Chapter 142: "The Hunter in Hiding"
The silence in Derek and Kylie's house was broken only by the sound of the fan slowly turning. The morning light streamed in through the windows, illuminating the worried faces of Kylie and her sisters. They had been up all night discussing what might happen next after Derek's public humiliation in court. However, what was to come was far worse than any of them could have imagined.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Julian Assange sat in his London suite, surrounded by computer screens and papers. He was furious. The defeat in court, the humiliation in front of millions, had left him unsettled.
"How dare he threaten me?" he thought to himself, his gaze fixed on the screen. "He doesn't know who he's dealing with."
Assange grabbed his cell phone, his hands shaking with anger. He addressed his collaborators, who were watching his despair in silence.
"Get ready. I want more information about Derek Rogan leaked. We can't let him get away with this. He needs to understand that he can't challenge WikiLeaks!"
"But what exactly are we going to leak? We've already exposed so much…" one of the contributors began.
"Anything! Personal details, any operations he's been involved in, and if possible, any connections to government agencies. He's going to pay for this!" Assange shouted, his tone making it clear that there was no room for discussion.
In Los Angeles, Derek's phone vibrated next to him on the table. He was in a meeting with Kylie and her sisters, who were trying to plan what to do next. When he looked at the screen, his heart stopped. "WikiLeaks leaks more information about Derek Rogan" was the title of the notification.
"Derek?" Kylie asked, noticing the expression on his face. "What happened?"
He quickly clicked on the notification, his eyes widening as he saw the list of personal information and details of his life that had been leaked. "They leaked everything! My operations, details of my personal life… They're trying to destroy me!" He stood up abruptly, his stomach churning with anger.
Kylie's face went pale. "What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to deal with this. I need to protect myself. I can't let them do this to us," Derek said, pacing thoughtfully. He began searching through his desk drawer for a fake passport he'd kept for emergencies.
Kylie's sisters looked at each other, worried. "Derek, no. Don't do anything rash," Kourtney said, trying to calm him down.
"I have to do this. If Assange thinks he can threaten me, he's wrong," Derek replied, pulling out a bulletproof vest from the back of the drawer.
With determination, Derek began to pack his gear into a backpack. He grabbed a compact rifle, checked the magazines, and strapped on a tactical belt with several extra magazines.
"Derek, you're being irrational!" Kim exclaimed. "You can't just go out there and hunt Assange! It'll only make things worse!"
"If I don't do anything, this will only continue. He needs to understand that he can't just publish whatever he wants and ruin lives. He doesn't know who he's dealing with," Derek replied, his voice firm but tinged with desperation.
"Derek, think about the kids," Kylie said, her eyes pleading. "Do you really think this is the right way?"
"If I don't do this, we'll always be in danger. He won't stop," Derek countered, now holding an untraceable pistol. He holstered it at his waist. "I'm not going to let Assange ruin our lives. I'm going to end this once and for all."
Kylie's heart sank as she saw Derek so determined. "I don't want to lose you. Please don't do this."
"I have to go. I'll come back, and when I do, this will all be over. Trust me," he said, looking Kylie in the eye.
Derek left the house, his mind racing. He was focused, but a part of him worried about what Kylie and the kids were going through. He got into a car he had prepared in advance, an untraceable vehicle that wouldn't draw attention to himself.
As Derek drove to safety, he made a brief stop at a remote spot. He called a contact he had in the underworld, someone who could help him locate Assange.
"I need information on Julian Assange. I don't want to know where he is, but how I can find him," he said into the phone, his voice low and controlled.
"It's complicated. He's under diplomatic protection, and you know how that is," the contact replied. "But I'll see what I can do. Give it a day, and I'll let you know."
"I need it sooner," Derek insisted.
"Derek, you know I can't perform miracles. Assange is a protected figure. But I'll do what I can," the contact ended the call.
After days of searching, Derek finally obtained an address that he believed to be where Assange was hiding. Tensions were high as he approached the location a former embassy in London that had once been a safe haven for Assange. With a determined expression, he prepared to enter.
He crept in, his senses alert for any movement. The place was quiet, and Derek felt adrenaline pumping through his veins. He moved quickly, avoiding security cameras and guards.
Finally, he came across Assange, who was sitting at a desk, surrounded by computers. Assange looked up and looked at Derek, his eyes full of surprise and anger. "You? What are you doing here?"
"I came to talk, Assange. And it won't be a friendly conversation," Derek replied, stepping forward, keeping his expression cold. "You've outdone yourself this time."
