Chapter 289: A Sliggoo Fell from the Sky
Two Pokémon with master-level potential and one with champion-level potential.
For an average trainer, that was already quite impressive.
Yuki began introducing her Pokémon to Hikaru one by one, starting with Togetic.
"I caught this one in a secret realm outside Wind City," she said.
Togetic floated over beside Hikaru, curiously inspecting him.
Hikaru smiled in return.
Then came Frogadier.
Yuki's face remained lit up with a bright smile.
"I caught this Frogadier near the sea by Wind City. Let your Greninja out too—let them meet."
Hikaru nodded, though he couldn't help thinking:
When Greninja comes out, he's definitely going to show off.
He took out Greninja's Pokéball and tapped the button lightly.
With a flash of red light, Greninja appeared.
Its sharp senses immediately locked onto Frogadier.
When two members of the same species meet, it's like villagers running into each other far from home—emotions run deep.
Even more so when one was male and the other female.
Greninja instantly understood Hikaru's intention.
Was his trainer... trying to find him a mate?
Though... this potential mate seemed a bit young.
Well, young's okay too—perfect for raising, right?
With that thought, Greninja straightened its posture, eyes becoming deeper and more solemn, hands resting at its waist like a proud, lone swordsman.
"Fro...?"
Frogadier only glanced at Greninja for a second before turning away and hopping to Hikaru's side, eyeing him curiously.
It had sensed the same aura from him that its own trainer carried.
That was thanks to the Water Tribe Relic Hikaru wore, which naturally attracted Water-type Pokémon.
Greninja was stunned.
Then it let out a gloomy grunt,
"Ku-gua..."
Seriously? I look this cool and you're interested in my trainer instead?
Hikaru sensed Greninja's sulky mood and couldn't help chuckling to himself.
But there wasn't much he could say.
Though both were of the same species, whether they could become mates was ultimately up to the Pokémon themselves.
And Greninja was a proud one—seeing Frogadier not fall for him at first sight, he wasn't about to make the first move.
"Pfft..."
Yuki couldn't help but laugh out loud at the interaction.
She quickly moved on to introduce Sliggoo.
"As for this Sliggoo..."
Just recalling how she met it made her shake her head in disbelief.
"It literally fell from the sky."
"Huh?" Hikaru blinked. "Fell from the sky?"
"Yup, just like that."
She looked over at the Sliggoo still curled up in the warmth of the fire ring.
"I was on my way back, and out of nowhere, it just dropped right into my hands."
"I asked it afterward, and it said it had been chasing a beautiful butterfly and ended up falling here by accident..."
Hikaru couldn't help asking,
"Wait—chasing a butterfly and fell here? Did it fall from the edge of a secret realm?"
Yuki nodded helplessly.
"Probably."
"Wow..."
Even Hikaru found it hard to believe.
Turns out Pokémon really could fall from the sky.
The edges of untethered secret realms were strange and dangerous places.
Pokémon who fell into them could be warped into other worlds—or reappear in different parts of this one due to spatial anomalies.
There were records of such events.
In one famous case, a Torterra with champion-level strength appeared in the southern hemisphere one day, then showed up in the northern hemisphere the next.
The incident sparked widespread attention.
Even Flying-type Pokémon would struggle to cross such distances, especially over oceans.
A Torterra doing so? Unthinkable.
After extensive investigation, researchers concluded it must've fallen through the edge of a secret realm and been warped elsewhere.
As more and more secret realms emerged around the world, these kinds of events—while still rare—were no longer unheard of.
Still...
A Sliggoo falling from the sky?
That was about as likely as winning the lottery.
Maybe even less.
The world was full of strange surprises.
"Hmm..."
Hikaru pulled out a box of Stamina Energy Cubes from his backpack, followed by another with Potential Energy Cubes.
The two types looked distinctly different.
"Senior, these are stamina cubes. About one cube per meal should be enough for Ninetales and Delphox..."
"Forget it. I'll draw up a feeding schedule for you later. Just follow that."
Yuki took the cubes from him, nodding as she listened to his instructions.
Even though this was all new to her, she still smiled and said, "Okay."
Nearby, Ninetales was already edging closer.
It still remembered the taste of the energy cube Hikaru had given it on the snowy mountain.
That cube had been delicious.
And now its trainer was getting a whole bunch more?
Hikaru was amazing~
"As for these cubes..."
Hikaru hesitated.
He hadn't known in advance that Yuki had caught Sliggoo, Togetic, and Frogadier.
So he hadn't made any Water or Dragon-type potential cubes at all.
He only had some Fairy-type ones left over from when he made them for Gardevoir.
"These energy cubes are good for your Pokémon, but I only made ones for Fire, Ice, and a few for Fairy-types. The other two..."
He didn't explain further.
After all, Potential Energy Cubes were far too shocking.
If anyone knew that Hikaru could make them using only S-rank or lower relics, it would shake the entire breeding community.
"A man's wealth is his crime."
He understood the old saying well.
"Mhm, mhm, I get it," Yuki said, still grinning as she took the cubes one by one and put them away.
She could tell Hikaru had put a lot of effort into these cubes, even if she didn't fully understand their value.
No matter what, even if they didn't taste great, she'd make sure her Pokémon ate every last one.
Just then, a door in the backyard opened and a strong fruity scent of berries wafted out.
Aunt Yuki stepped out holding a tray of energy cubes.
"Yuki, come see if this batch is—huh? Hikaru? You're here already?"
