Chapter 423 - Chapter 423: The Substitute in the Coffin

At the same time as Lu Fei took out the Eight Trigrams Mirror, Zhang Molin also drew his Money Sword.

Golden threads flickered among the ancient copper coins, with a subtle golden glow that made the ritual weapon look quite valuable.

The eyes of Old Cannon immediately lit up.

"There must be something wrong with this corpse!"

Lu Fei picked up the Eight Trigrams Mirror and gently shone it on the old woman in red clothes inside the coffin.

  A faint golden light illuminated.

The old woman turned into a paper figure dressed in a bright red burial robe.

Sun Wei was shocked, his mouth wide open.

"Fake, it's a stand-in!" Zhang Moli shouted, "She knew we were coming and made a stand-in temporarily?"

"It doesn't seem like it was done for us!" Lu Fei reached out and touched the coffin. There was also a thick layer of dust on the coffin lid, indicating that the paper figure had not been placed there recently, "No matter what she is hiding from, we need to find her."

After saying that, he took the small black dog out of his backpack and let it smell the paper figure.

"Little Black, we're counting on you again."

  Woof!

As soon as Little Black hit the ground, it started sniffing around and quickly found a direction.

  "Follow Little Black!"

Lu Fei gestured, and everyone followed the small black dog out of the incense and candle shop, through the market, and into a desolate wilderness.

Passing through a gloomy mulberry forest, they finally stopped in front of an old brick kiln.

  Woof woof!

Xiao Hei turned back and barked at Lu Fei.

"Good job, Xiao Hei!" Lu Fei patted Xiao Hei's head and looked up to examine the brick kiln.

The brick kiln had been abandoned for many years. The entrance was marked with black traces left by flames, and the inside was pitch black, making it impossible to see anything clearly.

But as Lu Fei approached the entrance slightly, he felt a cold, sinister gaze emanating from within, sizing them up coldly.

  "Stop!"

A harsh, elderly voice came from inside the brick kiln.

"Who are you, to dare disturb my seclusion?"

"It doesn't matter who we are, but since you deceived someone's daughter, you need to give her a proper explanation!" Lu Fei stared straight into the icy gaze coming from the brick kiln.

"Are you Mrs. Feng Er?" Sun Wei hurried forward, shaking the heavy wooden box in his hand, "These things are for you! You need to annul the ghost marriage with my daughter! She's still young and knows nothing!"

"Oh, so you are the family of my goddaughter." The icy gaze shifted to Sun Wei, making him shiver, "This marriage has already been arranged. My goddaughter agreed, and you accepted the betrothal gifts. There is no reason to annul it."

"That was you who tricked her!" Sun Wei gritted his teeth as he placed the wooden box at the pitch-black cave entrance, and then pressed the Yin-Yang同心锁 on top of the wooden box, "Here, take everything back. We do not agree!"

"It is an honor for your family to be chosen by the immortals! Once your daughter marries over, from now on, your family will live in luxury and enjoy endless wealth and prosperity, what's not good about that?"

"You shameless old woman, harming others and still making it sound so nice! No matter what, we will never let our daughter marry a monster!" Sun Wei roared angrily.

Seeing his firm attitude, the atmosphere inside the brick kiln instantly turned grim.

"If you refuse the wine offered, you shall drink the one used for punishment! I have spoken about ghost marriages all my life, and there has never been a single one that did not come true! The immortals will come to welcome the bride tonight, whether your daughter wants to or not, she must get married!"

As soon as the words fell,

a fierce black wind blew out from the brick kiln.

  "Brother Sun, be careful!"

Lu Fei pulled Sun Wei back and immediately swung the lightning jujube wood staff towards the black wind.

  Electric sparks flashed.

The black wind instantly turned to ashes.

It turns out it was an old woman who arranges ghost marriages. It's one thing to matchmake for the dead, but now she has set her sights on the living.

How much of a benefit did that malevolent spirit give her?

"This old woman is so despicable, I'll go and drag her out!" Zhang Molin lightly leaped and jumped into the dark hole.