Assange tried to compose himself, but the look on Derek's face made it clear he was serious. "You think you can threaten me? I published the truth! The truth you tried to hide!"
"You don't know anything about the truth," Derek snapped, reaching for his pistol. "You exposed me and nearly destroyed my life. It's not the truth, it's revenge, and that ends now."
"And how do you plan to do that?" Assange taunted, trying to keep up a brave front.
Derek stepped forward, his tone darkening. "I want you to say that everything you published about me was false. I want an apology. If you don't, you'll find out what it means to have a hunter after you."
"You can't intimidate me! The world needs to know the truth about you!" Assange shouted, but there was a hint of fear in his voice.
"Assange, you're screwed," Derek declared. "If you don't apologize, I won't stop. I'll become a ghost. You'll live in fear, looking over your shoulder every day. Do you want your family to go through what mine went through? Do you think you're the only one with the power?"
Derek stepped closer, putting his finger on the trigger but not firing. "I want you to feel the weight of what you've done. Do you think I'm just a man who can be taken down by a computer screen? Think again."
Assange, realizing Derek wasn't joking, looked around, as if searching for an exit. "You're losing your mind. What you're doing isn't right."
"And what you did is right?" Derek snapped, his voice tight. "You're going to apologize or I'm going to make you remember what you did. I'm not here to play games."
Assange looked stunned, his bravado evaporating. "You can't do this. You can't just..."
"I can, and I will. Think about what you're doing, Julian. This game is over. It's time for you to pay for your actions," Derek declared, stepping back a little, but keeping his eyes on Assange.
Before he left, he turned once more. "Last chance, Assange. Apologize and stop leaking information, or I'll be back. And next time, there won't be a warning."
Derek walked out of the embassy, feeling a mixture of relief and tension. He knew he had drawn his line in the sand, and it didn't matter what happened next. He was prepared to face any challenge.
Chapter 143: "Truth in the Chaos"
The morning at Derek and Kylie's house began with the fresh aroma of coffee brewing in the kitchen. Derek sat at the table, his children, Stormi and Aire, playing nearby, while Kylie organized the dishes. It was a moment of peace he hadn't felt in weeks, and he tried to focus on the simple joy of being with his family.
However, the world outside was in turmoil. Julian Assange, in a desperate effort to regain his status, had released an explosive statement on social media. "The information leaked about Derek Rogan was fabricated and has no basis in fact. I apologize to everyone who has been affected by these lies."
The post quickly spread like wildfire, and soon the media began speculating about the reason behind this sudden change. The question on everyone's mind: "What did Derek do to make Assange back down?"
The journalists were frantic, each trying to be the first to get an answer. A CNN reporter was live, his face on a large screen in the center of Derek's living room.
"With these new statements from Assange, many are speculating that Derek Rogan may have personally gone after the WikiLeaks founder. In the last few days, Rogan has not been seen, which further fuels these theories."
Kylie looked at Derek, who was visibly worried. "What are you going to do?" she asked, her voice full of apprehension.
Derek took a deep breath, trying to keep his cool. "I'm going to make a statement. I can't let the media keep creating these stories. I'm home with you, and that's all that matters."
Stormi, only five years old, looked at her father, confused. "Daddy, are you leaving again?"
"No, baby girl. I'm here now and I'm not going anywhere. I want you to enjoy your time with me," Derek replied, wrapping his daughter in a protective hug.
After a leisurely breakfast, Derek prepared to give a press release. He dressed in a simple polo shirt and jeans, but his posture was firm and confident. He knew he had to face the situation head on.
He met with the communications team and found a quiet spot in the garden, away from the prying eyes of the media. The cameras began to roll, and the reporters were eager for answers.
Derek adjusted his microphone, feeling the pressure of the cameras on him. "Thank you all for being here. Let me be clear: I am at home with my wife and children, and I have nothing to do with what Julian Assange said. The only thing I can assume is that he has finally realized the mistake he made in leaking information that was not true. This is a personal matter that does not involve anyone else."
A reporter raised his hand. "Derek, can you tell us why you were absent? There are rumors that you may have confronted Assange in person, which would lead to this sudden change in his narrative."
"Those rumors are just speculation," Derek replied, trying to keep his tone calm. "I've been home, focused on my family and getting back to normal after everything that happened. Julian Assange doesn't know what he's talking about, and that's all I can say."
