Chapter Ninety-Five
The woman shook her head and walked into the kitchen, leaving the two boys to ponder on the conversation. It had not ended the way they thought it would. How did they even think it was going to end?
Ahmet's mother had never liked the life of a Mafia. Yet she married one. Though she didn't fight or kill, she was surrounded by loved ones who did that.
"Is she aware Asli is the same Lisa she loves so much?" Markus asked his tone in a hushed message.
Ahmet stared at the ground for a long moment before speaking. Silently weighing what his response should be.
"I doubt that. Let it be, man. Asli and I would not be anything more than what we are." When he finally did, his voice barely rose above a whisper, each word dropping like a stone. He didn't look up, just twisted the edge of his sleeve between his fingers, as if holding himself together.
"You sound sad." Markus was not teasing. He was genuinely worried for him. Or maybe curious.
