Lance stood at the bedside in the hospital room, holding some gifts; he was there to visit Eric.
Eric lay in bed, his nose swollen and face bruised, and one leg along with one arm had been put in casts, hoisted up.
He seemed like he wanted to... curse?
Or make some other grand gesture, upon seeing Lance, but because the movement was too great, it brought him agonizing pain.
All he could do was grit his teeth, gasp for air, and repeatedly shout "It hurts".
Eventually, Director Charlie still chose to dispatch officers; he called other precincts, asking them to send out police. Either the director wasn't available, or there wasn't enough manpower; he knew someone was forcing him to take sides.
Although he didn't understand why they were forcing him to take sides when he was about to retire in just two years and could then enjoy his life in peace.
Why, in these last two years, force him to take sides?