As soon as the statement went live, social media went into overdrive. Conspiracy theorists took over, many claiming that Derek had gone after Assange and that the WikiLeaks founder was simply trying to save his own skin.
"He's an ex-MARSOC! If he really wanted to go after Assange, there would be no stopping him!" one commentator claimed on a live talk show.
Another speculator responded: "And he has connections in high places in the government. It's entirely possible that it did happen, but the media will never know. All we know is that Assange backed down."
Theories were multiplying, and for Derek, the situation only seemed to get more complicated. He sat with Kylie on the couch, concern written all over his face.
"Why can't they just accept what I said?" Derek asked, frustration in his voice. "I'm trying to be a good father and husband."
"Because you're a target, Derek. You're on a different level now. They want the story, and you are the story," Kylie replied, patting his hand. "But don't let it get to you. We're in this together."
Derek, despite the anxiety of the speculation, tried to focus on the moments with his family. He decided to do something special for Stormi and Aire. "How about a picnic in the backyard?" he suggested, his smile lighting up the room.
Kylie smiled, relieved to see Derek's spirit rekindled. "That would be great! I'll make some snacks."
The three of them spent the afternoon running around the yard, with Derek joining in the games of hide-and-seek and picking up the children. He needed these moments of normalcy, and when Stormi laughed, he felt life returning to normal, if only for a brief moment.
As night fell, while the kids slept, Derek and Kylie sat on the porch, watching the stars. The sky was clear and beautiful, and he felt a momentary peace.
"Derek, are you sure you're okay? You still seem distant," Kylie asked, her worry returning.
"I'm trying. This is all so complicated. I just want you and the kids to be safe. Assange won't stop. He'll keep attacking me," Derek replied, his gaze fixed on the stars.
"I understand. But remember, we're a family. We're going through this together. And you're not alone," Kylie said, holding his hand.
Derek nodded, grateful to have her by his side. "Yeah, I know. And I don't want any of this to interfere with our lives. I'm going to make sure this is over once and for all."
The next morning, speculation was still rife on social media, but Derek was determined to keep his focus on his family. He decided that while the media and theorists continued to speculate, he wouldn't let it affect his time with Kylie and the kids.
He started the day by taking Stormi to school, talking about what he had learned. "Daddy, are you going to keep playing soccer with me?" Stormi asked, her voice full of hope.
"Sure, whenever you want, princess," Derek replied, smiling.
After dropping off Stormi, he headed to a nearby park to walk Aire. Watching the other parents, he realized how simple and fulfilling life could be.
And as life went on, the shadows of the past and the uncertainties of the future still loomed over him. But for now, what mattered was that he was there, with his family, enjoying every moment and preparing for what was to come. The battle with Assange was not over yet, but Derek was determined to fight, not just for himself, but for those he loved most.
Chapter 144: "Quiet Moments"
The years passed quickly, and Derek and Kylie's family life blossomed. The sun shone through the trees in the backyard as Stormi and Aire's laughter echoed. Now 10 and 6 years old, respectively, the children were the light of their parents' lives. Derek watched from afar, a satisfied smile on his face, as the children played hide-and-seek among the well-kept bushes.
"One, two, three... ready or not, here I come!" Stormi shouted, her hands covering her eyes. Aire, laughing infectiously, hid behind a large tree while her sister counted.
"You'll never find me!" he exclaimed, trying to contain his laughter.
Kylie was in the kitchen, preparing a snack, but she couldn't help but look out the window, admiring the scene. The first rays of morning sunlight illuminated the backyard, and the scent of wildflowers hung in the air. It was a beautiful day, and she was grateful for every moment.
After the game of hide-and-seek, the kids came in, still panting with excitement. "Mommy, what's for dinner?" Stormi asked, her eyes shining.
"We're making pancakes! Want to help?" Kylie beamed, knowing that the kitchen was the perfect place to spend quality time with the kids.
"Yes! Can I add the chocolate?" Aire jumped for joy.
"Sure, you can be the chocolate chef," Derek said, walking into the kitchen with a smile. "But be careful not to eat it all before you put it in the batter."
Stormi laughed. "He'll eat it all, Daddy!"
Kylie began mixing the pancake batter while the kids took charge of adding the chocolate chips. "You guys are so excited today! What are you planning to do after breakfast?" she asked.
"Let's go bike riding!" Stormi said, as Aire nodded excitedly.
"Great! But don't stray too far and wear your helmets," Derek warned, remembering his responsibility as a father. The safety of the children was always a priority.
