Chapter 23 - Fireworks

DY GRIMONY'S POV

It was already evening. We got on the last trip with Ish. While we were traveling, a man suddenly shouted.

"DON'T PANIC!"

He took off his shirt and threw it out the window. We all gasped. There are bomb implanted in his body! He laughed as his right hand started to morph into a weapon.

"Don't make any move with ill-intent if you don't want us all to die here! Oh, wait—well, WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE ANYWAY!"

We, ALVAACAD students, looked at each other. We were sitting at the back of the bus, trying to figure out how to survive. Some of the passengers were crying. Even worse, there were little kids on board too.

First problem: There's a villain.

Second problem: He has bombs in his body.

Third problem: He has a dangerous exskill!

"The brakes aren't working!" the driver screamed.

Uh… okay…?

Fourth problem: The brakes are busted.

The villain pressed a rainbow-colored button on the bomb, and a timer started.

"Time for a spark!"

I looked at Ish. When he noticed the villain was too busy laughing, he summoned black smoke from his palm. Before it could ignite into flames, I stopped him. I immediately grabbed his wrist even though it was hot.

"What are yo—"

"Planning to fight him? Have you gone insane?"

Ish rolled his eyes. "What do you want me to do? Just sit here and wait to die?"

His hand was trembling, just like mine. The black smoke slowly faded, but I still got burned a little—still, I tightened my grip on his wrist.

"Oh, by the way… if you do anything to me, the timer speeds up—meaning we'll all die even faster!" the villain announced, laughing. "Hope you enjoyed your dinner earlier." Then his attention suddenly shifted to us. "Wait? ALVAACAD students? Is this a curse or luck?" He raised an eyebrow and grinned.

Even though I wanted to use my exskill, it was better not to. If I fought back, we might die even sooner.

We panicked when he pointed his weapon-tech at us. I closed my eyes in fear, but they shot open again when something suddenly hit the bus. The passengers screamed as the bus nearly tipped over—but thankfully, it stopped.

"What happened?!"

"What was that?"

"Did you guys saw something?!"

"Did we hit something?!"

The passengers whispered among themselves.

The villain frowned, he stumbled to stand up. He resently removed a used but carefully rolled diaper on his face—that got accidentally tossed to him when the bus dance earlier. He snapped his eyes at everyone as he stride close to the window to looked outside.

"What happened? Did the street lights go out? Even the lights in the bus are affected?" Sol asked, puzzled. I looked at him—he was glowing just like me.

Because of the small light from me and my twin brother, we saw a terrifying creature.

Our mouths hung open at what we saw—while the villain stood frozen. It was as if everyone stopped breathing. The entire area was blanketed in silence. In front of the villain was a shadowy creature with glowing red eyes and sharp teeth.

We watched in horror as the monster devoured the villain like he was just a little munchkin.

Passengers screamed in terror afterwards. The monster rampaged inside the bus, ramming into a passenger before leaving.

Everything happened so fast! I couldn't believe this was happening to us.

Should we be happy we're safe, or sad that someone died?

You idiot, Dy?! The villain was trying to kill us—he deserved what happened!

After a few minutes, the people calmed down. We slowly exited the bus. As we stepped off, I noticed the passenger who got hit by the shadow monster was unconscious.

"What happened to that passenger?" Maye asked, worried.

Azure looked at the unconscious man, "Probably, that shadow creature did something to him."

"Why would it hurt a fellow villain?" Seth asked curiously while trying to calm down an old lady.

"That thing really is a villain, right? Why'd it eat the other villain?" Sol asked confused and a bit shaky.

One of the passengers called for help. After awhile, the rescue team and police arrived. We just watched from the side as the police asked some passengers about what happened while they helped the unconscious one.

I couldn't shake the feeling of unease. My eyes wandered until they landed on a dark area of the road—where I could see red eyes staring back at me.

A disturbing, cold sensation crawled down my spine, consuming my trembling soul in the shadows of fear.
