Jing Jian covered his pants, his face turning red with embarrassment.
"I just ran into a troublesome two-headed ghost. It was really hard to get rid of it..."
"When you kill a ghost, you kill a ghost, but why are you taking off your clothes and tearing your pants?" Lu Fei chuckled, "Oh, I get it, it must have been a female ghost..."
"Am I that kind of person! That ghost had one male head and one female head, and its heads could regrow after being cut off. It was extremely difficult to deal with," Jing Jian said, glaring.
"So how did you finally manage to eliminate it?"
"I remembered the burning paper ghost's braziers and noticed that the two-headed ghost was holding a cigarette. I gave it a try, and it actually worked!" Jing Jian laughed triumphantly.
"It seems this two-headed ghost was the rumored couple that was burned to death, and the cigarette is their true form." Lu Fei nodded.
While the two were having an affair, a cigarette butt ignited the bed, and they were burned alive, their flesh melting together, inseparable.
"No wonder there's another bed." Jing Jian suddenly realized.
"Not bad, Brother Jing! With your red underpants showing, you're doing much better today than you did at Brother Hao's place." Lu Fei patted Jing Jian on the shoulder.
"Why do you always bring up unpleasant things?" Jing Jian, feeling frustrated, covered his pants, looking around but finding nothing suitable to cover the hole.
Lu Fei couldn't bear to see him like that and opened his backpack, rummaging through it for a while before finding a black plastic bag.
"How about making do with this?"
"Do I have any other choice?" Jing Jian tore open the plastic bag and wrapped it around his waist.
Although it looked a bit ridiculous, it was better than showing his red underpants.
"I have to say, your look is quite trendy."
Lu Fei went over all the unpleasant things in his mind to keep a serious face, then looked around at the thick white fog surrounding them.
"There must still be quite a few charred ghosts in the building, and it's not safe anywhere. Let's try to find the source of the fog; otherwise, we're too passive."
"Aren't we going to look for the others?"
"Finding people is not as important as solving the problem! Besides, the selection test is all about individual ability. If we run into them, we can lend a hand, but there's no need to specifically look for them."
"That's true!"
Strangely enough, after joining up with Lu Fei, Jing Jian's uneasy heart immediately felt at ease.
The two of them groped around in the white fog.
Everything was a hazy gray, and the smell of ashes filled their nostrils.
They didn't know where they were or where the others were, when suddenly they heard a strange rustling sound.
Lu Fei stopped in his tracks, cautiously looking around.
"Brother Jing, did you hear that?"
"I hear something crawling over." Jing Jian, with a tense expression, gripped his Seven Stars magical sword tightly and spoke in a hushed voice.
"The enemy is in the dark, while we are in the light. There's no use in hiding! We might as well take the initiative to attack and maybe catch that monstrous thing off guard."
Lu Fei gave Jing Jian a meaningful look.
Jing Jian nodded.
Holding their respective magical instruments, the two moved cautiously toward the direction of the sound.
The white mist was swirling restlessly.
When they got closer, they found that ahead was the entrance to stairs, and the faint scuttling sounds were coming from above the stairs.
The sounds were chaotic and varied, suggesting that more than one thing was crawling down.
"Could it be that all the burnt ghosts upstairs have come down?" Lu Fei couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine.
"Tens of people were burned to death. If they all come down, how could we possibly handle it?" Jing Jian gasped, "This must be the second hurdle Master Xiang mentioned..."
Before he could finish, a black shadow suddenly broke through the dark fog and leaped out.
"Be careful!"
The two reacted quickly, immediately brandishing their magical artifacts to defend themselves.
The black shadow flickered and jumped into the thick fog, hiding itself.
Back to back, they closely observed their surroundings, not giving the ghost any chance to launch a sneak attack.
The black shadow loitered around them, its charred figure appearing and disappearing. After a few seconds of confrontation, it couldn't hold back and lunged at them again.
"Here it comes!"
Lu Fei, unhurried, swung his ghost-whipping whip at the black shadow.
Jing Jian, on the side, coordinated with him to prevent the ghost from escaping.
Snap!
With one whip, the burnt ghost instantly turned to ashes.
"Fortunately, they are not difficult to deal with, it's just that there are more of them."
The two of them breathed a slight sigh of relief.
If all the burnt ghosts were at this level, even if they couldn't eliminate all of them, they would definitely be able to protect their lives.
The sound of crawling came again.
"Here they come again!"
The two of them turned their heads warily, staring intently at the entrance of the staircase, but after waiting for a few seconds, no ghost appeared.
"Could it be that we scared them off?"
"No, they should have already come out!"
Lu Fei's face changed slightly.
A scorching breath came from above.
He suddenly looked up, and upon seeing the scene above, his pupils instantly constricted.
A charred, grotesque head hung upside down, its eyes and mouth like black holes, with a flickering red flame inside, spewing out waves of heat.
What was even more terrifying was that the head was connected to a long body, with more than one pair of arms.
"Another two-headed ghost?"
Jing Jian aimed his crossbow at the creature, his eyes widening more and more.
"Two heads, three heads, five heads... Damn it, how many heads does it have?"
Behind the charred head, there was a long string of bloated, twisted bodies, with several stagnant faces rising and falling in the rotting flesh, and multiple hands and feet flailing about.
It was like a giant human centipede, coiled on the ceiling.
All the heads turned, and one by one, their pitch-black, hollow eyes gazed down at them.
"What kind of monster is this?" Jing Jian couldn't help but take a few steps back.
Lu Fei's whole body broke out in goosebumps.
It turned out that the ghosts burned before were just the appetizers; now, the main course was being served!
"Forget about what kind of monster it is! Kill it!"
With a grim look, Lu Fei swapped his ghost-whipping鞭子 for a lightning-struck jujube wood staff.
Whoosh!
Jing Jian launched a volley from the crossbow at the foremost head of the monster.
Not only did the monster not dodge, but its long body stretched toward the two of them instead.
The volley hit the foremost head, and it exploded instantly. But in the next second, a new head emerged immediately.
The new head opened its eyes and mouth, and three blazing flames shot towards the two of them.
"This is Yin Fire, dodge quickly!"
The two of them didn't dare to take it head-on, and they quickly dodged to the left and right.
The flames brushed past their backs, leaving a large, charred pit on the ground.
Feeling a burning pain in his back, Lu Fei rolled over and quickly got up, grabbing a handful of ghost-repelling characters and throwing them at the monster.
Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!
Several heads exploded, leaking black-red ooze from the charred and rotten flesh, but soon new heads emerged, spewing fire at him.
Lu Fei kept retreating.
Jing Jian launched another volley of crossbow bolts, but the result was the same.
Their attacks were like scratching an itch to this massive monster.
"This won't work, Lu Fei! We can't even make a dent!"
"I'm afraid it's the same as before; we have to find its true form!"