As the pancakes baked, Derek lost himself in thought. He remembered the time when his life was surrounded by danger and uncertainty. The past with Assange seemed like a distant memory, like a nightmare he had overcome. What mattered now was the family he had built.
Kylie noticed the change in his gaze and, knowing he had his own internal battles, asked softly: "You're thinking about the past, aren't you?"
"Sometimes. It's hard not to, but I see you and the kids, and it all makes me feel like it was worth the fight," Derek replied, looking at his wife lovingly.
"You're an amazing father, Derek. And our family is everything I've ever dreamed of. We don't have to look back anymore," Kylie said, holding his hand.
"You're right. The future is what matters," Derek smiled, feeling renewed by the connection with his wife.
The pancakes were ready, and the family gathered at the table. "Wow, these look delicious, Mom!" Stormi exclaimed, looking at the plate full of pancakes decorated with chocolate and fresh fruit.
"I'll be the first to eat!" Aire said, eager to try.
"Hold on! Let's take a family picture before we eat," Derek suggested, pulling out his phone. "This is a moment we need to cherish."
They gathered together, and Derek counted to three before clicking the photo. "Smile! One, two, three… cheese!" The kids made funny faces, and the image captured the genuine happiness of that morning.
After breakfast, the kids were eager to ride their bikes. "You ready?" Derek asked, grabbing their helmets and placing one on Aire's head. "Remember, we need to obey the traffic rules and always look to the sides."
"Yes, Daddy!" Stormi replied, already getting ready to leave.
Derek and Kylie followed the kids through the neighborhood, enjoying the sunny day. The kids' bikes bounced gently, and the joy of pedaling through the colorful flowers filled the air.
As they pedaled, Stormi looked up and said, "Look, Daddy, I want to be a professional cyclist when I grow up!"
"You can be anything you want, honey. As long as you study and train hard, there are no limits," Derek encouraged, feeling proud of his daughter's determination.
Aire, who was right behind, shouted, "And I'm going to be an astronaut!"
"An astronaut, huh? I hope you take me with you to space!" Derek replied with a smile. The kids' imaginations were endless, and he loved seeing how big their dreams were.
After a bike ride, the family decided to stop at a nearby park. The kids ran to the playground, while Derek and Kylie sat on a bench, watching them play.
"And what happened with Assange and WikiLeaks? Do you remember the pressure all of that caused?" Kylie asked, her gaze fixed on her husband.
"I remember, but that's in the past. The important thing is that we're safe and happy now. We don't have to worry about that anymore," Derek replied.
"You know I'll always be there for you, no matter what," Kylie assured him, holding his hand.
"I know, and I'm forever grateful for that," Derek said, looking into her eyes.
The kids decided it was time for a contest to see who could slide down the slide the fastest. "I'll win!" Stormi challenged, as Aire prepared to follow her.
"You're the champions!" Derek shouted, raising his arms like a true cheerleader. Kylie laughed and stood up. "Come on, who's going to win? The grand champion Stormi or little Aire?"
The children began to slide down, and their laughter echoed throughout the park. Derek couldn't help but think about how those simple moments were the ones that mattered the most. There were no pressures from the outside world, just the pure joy of childhood.
Later, as the sun set, the family decided to head home. "Today was amazing, Daddy! Can we do it again tomorrow?" Stormi asked, still excited.
"Sure! Whenever you want. Life is made of these moments," Derek replied proudly.
Kylie looked at Derek lovingly. "Do you remember how it all started? When you fought to protect our family?"
"Yes, but we're in a much better place now. The past has shaped us, but it's the present that really matters. And our future will be bright," Derek replied, as he looked toward the horizon.
That evening, while the children were in bed, Derek and Kylie sat on the couch, enjoying a quiet moment. "Look at all we've accomplished," Kylie said, looking around the home they had built together.
"I could never have done this without you. You're the reason I fought so hard. Our family is my greatest gift," Derek replied.
Kylie leaned closer and placed a soft kiss on his lips. "And we will always be together, no matter what."
In that moment, Derek felt that, no matter the challenges they had faced, he had found his true strength in the love and unity of his family. The past had taught him valuable lessons, but the future promised to be filled with joy and unforgettable moments.
With a warm heart, Derek leaned back on the couch and looked out the window, where the stars shone brightly. He knew that he had found his place in the world and that every day with Kylie and the children was a blessing. And so, they continued to build their story, one day at a time, leaving behind the shadows of the past and embracing the light of the present.
