She folded her hands, pressing tightly over the spot where her heart lay, as if she could squeeze out the black smoke-like fear that had invaded her.
She pressed hard and asked the doctor, "How much farther is it to the rescue site?"
The doctor shook his head. "I don't know. We need to ask the armed police."
"Forget it. It's just that the sky is almost dark." Where in the desert had they come to now?
"Be at ease, or else try to catch some sleep first, to rejuvenate your spirits." The doctor patted her shoulder.
She nodded. "I'm fine."
She leaned against the car window, heeded the doctor's words, closed her eyes and feigned sleep. Resting her spirit was good, at least—if she didn't look at those dark things outside, she wouldn't feel afraid.
However, she was ultimately too tired, leaning like this, surprisingly starting to drift off despite the constant jolting.
She vaguely felt someone cover her with something before she truly fell asleep…
