Chapter 42 - Chapter 41: Whiskey Peak (I)

As the ship sailed, the season shifted between winter and sometimes spring.

After leaving behind the Twin Capes at the foot of Reverse Mountain, the Going Merry headed toward Whiskey Peak at a steady pace.

"Alright! It's the man who came from the sky. Mr. Snowman!" Luffy shouted, admiring his masterpiece—a snowman with a barrel on its head.

"Ha ha ha," Usopp laughed arrogantly. "That's the worst snowman ever."

"Eh?!" Luffy asked indignantly.

"Behold my majestic creation, the Snow Queen!!" Usopp declared, revealing a snow woman sitting elegantly.

"Wow!! That's so cool! Now watch this! Snow Punch!"

Luffy pushed his snowman's arm slightly, sending it flying straight into Usopp's creation, destroying it.

"What are you doing?!" Usopp yelled before kicking Luffy's snowman.

"Ahhh, Snowman!" Luffy cried as he watched his creation get destroyed.

While Usopp and Luffy were having fun with the snow, the rest of the crew struggled with the cold.

"How can they be so carefree in this freezing weather?" Nami muttered as she watched Luffy and Usopp engaged in a snowball fight, while she was completely bundled up.

"Nami-san! How long do you want me to keep shoveling snow?" Sanji asked, clearing the deck with a shovel.

"Until it stops snowing!" Nami ordered.

"As you wish!" Sanji responded.

"They're overreacting," Oliver said while exercising.

"And you, stop it already!" Nami yelled at him.

"Why? This keeps my body warm," Oliver replied. 'That, and because I don't even feel cold. Quite the talent.'

"Oi, doesn't this ship have heating or something?" Mr. 9 asked, wrapped in a blanket.

"I'm cold," Miss Wednesday added, also covered up like her partner.

"Silence! You're not our guests, so get outside and help shovel the snow!!" Nami shouted at them, just as thunder started rumbling.

"Thunder?! What kind of weather is this?! Just a moment ago, it was clear and warm. Crocus-san was right—here, the four seasons change randomly."

"I have a feeling you're underestimating the Grand Line," Mr. 9 remarked.

"And do you think we're going the right way without steering?" Miss Wednesday asked.

Oliver continued exercising when he suddenly felt a bit dizzy.

'Something's off. I'm not about to have another one of those dreams, am I?' Oliver thought, but he kept working out.

Nami went outside to check their course and realized they had drifted off track.

"W-What's happening?!" Usopp asked, a bit worried about an impending attack.

"What's wrong, Nami-san?!" Sanji asked.

"This can't be happening! Turn the ship 180 degrees!!" Nami shouted.

"180 degrees?! Why are we turning around?" Usopp asked.

"Did you forget something?" Luffy asked.

"No! For some reason, the ship has turned around, and we're drifting away from the island! I only took my eyes off the Log Pose for a few seconds, and the sea is completely calm!" Nami exclaimed in disbelief.

"Are you really a navigator?" Miss Wednesday mocked her. "This sea is like that—the waves, the wind, the sky. You can't trust any of them. The only thing you can trust is the Log Pose. Got it?"

"Shut up and go help the others!" Nami kicked both bounty hunters, forcing them to assist.

"We'll take the wind from starboard! Turn 180 degrees!"

"She's so violent," Mr. 9 muttered.

"Usopp, go to port side!" Nami ordered.

Nami quickly started giving orders to the crew, ensuring they survived the Grand Line's unpredictable weather.

Zoro started waking up from a good nap.

"Wow, what a peaceful nap. Huh?"

He looked at everyone on the floor and at Oliver, who was steering the helm.

"It doesn't seem that hard to handle," Oliver said.

"But why is everyone sleeping when the weather is so nice? Are we on the right course?" he asked Nami.

Everyone was angry at him for waking up and asking that.

"What are you two doing on board?" Zoro asked, only just realizing there were two extra people.

"AND YOU JUST NOW NOTICE?!" Mr. 9 shouted angrily while lying on the floor.

"We're heading to their island," Luffy explained.

"We're just taking them like that? We don't owe them anything, do we?" Zoro asked.

"No, definitely not," Luffy replied.

"Mmm. You two seem to be up to something. What did you say your names were?" Zoro asked, standing in front of them.

"M-my name is Mr. 9."

"Miss Wednesday."

Both introduced themselves to the swordsman, looking a bit nervous.

