"Just… calm down," I said, taking a few steps back, hands raised in surrender. A poor attempt, really.
Because the madness in her eyes made it clear—this wasn't going to end well.

The syringe I had been holding hit the ground, rolling to a stop near my feet.

So much for my grand plan. I had tried to outsmart her. Maybe even poison her. But, as luck would have it, that plan just backfired.
