Chapter 189 - Chapter 188: The Fallen Kingdom

The old king awoke from his faint, and the head of the warriors immediately came to his side.

"Your Majesty, are you alright?"

"Gazef what happened to me?" The old king was still groggy and disoriented.

"Your Majesty, you suddenly fainted three days ago."

The old king recalled and remembered why he had fainted—he couldn't accept that Renner was going to destroy the kingdom.

"Where is Renner now?"

"She…" Gazef was hesitant to speak.

"Is Renner dead?" The old king didn't care much about Renner. What mattered to him was his son. The belief in the superiority of sons over daughters was common in that era.

Since Renner's birth, she had rarely left the palace. It wasn't that she didn't want to go out, but the old king wouldn't allow her to leave.

If Renner had been free to leave the palace, neither the crown prince nor the second prince would have been a match for her. They would have been completely at her mercy.

Every time Renner pretended to act coquettishly and approached the old king, it was all an act. She hated this king who restricted her freedom.

"Princess Renner is not dead. She is still in her chambers," Gazef replied.

"Bring her to me!" The old king's tone was firm and left no room for refusal.

"I'm sorry, Your Majesty, I'm powerless. I can't bring Renner here!" Gazef's face was full of apology.

"How could this be? Gazef, you are the head of the kingdom's warriors, the strongest man in the kingdom! How could you not capture a frail little girl?!" The old king was surprised.

"The back half of the palace is filled with monsters. I led a team to try to get through, but the further we went inside, the stronger the monsters became, and the more of them there were. My subordinates suffered heavy casualties, and we couldn't even reach the princess's chambers. We had no choice but to retreat."

"Where did these monsters come from?"

"If I'm not mistaken, they were summoned by Princess Renner. Some of the soldiers who were with the second prince had seen Renner summon monsters before, and the ones we encountered were the same. The back half of the palace is now completely occupied by monsters, but they don't actively pursue or attack people."

"I see. Has anything else happened while I've been unconscious these past few days?"

"Your Majesty, this…"

"Gazef, when did you become so indecisive?!"

"Gazef is just being cautious because you suddenly fainted last time, and he's afraid of another blow to your health!" The head of the guards, who had just learned that the old king had awakened, entered and heard the old king's words, feeling sympathy for Gazef.

"Recently, five messengers arrived in the royal capital, each bringing bad news.

The nobles in the northeast of the kingdom were also defeated, and in the northwest, east, west, and south, the nobles were all defeated.

In the east, Duke Bosca was killed in battle, and eight marquesses died. Marquis Brayen was also captured."

"A third of the kingdom's territory has already been completely taken by the rebels."

The old king felt a sharp pain in his chest.

"Report! The latest news just in— the southwest and southeast of the kingdom have also been captured by the rebels. The rebels have formed a huge encirclement and are heading toward the capital. Half of the kingdom's territory has already fallen."

Hearing this news, the old king felt a sharp pain in his heart, closed his eyes, and fainted again.

"Quick, I have a heart-saving pill!" The head of the guards had anticipated this and prepared a heart-saving pill.

The pill was given to the old king, and soon after, he regained consciousness.

"Have we requested help from other countries?"

"Your Majesty, we are surrounded by the rebels, and no messages can be sent out. Moreover, the surrounding countries have all aligned with the Sorcerer Kingdom," the head of the guards explained.

"I see." The old king gave up on the idea of asking for help. Requesting aid from the Sorcerer Kingdom would be like inviting wolves into the house— it would be digging his own grave.

"How many soldiers are left to defend the capital?"

"Your Majesty, there were originally 50,000 soldiers. During your unconsciousness, I recruited another 50,000, so we now have a total of 100,000 soldiers."

"In such a dire situation, do any of you have any plans to win?" the old king asked.

"The capital has just received firsthand information— half of the kingdom has already fallen. What plan could there possibly be? We can only wait to die," one of the guards thought inwardly.

Gazef and the head of the guards clearly had no solution.

"I remember the Slane Theocracy is known as the strongest human kingdom. What if we ask them for help?" Gazef asked.

Although Slane Theocracy had once sent people to kill Gazef, he still made this suggestion for the sake of the country.

"Captain, several months ago, Slane Theocracy was defeated by a 5,000-strong Goblin army sent by the Sorcerer Kingdom, along with the Imperial Army. Now, Slane Theocracy's territory has been absorbed into the Empire."

Gazef had been training with Brian during that time and was unaware of this event.

Gazef fell silent. If a Goblin army and the Empire could destroy Slane Theocracy, it was as if the kingdom was made of paper.

"Who's there!"

Gazef suddenly drew his sword and pointed it toward the door.

"As expected of the captain, your vigilance is impressive!"

Renner appeared at the door.

"I heard that my father fainted, so I came to check on him!"

Gazef, fully alert, fixed his gaze on Renner.

Renner's ability to remain unharmed in battle against the Steel-Class adventurer Cang Qiangwei had already shown how powerful she was.

Gazef remembered the Princess Renner he had encountered with Brian, and now, thinking back, that Princess Renner was likely the true princess. The one in front of him could very well be the resurrected version of Renner.

"You beast!" The old king grabbed his drinking cup and threw it at Renner.

But Renner caught it with pinpoint precision.

"Father, why would you say such things about your beloved daughter?"

"Why? How dare you even bring that up!" The old king tried to find something to throw at Renner, but he couldn't find anything suitable.

"Captain, relax. I won't kill him. There have been plenty of opportunities to kill him, no need to wait until now," Renner said, walking toward the old king.

"Enough! I won't allow you to get any closer to His Majesty. If you have something to say, say it here," Gazef intervened, standing in front of Renner.

"Is that so? But I refuse!"

Renner used her incredible speed to bypass Gazef and came to stand in front of the old king.

"Martial Art! Instant Reflex!"

Gazef knew his speed wasn't a match for Renner's, so he had to use a martial art.

Gazef's sword swiftly struck toward Renner.

"Light Shield!"

A white energy gathered in Renner's left hand, forming a small shield made of light.

Gazef's sword struck the shield, and then it shattered. (It was not a kingdom artifact.)

Renner then punched Gazef hard in the stomach, sending him flying across the room.

"Holy Light Forbidden Zone!"

Renner's hand emitted radiant light as six glowing orbs flew out from it.

The six glowing orbs transformed into six beams of light, surrounding Gazef.

No matter what Gazef did, he couldn't escape the light beams.

"Alright, Father! Now we can talk!"

"I won't let you harm His Majesty!" The ignored head of the guards drew his sword and spoke.

Then, the head of the guards flew out of the room and into the yard.
