He found himself freefalling, even though he didn't know where, how, or what this place was, as everything was dark. He began to replay the battle in his mind. It turned out he had underestimated the enemy. If he hadn't let his guard down, he wouldn't be dead now, though he might still have been injured.
But thinking of the strange power Vincent used, he realized one thing: he was helpless before it. This made him realize that continuing to battle Vincent would have only led to his death.
And also, for the first time, he tasted defeat. But his defeat turned into death, claiming his life.