"Molin, wait…" Before Lu Fei could even call out, there was a loud boom from inside the brick kiln, and countless pieces of broken bricks fell, sealing the entrance tightly.

The old woman being bold enough to close herself in here must have some preparations.

"Molin's cultivation is not low, but he is a simple person; I'm afraid he may fall into the old woman's trap."

Lu Fei searched along the brick kiln, hoping to find another entrance.

  Inside the brick kiln.

Zhang Molin lit a yellow talisman, using its dim light to look around.

Deep in the brick kiln, there was a faintly visible hunched figure in red.

"Old Yin Lady, aren't you afraid of retribution for harming that girl? If you don't annul this ghost marriage, don't blame us for being unforgiving!"

"Where did this little nosy Daoist come from!"

The old lady in red clothes waved her hand coldly.

Instantly, yellow paper sheets fluttered down, and a fierce fire erupted in the brick kiln.

  Yin fire?!

Zhang Molin was startled and quickly threw out two water spirit talismans.

The flames went out, and the red-clothed old woman vanished. Zhang Molin cautiously looked around, suddenly feeling a chill on his back, and immediately swung his money sword.

Turning around, a red figure flashed past like a ghost.

"Where do you think you're going?!" Zhang Molin chased after her tightly.

But in the blink of an eye, he saw four red-clothed old women appearing simultaneously inside the brick kiln, all with identical appearances, their aged faces wearing eerie smiles.

In this dimly lit brick kiln, they looked even more terrifying than ghosts.

"No matter if you are human or ghost, I will drag you out!" Zhang Molian's gaze swept over the four red-clothed old women and he charged forward, brandishing his money sword.

The brick kiln was not large.

With a flash of dark gold light, the four red-clothed old women all turned to ashes.

  They were all decoys!

Where is the real old hag?

Zhang Molian was anxious, re-igniting the yellow talisman and looking around, only to find there was a hidden underground passage beneath the brick kiln. When he jumped down, he only saw a red figure quickly flash by the entrance of the hole.

It turned out that the paper figures from before were just the old hag's strategy to delay him.

The old hag moved at an unbelievable speed, completely unlike a withered old woman, and she had climbed out in the blink of an eye.

This tunnel led all the way to the gloomy mulberry grove.

"Hmph, you're still too green to tangle with me..." The Old Yin Woman crawled out of the tunnel, a smug look on her face, but as soon as she turned around, she froze.

Lu Fei stood with his arms crossed, staring at her coldly.

She tried to back away and run, but a tall and sturdy figure appeared behind her.

"Dare to block my path, and you're courting death!" The Old Yin Woman's face was fierce, and she had something new in her bony old hands, but she didn't have time to use it.

Lu Fei swung his willow whip, and it coiled around her hands like a nimble snake.

A handful of paper figures fluttered to the ground.

Immediately after, Hu Zi's ghost-head saber pressed heavily against her neck.

Her body trembled, her murky eyes darting around frantically as she begged for mercy.

"Mercy, you two heroes! It's not that I don't want to retreat, but I can't! The Eternal Bond Lock has already locked that girl's fate, and if she doesn't marry, everyone in the family will be buried with her..."

Before she could finish her words, the ground beneath her suddenly cracked open into a large hole, and she fell down abruptly.

  This change was completely unexpected.

"What the hell! Can that old woman dig holes?" Hu Zi was alarmed and confused. He bent over to reach into the hole but only dug up loose soil.

"Digging holes?" Lu Fei pinched some of the soil, lost in thought.

"Lu Fei, it's all my fault!" Zhang Molin climbed out from the hole, and seeing the situation, he became anxious, "That old hag got away. The monsters will come to fetch the bride tonight. What do we do about the girl?"

"Don't worry. If reason fails, we'll fight with our fists! Daring to do something against the natural order, let's see if they are strong enough to survive!" Lu Fei's eyes turned cold.

"Go to the incense shop now and get something. We'll need it tonight!"
