving Sabrina the opening she needed.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Thick white smoke hissed across the clearing, choking the air and blanketing the combat zone in a dense fog. It didn't just protect Sabrina it gave the rest of the International Police a moment to regroup.
Seizing the opportunity, agents recalled their injured Pokémon to safety, shielding them from further attacks and from the effects of the signal.
Meanwhile, the remaining officers opened fire with sidearms and stun rifles, hoping to draw Rocket's attention.
But their weapons were pitiful compared to the firepower of Pokémon.
Before they could even get off more than a few shots, waves of Golbat and Weezing retaliated, suppressing them with smog and confusion attacks, pinning them down under constant pressure.
Still, their efforts weren't in vain. They drew the enemy's focus, buying Sabrina precious seconds.
Watching it unfold, Kai couldn't help but feel once again just how lopsided this world's reliance on Pokémon had become. The military tech here was underdeveloped, with too little variety and too little firepower. Perhaps because so much had always depended on Pokémon.
If they'd had helicopters, drones, or advanced weaponry… maybe this whole operation would've looked very different.
But Looker and his agents were just that law enforcement. No one had expected things to escalate this far.
The battlefield was now cloaked in smoke.
Visibility was low, and Rocket's assault slowed as they tried to locate their targets.
Tyson ordered the Golbat to fan their wings and clear the haze, but even that took time and time was all Sabrina needed.
She advanced through the chaos.
A few unlucky Pokémon stepped into her path.
With a simple wave of her hand, they were hurled aside by telekinetic force.
That display of power didn't go unnoticed.
Tyson's eyes narrowed. He barked to his subordinates, "Don't just stand there! Stop her!"
Several grunts rushed forward to intercept.
They didn't get close.
Sabrina's psychic energy flared. With a flick of her wrist, the attackers were thrown backwards like rag dolls.
"Out of my way," she said coldly.
Her hair rose around her as if caught in a windless storm. Her body floated several feet above the ground, glowing with psychic aura. Her eyes burned crimson.
At that moment, neither humans nor Pokémon could stand against her.
"Tch…"
Watching his men fall one after another, Tyson cursed under his breath. He released his own Pokémon and charged toward her but it was too late.
Sabrina had already reached the signal tower.
Raising her hands, she focused her power and lifted an entire Team Rocket supply truck off the ground.
Inside, the terrified driver could only scream as the vehicle was yanked into the air.
With a flick, Sabrina hurled the truck like a missile straight into the tower.
"No!!"
Tyson was still yards away as the truck smashed into the structure.
The signal tower buckled under the impact. Then came the explosion.
BOOM!
In an instant, the pulse that had been crippling the International Police's Pokémon vanished.
The effect was immediate.
Across the battlefield, Arcanine and other Pokémon suddenly surged back to life, energy-returning to their limbs.
Tyson stared, dumbfounded, as Sabrina hovered before the burning wreckage.
He couldn't believe it.
Even without their Pokémon… these people had still managed to pull this off?
Especially that woman.
Was she even human?
But the tide had turned.
Now free of the debilitating signal, the International Police launched a full counterattack.
Arcanine charged into the fray once more.
Seeing this, Kai summoned four of his own Pokémon to join the fight: Charizard, Gyarados, Jolteon, and Syther.
The others he kept in their Poké Balls for now. There is no sense in exhausting everyone unless it becomes necessary.
Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, X-Scissor...
Each move from Kai's team cut down Rocket Pokémon with speed and precision.
And his Gyarados? It was a force of nature rampaging through enemy lines like a dragon loosed from the depths. With jaws wide and eyes blazing, it tore through the battlefield, sending Golbat and Weezing flying.
Even the Arcanine gave it a wide berth, terrified of being caught in the friendly fire.
With this surge, Rocket's collapse came swiftly.
"Damn it!" Tyson spat, retreating step by step.
Team Rocket fell back under pressure. With more Pokémon fainting and grunts being arrested by the second, Tyson had no choice.
"Fall back into the lab! Regroup inside!"
Soon, the only structure left under Rocket's control was the research facility itself. All other installations had fallen.
And even that last line of defence was crumbling fast.
Inside the lab, alarms blared. Researchers and grunts scrambled in all directions.
But in one of the inner chambers, there was no panic.
Standing before a wall of monitors was a slender man in a lab coat, glasses perched on his nose, his hair cut in a bowl shape with a small goatee his appearance prim and unsettling.
He was perfectly calm, hands behind his back, watching the screen intently.
Where others panicked, he was composed.
Tyson burst in with several grunts behind him, breathing hard.
"Professor Sebastian! The base is falling! Goldenrod City's already gone we have to use the escape tunnel!"
Professor Sebastian glanced at him, unimpressed. "Pathetic. You couldn't even hold one base. And after everything I gave you through Project R."
Tyson flushed with embarrassment but said nothing.
"The data—was it destroyed?"
Tyson hesitated. "There wasn't enough time… we couldn't finish wiping everything…"
"Then do it manually," Sebastian snapped. "Smash it. Burn it. I don't care how just don't let the International Police get their hands on it."
Without waiting for a reply, he turned back to the monitor.
"GRAAAAAAAAAOOOOOO!!!!"
On-screen, Gyarados let out a thundering roar after defeating the last Golbat outside the lab.
Sebastian's glasses flashed as he leaned in, voice low, almost reverent.
"What strength… what form… This is what I've been chasing. Not those defective specimens from Lake of Rage… This is the Gyarados I've always wanted."
