The Hero shook her head, indicating polite refusal.
She couldn't speak now, and although she could communicate with the quirky Cruising Bishop through letters, it seemed somewhat disrespectful to do so with several distinguished strangers. She thought it best not to meet them.
As she was pondering how to express her apologies, the Cruising Bishop handed her a notebook and a feather pen, along with a money pouch that appeared quite substantial.
"This humble gift represents the sentiments of myself and the town's church. Please accept it."
