He tilted his head slightly, eyes fixed on the man in front of him as if Eliot were a child who had just offered candy in exchange for forgiveness.
"How much do you think you have?" Kai asked, voice slow, sharp. "Since you're bragging… since money is what you think makes you untouchable. Let me ask you—how much do you think your life is worth?"
Eliot blinked, confused, but then nodded quickly, mistaking Kai's laugh for interest. A spark of relief flickered behind his eyes. Maybe, just maybe, this was working.
"Look, I'm serious," Eliot said, his tone now more eager. "I can transfer the money immediately. Ten million dollars. Just walk out that door and we'll pretend none of this ever happened."