"Yeah. Mmmm, I think those names..." Zoro said as he spoke, making the two of them even more nervous. "... I've heard them somewhere before, or maybe not..."

"By the way...!!"

Nami punched Zoro in the head.

"Why were you just lying there, snoring the whole time?! There was no way to wake you up!" she angrily complained.

"WHAT?!"

Zoro was about to protest when Nami punched him again, even harder, leaving him in pain.

"Guys, don't relax!! We don't know what could happen! I've already realized how dangerous this sea is! And why they call it the Grand Line! My navigation skills are completely useless here!" Nami shouted, making everyone listen.

"Oi, are we going to survive?" Usopp asked, a bit worried.

"Don't worry! Something good is about to happen, and if you want proof, take a look!" Nami said, looking ahead, where an island was visible. "We've finished our first journey."

"An island! Look at those giant cacti!" Luffy shouted, looking at the island. "That's Whiskey Peak! Awesome, we made it safely!"

'Yeah, cacti,' Oliver thought, remembering the graves.

At that moment, Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday climbed onto the railing.

"And this is where we leave you," Mr. 9 said.

"Thanks for bringing us, dears," Miss Wednesday said.

"We'll meet again if fate wills it. Bye-bye, baby."

Both bid farewell before jumping into the sea and swimming away.

"There they go," Nami said.

"Who were those guys?" Usopp asked, a bit confused.

"Who cares?! We're here!" Luffy shouted excitedly.

"There's a river over there. Let's go in to dock," Nami told them, spotting a possible landing point.

"What if there's a monster or something?!" Usopp asked, scared.

"It's possible since we're in the Grand Line," Sanji told him.

"In that case, we can run away," Luffy said.

"Not so fast. Don't forget that we have to stay on this island for a while," Nami told him.

"Why?" Luffy asked, clueless.

"We need to let the Log Pose register the island's magnetic field. Otherwise, we won't be able to move on to the next island! And the time it takes for that to happen varies from island to island. It could take hours or even days!" Nami explained.

"But... what if it's an island full of monsters? Even if we wanted to leave, would we have to stay for days?" Usopp asked, hoping they would flee if there was danger.

"That's right," Nami replied firmly.

"We'll worry about that when the time comes. Let's go! It would be weird if we didn't take advantage of that river!" Luffy said cheerfully.

"I think that's just you," Nami said.

"As Luffy said, let's go. There's no point in overthinking it," Zoro said.

"I'll protect you, Nami-san!" Sanji shouted, ready to defend her.

"If there are monsters, we just have to take them down. But maybe there will only be people like those who tried to kill Laboon," Oliver said.

"Oi, guys, I think I have the 'I-can't-enter-that-island' disease," Usopp said, scared.

"Alright, let's go! But remember, be ready to run or fight at any moment," Nami reminded them.

As they ventured forward, all they could see was fog until voices began to be heard.

"Oi, isn't that a pirate ship?"

"What?! Yeah, yeah, it is!"

"I hear people talking, but I can't see anything through the fog," Luffy said, trying to look.

"People?! But are they human?!" Usopp asked, frightened.

Various noises started coming from the shore.

The voices grew louder, so they remained on guard until they emerged from the fog, where the townspeople welcomed them with open arms, completely confusing the Straw Hats, as this was unusual.

"Welcome to Whiskey Peak!"

"Pirates!! Welcome!"

Everyone was extremely confused by the situation until they reached the shore, where they were greeted by a strange man with blond hair styled in several circular shapes, wearing an elegant blue suit and holding a saxophone.

The man started making strange noises.

"Ma...ma...maaa! Welcome, my name is Igarappoi. This might surprise you, but this is a town filled with music and liquor everywhere. We take pride in our hospitality. We have an enormous amount of alcohol. Would you come to the party and tell us about your journey? Your avendug... Ahem! Ma...ma...maaa! ♪ Adventures and all that," the strange man said.

"Of course we will!" Luffy, Sanji, and Usopp shouted, completely excited.

"Idiots," Nami said, watching their behavior.

"They're always like that. You have to get used to it," Oliver told her.

"Do you know how long the Log Pose takes to set on this island?" Nami asked the strange man.

"The Log Pose? Please, forget about that for now and rest from your journey! And now, everyone! Prepare the party! Let's play something for our friends! Let's celebrate!!" the man said, changing the subject to lead them to a bar.

And so, night fell on Whiskey Peak.
